BEST 2023 VEHICLES FOR YOUR DOG

Recently, I was asked for my opinion on the FIVE safest vehicles for traveling with your dog or dogs in 2023. Having test-driven over 700 vehicles, I have my opinion on the safest and smartest ones. There are more than five great vehicles for pets, but here are my top Five and some pet friendly vehicles entering the race.
Fun Fact: According to a Forbes Survey 82% of dog owners sometimes travel with their dogs by car, 33% by plane. Just like looking for the safest cars for your children, you should do the same for your pets.

• Features a flap that covers the top of the bumper, protecting it from damage.
• Air suspension, allowing you to lower the rear of the vehicle for your dog's leg length or age.
• Rear seats fold nearly flat, and cargo area has near-vertical sides.

Toyota Corolla Cross - Apartment Dwellers Check this out!
• The newest model to make my list is the Toyota Corolla Cross
• hybrid variant starting in 2023 It’s young and vibrant I see with a young couple owning one or two dogs.
• 63 accessories available to order straight from the manufacturer
• 23 are explicitly designed for dogs. There’s a ramp to help your dog enter and exit the vehicle
• a tool to help clean up pet hair, interior door guards, and even a 50-piece dog first aid kit.

Tesla Model Y - Tech-savvy dog owners who want a versatile electric vehicle
• A spacious area for dogs, standard leatherette seats that are relatively easy to clean
• Rear vents are designed to keep occupants comfortable.
• Don’t do White Upholstery - Obvious reasons
• Model Y’s Dog Mode. This technology uses the vehicle’s climate control system to maintain a preset interior temperature even after the driver has turned off the engine and exited, an important safety feature if you expect that your dog will sometimes have to wait in the car. A message on the infotainment screen alerts passersby that the owner will be back soon and shows the temperature setting. Users can monitor the system with an app, which also alerts them if there’s a malfunction that requires a quick return to the vehicle.

DOGS TO DEALERSHIPS
As much as it would be nice to take your dogs with you to a dealership to shop for the right fit, very rarely will that be allowed. Know the dimensions of your crates prior and check for tethering hooks if needed.
HUMAN COMMITMENT
I also warn folks about human distractions - Many an accident is caused by the driver interacting with their pet and taking their eyes off the road. Your dog needs to be safely secured so instead of "don't text and drive," I tell my dog lovers two hands on the wheel… Don't PET and Drive.

My Yellow Lab "DOC" passed away at age 17. There are so many accessories on the market to make your dog safe and loved. Please investigate them. Dogs need to be in their own “seat belts” and “crates” and not free standing in the back of a truck. Go online to find what is best for your pooch.
