- Let's discover Basic Colour Theory, (which is anything but basic) and how you can use it to compose and photograph food. ‘Basic’ just doesn't do these colour pairings justice. Trust me, these theories can be sexy AF! We will look at:
1️⃣ Analogous
2️⃣ Complementary
3️⃣ Monochromatic
With lots of photographic examples of how I use these in my work.

Hi Rachel! You have put it so simply and clearly! I think I understand it better now! Looking forward to watching and learning from the next videos too!
Wonderful! I am so pleased to hear that! The examples help too right. We have a few more videos in the series to really hit home a few helpful ideas. Can't wait to see what you will create.
Love the tip about pairing baked goods with blues!
Yes! It's such an easy way to tackle colour theory with all those baked treats. Love simple strategies. Thanks for watching.
Loved this. Looking forward to the next video in the series 😍
Coming soon! Thank you so much for watching. Out of the three techniques we discussed, what is the one you're most excited about?
Excited for the learning. Thank you for doing this Rachel! Last week I discovered orange and purple looking beyond gorgeous together. Glad it is fall now so I can use it more often 😂 in my styling
Wonderful! I am in love with that colour pairing too (as you know we chatted on Instagram). We'll cover that more in the Advanced Colour Theory video. Excited to see what you will create.
Interesting and helpful as always, Rachel! Looking forward to seeing the other videos in this color series 🙌🏻
Thanks for watching Sonia! What was the best insight you had from this video on Basic Colour Theory?
I've realized I have so much to learn about the use of color and I'm especially intrigued by monochromatic! I already have a couple ideas 😁
Ohh that's great! I can't wait for you to learn more with the colour tips lessons too :)
What a great lesson. You are the best food photography teacher Rachel. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos and learn from you. Cheers!
Aww thank you Ice!! That truly means so much to me. Thank you for watching. Sending you big hugs.
❤❤thank you
I'm working on a cake that will be using analogous colors. It's caramel colored with buttercream colors in brick red, orange, and mustard yellow. Thanks for the video! I wasn't entirely sure which colors to go with, but this really helped me narrow it down to those three.
WOW! I love those colour pairings. So glad that you're feeling more confident with the colour choices. I can't wait to see the shot.
Thanks!
Thank you for this lesson! it is super clear and very useful! have a good day!
I am so glad you enjoyed it! Curious to know which of these three colour theories are you most inspired by?
Great lesson! It is easy to learn and very helpful. Really want to practice.
Yay! Thank you so much for watching. I can't wait to see which theory you will pick for your next photoshoot.
Always love your photography tips! If using orange and green...what color theory would that fall into? I plan on using that with soup tomorrow.
I love that colour pairing! If we take a look at the colour wheel, you'll see that green and orange are separated by yellow. So it would be Diad colours. We will cover this in the next video Advanced Colour Theory. You can check it out here: czcams.com/video/Kwh3NLnoDqc/video.html
@@Twolovesstudio I just watched the second video and loved all the new color theories! Thank you! Btw, Diad is my favorite!
🎉🎉🎉🎉 Thank you
You are so welcome! Would love to know which colour theories you're loving right now.
Thank you Rachel for this! Can come back again & again when get confused! @myvegfare
I am so glad you enjoyed it!
how bout white? i know white is not easy to work with when it comes to food photography, but i would like to try that, im thinking monochromatic but the drinks really makes me think on how to put it.
Different white textures would be amazing!
I do love working with a soft white colour palette for sure! I've black and white series over the years as part of a series to 'seek texture'. When it comes to working with white, lighting and contrast are things you really need to focus on. If you want to see some of the shots I did (for inspiration) you can check out my B+W portfolio: rachelkorinek.com/black-white-food.
Let me know if this is helpful! X
I love working with textured whites! Great idea to think about how to compositionally tackle white.
@@Twolovesstudio omg thank you so much! Thats really helped! Now i have an idea how to work it out with white colors.. Thanks again😘❤️
Yay!! I am so pleased. Thanks for chatting and can't wait to see what you create.
