  • A follow up video to my previous Zotac EN1070 videos showing off performance of games in 2018.
Does it hold up at UHD resolutions?
NOTE: Original upload was remove and this has been reuploaded with a slight cut around the 36 minute mark as Nintendo took copyright against the original for some footage of CEMU.

Great Video Paul. I have an EN1060 with an i7-6700T, 32GB and 3TB of SSD. I've had no problems with its thermals while leaving CPU turbo on.
I suspect the different comes down to the GTX 1070 having 60% more shaders than the GTX 1060 (2048 vs 1280) and 2GB more VRAM, ( the GPU die is over 50% bigger ). My suspicion is that the GTX 1070's increased power draw and heat dissipation vs the 1060 version it why your case mods and turning off of CPU Turbo make such a big different to keep it cool and from throttling - the GTX 1070 leave very little thermal headroom with the stock cooling setup.
Thanks to your original video and blog link, I invested in more Magnus EN1060s for our multiplayer videogame development work (and one HTPC). I was able to put Kaby Lake i7-7700T CPUs in the later units and they slightly out-perform the i7-6700T version. I got some of them when the i3-6100T version (with 8GB RAM!) was on sale for US $499 and $549 at Newegg, making it a very good value.

Nice! I will replace the i5 from the EN1060 to a i7 6700T In a few dass, hope you are right with your theory. Still Happy with yours?

@@moorgogel Very Happy. We've now got 4 i7-7700T upgraded EN1060s used for LAN playtesting and demos. When it's time to take them somewhere, it's easier than hauling around a single tower case.

My EN1070 is the same @ 32gb mem w/ an i7 6700t except it's got two ssds as I like the reduced loading times - seeing similar performance as well. Great little system!

Hi Paul, it's hard getting hold of a 6700t. Would it be feasible to put in a 6700 or a k and seriously underclock/undervolt to match the specs of the 6700t?

Nice mod ! I have a SN970 and I will probably do the same because i'm unable to play games anymore. The computer shuts down after 5 min of gaming in 1080p... It's strange because the heating don't excess 55°C and after that the pc shuts down. I will replace the thermal paste as well. Thank you for showing me how to do that.

Have you seen the Zotac EN72070V or EN72080V? Looks like the EN1070 but with loads more venting for heat management. Maybe they watched your video haha xD

Awesome videos on the EN1070 btw! I've had an EN1070K with the i5-7500T and turning off boost has been really helpful thank you! I've had it for a few years now though, thinking of opening it up to clean out dust haha - maybe also do a thermal paste replacement with some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut!

    Hey paul
I have the exact same pc, i use it as my main but the i5 6400t really lacks in proformance. I get 100%cpu usage and it's a bottleneck and editing too is tedious, it takes 2 hours to export 27 minute video.
So i was thinking about getting a i7 7700 but can it go into the pc, maybe a bit of under clocking?

Z select 2 Hi there. The best you would be able to go for is the 35w 7700T which would offer some performance improvement over the default 6400T. If you tried to go for a standard 65w 7700 the cooler wouldn’t be able to handle the heat. Unfortunately the bios Zotac provided is very basic so there is no real opportunity to under clock. Even with my 6700T I had to disable turbo mode as it was causing to much heat when clocking over 3Ghz. As it stands the 2.8Ghz 4 cores 8 threads solution works better than the standard 2.2Ghz four core of the 6400T.

@@diddler1979 do i need the latest bios from zotac?

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 4 lety +2

Z select 2 Yes, for the 7700T Kaby Lake chip you have to update the bios before doing the CPU swap, otherwise the system won’t recognise it.
