    Very good video man. This is exactly the type of video I was looking for. I just recently purchased the EN1070. After seeing this, it seems that my purchase is going to pay off. Can't wait to fire it up and try it out.

    Another positive in making it slightly higher is the potential for 150mm hard drives. Would love a 4tb drive in this little guy.

      Only compromise with that one is that it is significantly bigger than this one. No power brick with DAN A4, still very small, and CPU+video card upgrade with this system be enormous compared to this little machine.

      That will also cook the components inside and the case itself costs almost 300$. That build is another price class

    I wish they would sell the box standalone from the cpu, that way you could just plug and play the Skull Canyon/Nuc and upgrade the nuc over time. Especially handy for the upcoming watercooled EN1080.

  • @rambow70
    @rambow70 Před 7 lety

    Wish they made it slightly larger for better cooling. Like an inch or two more to increase fan size to keep db down and better airflow along a larger heat-sink. Then you could justify price a little better since the GPU wouldn't be so under-clocked.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety

      I think they try to stike the balance with making the most powerful compact system in the GTX 1070 and the bigger brother with the built in watercooling in the EN1080 but I agree that some more airflow over the storage options would be welcome.

      Jeff Clark I thought the same when I put it together but it seems to be designed that way specifically.

  • @tboz6423
    @tboz6423 Před 7 lety

    Warranty aside one could theoretically put the i7 6700t cpu as found in the alpha r2 in place of the i5 6400t cpu that comes with the unit as they are both socket cpu's.
    They have the same tdp but the i7 version has a much higher clock speed, hyper threading and more cache on the die but it will probably throttle a fair bit after watching this vid as airflow and cooling will be a big issue.
    In saying that it seems like this model currently packs the most punch out of the mini pc's out there for it's size and it has a decent array of i/o ports although audio ports on the rear would've been a nice addition to connect to one's speakers for a cleaner look instead of using the front headphone jack.
    All in all a good in depth review and a decent powerful mini pc from zotac

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety

      T BOZ This is true and maybe something I'll consider down the line. I'm not sure if Zotac's UEFI/Bios limits such a change though.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety +1

      cpnhowdy Hi there, I'm very much still using the Zbox but have done a variety of mods to mine. In another video on my channel I show taking it apart and replacing the CPU for an i7 6700T. I have also delidded the CPU and replaced the thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU for a liquid metal thermal solution. Also cut holes into the top of the chassis over the fans and replaced it with som grills so the fans aren't starved of air. It's been an absolute beast of a mini PC in my living room and handles all Oculus VR games for me too.

  • @CknSalad
    @CknSalad Před 7 lety

    They should make this device 1L bigger in volume so it can have better cooling and fit in an i7 6700-TE cpu. The storage drive temperatures a little concerning and I am surprised that it runs on a 180w adapter.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety

      Agreed about the cooling alright. From playtests I never saw the power draw go higher than 135w so impressed with the performance per watt ratio.

    Hey, very nice review and great mini pc.
    I also want to triple boot my Intel NUC7I5BNH into LibreELEC, SteamOS and Windows 10 Pro x64 so I would like to ask you in which order you installed the OS, which programm you used to partition the ssd and if you configured GRUB somehow. I would appreciate any tips regarding the setup. Thanks.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety

      Hi Lukas. Grab yourself a USB boot version of Hirens BootCD and boot the Linux environment from its boot menu. This will give you Gparted which is IMHO the best partitioning tool out there. I preconfigured the partitions so that there was a primary and an extended partition. Install Windows first in the extended partition and it will automatically partition off a Windows Reserved partition as the primay boot for the MBR table. Aftwards I installed the SteamOS and let it preconfigure GRUB so that when booting. LibreELEC is simply a matter of putting the System and Kernel files into the root of a partition and telling grub to use that as the LibreELEC system partition and another partition of say 10GB for its data. Here is a pic of my Gparted configurations when using dual or triple boot systems imgur.com/a/Jfzra. Here is my Grub.cfg for Triple pastebin.com/m72yBeF3 and Dual pastebin.com/DhsUCU67 boot configurations. Hope that helps.

  • @zeus1117
    @zeus1117 Před 7 lety

    Great! Since im at 1080p ultra, i went for the 1060 edition. I expect a bit lower temps as well. Hope the SSDs won't get cooked ! The max temp for them are around 60 no? They shouldn't be operated on higher temps.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety +1

      zeus1117 In theory yes. So far I've not noticed any performance issues but time will tell if it dramatically hurts longevity. Hope you enjoy the EN1060.

    • @zeus1117
      @zeus1117 Před 7 lety +1

      So even the 1060 version gets kind of hot. :( SSDs get warm too, and since i also have a 950 PRO, it idles around 70 C under load :/ That's bad in my opinion. Also regular 2.5" SSD is reaching almost 60 C, other than that it is perfect. But I don't like the fast that it starts to cook the drives inside...
      EDIT: So after 30 minutes Doom the 2.5" SSD got 60 C and the 950 PRO M.2 was at constant 76 C. NOT GOOD !
      There is just simply no moving air in the bottom compartment. Would hate to return this good product just for the sake of my SSDs :(

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety

      Wow that is incredibly hot. My Sandisk SSD boot disk seems to hover around 55->60 degrees C and the 2TB drive around 45->50 during normal use.

    • @zeus1117
      @zeus1117 Před 7 lety

      Paul LastLevelTech Well the 950 pro operating tempretaure is higher than of a normal SSD, but still it needs air or some cooling otherwise it can boil. Also, 60 C isn't that good for any normal SSD. I sent it back and switched to an Asrock Deskmini 110, that is now maxed out with way stronger hardware. But of course, no GPU :( At least the Temps are excellent (at least 25 C less) when the only cooler (intel stock (!)) is even set to silent mode. That case is an excellent design.

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety +2

      Nice, shame you had to go back but hope the new build works out. I looked up the operating temps of the Sandisk SSD I am using and they rate it as fine up to 70C so going to stick with it for now. I've also swapped out the 6400T for a 6700T as well to see what that would do to the system. Theres a video on my channel about that if you are interested.
