Just here to say Joanie's Artificial Light Academy is a total game changer. I used to be terrified of artificial light, but Joanie's class makes it easy and fun to learn. Such a confidence builder. I now know I can go into any lighting situation and get a great shot. If you're on the fence about this class, do it. Best investment ever.
You're too kind Jackelin!! Hugs to you!!
There are only a few good food photo channels I can find on You Tube. Yours is definitely the best, and you are a great motivator / speaker!
Wow, thank you!
I’m late had to get that walk in but I here and yet again you have set my mind to moving. Thank you for always being on time. You are a great person and super wonderful teacher. You take care
So helpful, thank you!!!!
Very useful! Thanks!
Thank you!
Amazing updates.
Thank you Joanie, this was extremely helpful!
You´re AWESOME! This info es PURE GOLD!
Glad it was helpful!
That’s a great visualisation of concept with the cube.
Great video as always! I always shoot with a window and a bounce card. That being said winter is coming and I just bought my first flash and I'm so excited to use it!
Awesome!! Have fun with the flash!!!
How do you do it?! How do you always manage to come out with a video just at the right time. I literally JUST got the feedback from a client that an image was muddy. I wasn't even 100% sure what that meant or how to fix it. I used a two light setup for that shot... so this is making a whole lotta sense. Thank you for everything you do!
Yay!! so glad!!!
Yes, I did a two light setup and saw later there were two sets of shadows!!! They needed to come from the same side. 😅
This video has teached me more than 3 years traveling with my camera, thanks a lot
As always, very informative video Joanie in just the right length!! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Love your explanations, very helpful as always!
Glad to hear it!
you are absoluetly great❤. Thank you soooo much😊
Going to try this tomorrow! Great vid! Thanks Joanie
Awesome! Hope it goes well!!
I missed your videos, it is so nice to watch you again.
So glad!!
Yep, its true. Joanie makes it so easy to follow that I often feel like I must be somehow missing the hard part. :-D
Awesome!! Always learn something from your videos.
So happy to hear!!
Nice interesting, this is more applicable to led constant lighting.Always wondered why my led shots look flat , so good idea to try cut out as much ambient
Awesome video with clear explanations 👍
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you for another great video! 💕
You are so welcome!
I took Joanie’s classes 4 years ago and my work improve 100% as a photographer. Like many others, I used to dislike flashes but now I can’t live without because it helps me to work anytime and I don’t have to be worry about natural light, because I can create it. If you wanna learn to use artificial light this class is a must! Joanie is the best teacher.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you fell in love with flash like I did!
Excellent explanation. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I remembered last minute that my good friend Joanie had a discount code for PPA! TY :)
Fascinating, and this is just the basics. I'm excited to learn more inside of the Academy. Have been procrastinating long enough to learn artificial light, but with busy life I know I'm limiting myself not using artificial light. Thank you Joanie for another great video!
So excited for you to get into artificial light!!! Such a game changer :)
i love your videos, it helped me a lot. since i work in an ad agency and do some photography, whenever the client needs one..
Great to hear!
Hello! Great video! Was wondering if you could do a guide on food photography using phone?
Light wizard!!!
Ha ha!! Very generous of you to say!
@@TheBiteShot I swear! Since I took your class a long time ago I look at light differently and usually my mental "What Would Joanie Do Bracelet" screams out "KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!" and I let my brain look for subtractions it can make. It is an invaluable tool to me that I will carry forever. Wizard is fitting but I could live with light surgeon if you prefer lol.
I believe that for all photography except most landscape photography,= excluding night light painting, flash is what would excel your photography quality the most when done correctly. Now with that said, high quality flash equipment (like the one used during your pouring coffee/cream photos taken with quick recycle times. Profoto?) can cost just as much or more than a new camera & lens. Great examples. Looks like a great class.
Thanks! I'm actually using a Godox AD600 Pro. Definitely not inexpensive, but not as spendy as Profoto and I've been happy with it
Great Video !!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@TheBiteShot I have been following you for years and you're the reason I became a food Photographer and a CZcamsr Thank you for all you have done!!
you should see my photos before I started following you and the photos now
!!
Does the Artificial Light Academy teach you how to use/operate a flash, and it's functionalities, a well as settings?
Hi,
great videos. Just love it.
How about white balance? When shooting with flash or strobes, do you use auto white balance or do you make your camera match the kelvin of the flash in use?
Great question! I match the Kelvin of the light. AWB is basing on the ambient light which could be irrelevant if I’m cancelling it out. AWB also shifts constantly so editing is easier when the WB is consistent
@@TheBiteShot Thanks. A few months ago I made a portrait session with light controlled, but I was struggling on post with so many different temperatures along the session. And I believe here will be the same, so matching the Kelvin to our light was the best option I saw.
Thank you so much for replying.
Would you want to take a photo with a soft box that fixed overhead to capture light cross the entire food item as opposed to just from a side?
nice
Thanks so much!
Depending on the subject, the hard light can make photos sharper as well ? Especially those fine textures ?
For sure! Can really accentuate texture!!
Whats the point with the second camera angle? It doesn’t provide any meaningful insight or information exept that you can afford two cameras :) I see it a lot and its just distracting when it is unmotivated by any means.
Are you OK, Joan? It's the second video in a row about sharpness. Sounds like you had an aging lady walking up to you in a restaurant while you were working on your composition and standing behind your shoulder while making remarks on how you should handle your camera.
lol! not sure what that means. But yep, over here aging gracefully!
@@TheBiteShot You surely familiar with the saying "you're preaching to the choir". I hope you don't get too many people like that approaching you while you're on location. But if you laugh out loud it means you're not taking it too seriously. Don't.
you guys know much this is worth to learn? $$¡¡??
you are not canceling ambient light but rather over powering it.
