Thank you! It’s a very nice space to work in. Yeah artificial lights are my favorite, but I would say for 98% of food and beverage you can do it with either strobes or continuous lights equally as well. It’s just the other 2% that strobes win out. It’s all about your budget, and if you plan on shooting video

Great video. The constant light looks more natural to me. I have all three, but lately I've just been using constant light. It's much more convenient and mine take the ubiquitous L mount batteries (in addition to AC power), which adds further to the convenience.

Excellent breakdown. I come from a video background and have a lot of constant lighting but now interested in picking up a strobe to test. What's your favorite color temperature (in kelvin) for food photography. Personally I like a little warmth (just below neutral) to the shot but see a lot of photographers shooting more Day White. I'm guessing this is more standard. I'm interested to hear your opinion.

Super useful this video. I recently started shooting Product/Food Photography for local businesses in my town (small town and no previous food photo experience) at their request. I usually shoot Cars, Portraits and Events however, I tested both my Godox SL60W which is lovely, but my AD300's with the modelling lights and 85mm softboxes were just perfect.

Having shot hundreds of restaurants menus, I found early on that using flash or strobes inside a working, open for business restaurant, is just to disruptive and intrusive to paying customers attempting to enjoy a meal. So because of that I use leds inside a restaurant, if it's before or after hours with no customers I usually use a strobe.

Id definitely agree with your comments about needing hybrid coverage, that's now my experience today. Id go for a powerful small battery powered led if possible. Usually tho I'll find a window and I use a reflector.

Well, videographers & film guys have to use constant light sources, still photogs have an option, constant or strobe. Both groups produce good work. Of course, as you said, strobes freeze action--pouring beer, etc. And of course, color temp and spectral distribution should not be overlooked--clients hate it when their product has even a hint of the wrong color. Groups of strobes have been used successfully together as a single source for decades. Constant light, however, should not be overlooked. Back in the 1960s at Elmer Moss' studio, the story goes, a shot of a great number of ice cream scoops in one shot was done with hot lights and with a view camera--possibly an 8x10. He did the shot successfully; so it can be done.
