Just replaced my valvetronic motor seal and cleaned up my engine oil cap. Together they were causing quite a bit of leakage down to the exhaust manifold and stinking up my AC. So far so good but I am a bit concerned as the old Vmotor gasket looked pretty fresh and new even. Will be doing the VCG later just to be sure.

My old valvetronic gasket looked brand new but didn't seal at all either. New one fixed the issue 👍🏽

1.25 liter low is my guess. I’ve done this with my 07 n52 b30 and if you suck all the oil out of the oil filter housing and let it drain for a long long time mine was roughly 1.25 liters low . Mine also uses oil between changes . It does not smoke and performs well it just uses 1 liter every 2,000-2500 miles which is way to much in my opinion but after years and years of use I’m pretty much use to it . The engine is great otherwise . Well it does have an oil pan gasket leak. So I loose a tiny bit there also. I just been avoiding that job lol . Ty for the bmw content

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  Před 2 lety

1L per 2500 miles is pretty good even with some leaks. But the n52b30 shouldnt burn oil so you're good🙏🏼

Hi , my light just come on e92 335D , normally i drive a bit quick , soon a saw the light i stopped the car and top up with one liter of 5w30 . I’m a bit concerned because wen i check the level on the stick it was below the minimum , it’s that a chance that my engine was running on insufficient oil and probably damage something?

    • @buildanddrive

It's possible if you drive extended periods of time or got the engine really hot, then yes. Otherwise it should be fine

N52s are high revving but not particularly high at 7k rpm? I thought was common for a 2.5l engine. Max power at 6500 rpm so anything after that probably lowers a 0 - 60 time ?
I think BMW designed a larger crankcase so they can increase intervals between services, secondly it is possibly a failsafe measure due to these engines consuming oil.

I have a general question. I have 320d e90. My oil light kept showing, so I had my oil and filter changed as well as putting a new sensor on. Now I don't even see the oil level indicator as option on the bc list anymore?

    Hey man -
    Good oil test there .
    I have a 14yr old 320i petrol coupe auto .
And I’ve been suspicious of the oil level sensor for some time .
    Q. When dose the light come on !? I mean how low does the level have to go before it alerts you to top up ? Looks like for your motor . A litre or more .
I had a feeling that mine was not running as smoothly as it normally would . More valve noise when cold .
I took a chance and added 3 quarters of a litre and it’s back on top form !!!! I mean it made a significant difference .
Pretty serious design flaw . It’s a shame as I really like the car and BMWs in general .
I’m going on a long trip soon . I’ll be driving for over 9 hrs .
Any advice on preparations for this ?
    Also ---
Is there a High level sensor in the sump ???
Or will it just say OK 👍 even if the oil is bursting out of the engine
    Regards 🙏🏻

I hate the god damn digital oil reading gauge. It cost me a new valve cover. Apparently, I kept adding oil after they installed a new oil level sensor. It came on first thing when I started the car. And of course..what does the wife do....she adds oil and so did I. Causing it to overflow and blow the oil diaphragm housing that's built into the valve cover. Now, I won't add oil until I have at least driven the car for 45 minutes (this gives me a true reading) I wish BMW would get rid of that feature and go back to a $10 oil stick. Wish I knew of a way to weld an oil stick to my BMW now.

Is… there could be still 3 quarts (which might be below the MIN). So if you add 5 then u will be over by at a couple quarts! Be careful… I messed up bc I added too much and then the oil pushed thru the seals bc it has nowhere else to go… ultimately leaking into the spark plug/ ignition coils causing misfires and feeling super sluggish…
Nevertheless, just wanna give a heads up in case my experience might help someone out!!!
