In many ways, being an openly gay teenager on network TV still isn't fully embraced. Here's Chris Colfer's experience #shorts #shortsvideo #comingout #podcastclips #interviewclips #lgbt
Chris is just such an amazing person. Not to mention all of his talents! He sings, acts, dances, is an author and so much more! He is such an inspiration
yes. I remember in ~2008 being absolutely FLOORED that an openly gay teen was on TV. And _he was mainstream_ ??? Kids will never understand how HUGE it was to be openly gay literally just 15 years ago. (Particularly outside of New York/SO CAL). It's such a completely different world now.
@@akpokemonI lived in rural Missouri and this meant the world to me. Watching this at home helped me both gauge the safety of me coming out and to open conversations to express things I'm sure helped my parents respond better years later. This was well before gay marriage was legalized. I'm sure you could count the gay characters on TV up until that point on one hand.
Agreed. This video showed just how unique the character truly was. I’m so proud of Chris. He’s an amazing person and performer. I have the utmost respect for him. He deserves nothing but love and respect from others, and nobody can convince me otherwise.
Neither did I. But that’s exactly what makes it so iconic. He basically came out at the same time his character did, which is amazing. I love Chris, and he deserves nothing but respect, acceptance and love.
I love Chris Colfer so much! The scenes between him & his Dad always had me bawling. I wish he had been around when my son was growing up. I didn’t know anyone who had a gay child. He is amazing inside and out and so incredibly talented. I miss seeing him.❤️🥰🌹
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I agree with you 100 percent. Chris is simply amazing, and he deserves nothing but love and respect from everyone.
Chris Colfer is a great actor and man. He is a perfect example of how you should never be afraid or ashamed of who you are. Chris deserves to be confident and accepted by everyone. I probably will never meet him, but if I do, I’ll be honored because I just love how brave, kind and confident he is as a man, and his character Kurt is on Glee.
Extremely shady they'd write this role for him presumably just because he comes off gay, and put him in a position where he essentially had to take it. He did amazingly with it, and was brave. But a young man barely even out as gay should not be put into that position.
I agree. It’s like the writers “forced” him out of the closet (even though he had a choice to not take the role) but like he said “I was so ready to get out of there.” I don’t blame him… Fresno sucks.
@@sit-insforsithis1568 Most actors aren't able to make their money acting, you don't turn down a big break like this. That's what I mean by "essentially had to take it".
The Fox network execs actually tried to keep him closeted, he was told he'd be stereo-typed and would never be cast in any other roles if he came out publicly. He decided for himself at the age of 19 that he couldn't play a character like Kurt while essentially hiding his own identity. So he did make the choice to come out of the closet publicly, against the advice he was given by the Big Bosses of the network he was employed by. If that's not courage and tenacity, I don't know what is!
As a closeted bi trans man in a rural , highly conservative area, the way Chris played his character meant the world to me. The way Kurt's Dad responded in the show brought me so much hope. Things like this helped create conversations that I'm sure helped soften my parents feelings by the time I came out. Thank you for being brave, Chris.
Chris represented us when we needed him. He was the reason i hsd the guts to come out as bi and choose a path that embraced who i wanted to be in life. I’ll always respect and admires his massive contribution to the lgbtq community.
Agreed. The show most likely wouldn’t have done as well without the character of Kurt. Chris was a very essential part of the show. It’s one of those times where in production, they do or keep something they didn’t originally plan, but it ultimately made the project even better.
Me who LOVES Chris Colphers voice because I listedend to ALL the land of stories as a kid and read some before I listened to them and his stories made me LOVE reading Ana duos voice his a comforting voice me I turn on land of stories if I can sleep or I’m feeling down 🫶🫶🫶
Looking at these comments I see the influence Chris had on all of ashis role of Kurt. He was brilliant and, as a stranger, I'm proud him. I see his strides and pray for the best.
How did they write the character if he wasn’t out, how did the screenwriters know? I don’t think he told them himself, I mean how could he couldn’t come out to ppl in his life but did to a screenwriter? I doesn’t make sense in my head hahahahaha, lots of love for people out there either you have the courage or you don’t you’re still loved no matter the way you are❤
I was told that glee was a good show. It was streaming on Netflix. I watched an entire season waiting for it to get good. Never did. So… it pretty much sucked. I mean it was really bad. Then you find out all the truth that went on behind the scenes. This show Was just sad and disgusting in every way possible.
The amount of courage it took for Chris to be Kurt Hummel is pretty astounding. I don't take that for granted whatsoever. He's just incredible.
I agree wholeheartedly! I love, Chris, for doing this.
Chris is just such an amazing person. Not to mention all of his talents! He sings, acts, dances, is an author and so much more! He is such an inspiration
He's so admirable.

Kurt hummel is the best written character ever.. and the fact it was written ONLY for Chris is just mindblowing
Come on, get real.

I had no idea he wasn’t publicly out before the show
Him and Kevin are both gay but while Chris was basically forced to be open, Kevin wasn't and it was a little hard for Kev to watch.
Neither did I. But that’s exactly what makes it so iconic. He basically came out at the same time his character did, which is amazing. I love Chris, and he deserves nothing but respect, acceptance and love.
Damn his voice really matured
Ik I kinda miss his kid voice
I remember his glee season 1 voice 😝🤣
@@claraharness796CELLOOOPHANE!
A thing as well is that he did his voice higher as Kurt, even in season 1 his natural voice was already lower
i mean he's older? and it still sounds the same

Keep in mind this was 2008/2009. Terrifying time to do what Chris did. Props
He was so iconic for a whole generation! Thanks for your courage Chris!
Here, Here. Chris deserves nothing but love and respect from everyone. He’s amazing and his character Kurt taught me so much.

Kurt was the heart of the show. From Finn to Rachel to Santana to Blaine, he was there.
Kurt is the reason I watched Glee
His voice hadnt changed at all lol
i cant count the amount of times ive cried over kurt hummel
I can’t imagine this show without him. And how did they not think of a character likeKurt from the beginning??
Agreed. The show most likely wouldn’t have done as well without the character of Kurt. Chris was a very essential part of the show. It’s one of those times where in production, they do or keep something they didn’t originally plan, but it ultimately made the project even better.
right?? imagine if they hadnt added him in. Rachel would have become far more insufferable
I honestly can't imagine the show without Kurt
And the impact he had on so many people across the world
I love u Chris

Crazy I grew up 45 minutes from Fresno (Tulare ca) lmao back then I always thought that was a big city.
Did he think his classmates were all like Mercedes? 🤣
No. He knows better than you. He is talking about "forcing " him out of closet for a network role
everyone working on this show was suffering
hes from fresno 😭 im from fresno
He's technically from Clovis, so suburban Fresno.
@@elizabethsommerer2164 still in the fresno county

My cat knew he was gay. It wasn't coming out as much as opening his own eyes.
Wow i didnt know this back story about him...interesting 😅

Please read his" the land of stories books" they are meant to be for younger readers but if you love fantasy and dark fairy tales they are amazing xx
First, the rant Santana gave Kurt and now this? If you didn't had the context, it seemed everything was fine. But it was not.
Hey Chis Colfer babe
Did he just call living in Fresno a “small town” I mean it’s not big but it’s definitely not a small town 😆😆
He's actually from Clovis.
This is absolutely not the point but i was so confused for like a solid minute about why George santos was interviewing the kid from glee ……😅
What a shock he was gay !!!
That’s amazing, I really don’t think I would’ve had the courage to do what he did even after a year of being put to my friends and family
How did they write the character if he wasn’t out, how did the screenwriters know? I don’t think he told them himself, I mean how could he couldn’t come out to ppl in his life but did to a screenwriter? Everyone already knew haha
The fact that he kissed someone who was straight
Darren Crisis is lucky! happy for him and his Wife ( Blaine is straight) outside of glee, for anyone else doesn’t know .
Come on everyone knew
what the fuck is that
