Honestly it’s a slap in the face to a lot of Amex and Delta users, especially the fact that AA and UA card holders the clubs (though less popular and less crowded) is still unlimited.
It's because Delta let Platinum members into their clubs. AA and UA don't do that for people that hold a non-cobranded card. Technically I guess United does for people who have the JP Morgan Reserve, but that is a tiny handful compared to the number of people who have some version of the Platinum.
AA and basic United clubs are not busy= cookies + coffe or soda. // Delta Clubs busy = nice meals and drinks
@@Compusal Sky club meals are mediocre at best.
not true at all. United Polaris lounges offer wide variety of food and drinks, showers, etc. United really came a long way. I use them for business travel and constantly impressed.@@Compusal
I am canceling my delta sky platinum after today!! Delta screwed many loyal followers!!!! Great channel Ben!!!
I’d recommend down grading to the sky blue to avoid removing credit line
They’ve destroyed credit card perks
Amex Platinum is reducing the perks on Delta Lounges to only 6x per year but Amex Platinum is not reducing their annual $695 fee to maintain the platinum card.
The Platinum card in Canada just went up to $800 today. Count your blessings.
@@williampinkett3829that’s only $590 US. You’re lucky
@@williampinkett3829if it hits the US market I'm canceling it. Like... 700 was already difficult to justify. The Lounge Access was a KEY reason to get it. But didn't move me. The lounge access plus the 150k SUB got me.
But I have to really work and maneuver to get benefits back out and it still costs me effectively 55 dollars a year.
I'm having a hard time seeing the value if it goes up from here. I checked into a lounge 5 times in a round trip flight to San Francisco. Some of those flights, First Class. In one trip o could have blown my allotment for the year?! Not something I'm willing to pay 700 for. I'll switch card issuers.
True, there is still the option of going to Centurion lounges.
"I don't fly basic economy," the most bougie thing I've ever heard Ben say. 😂
The way delta devaluation the skymiles program, it’s no longer worth chasing status. I might actually consider buying basic for last min flights.
You will have to pay for your kids $50 each but you can use the platinum airline credit to pay for it if you have any extra after baggage fees.
This is really bad for some of us, I fly delta almost exclusively and the platinum access has been fantastic. I’ve never even bothered with a centurion lounge due to how great the sky clubs are.
Terrible change. I used 10+ sky club visits this summer alone. Card is completely worthless now. I exclusively fly Delta and there is no priority pass or centurion lounge in my home airport, only a sky club. Should have increased authorized user pricing or made lounge access exclusive to the main cardholder. Will be dropping it after this year.
Not only this but the MQM requirements have changed too. The Delta Platinum is basically good for a free checked bag 😩
This is a wake up call for me. I question my spending in the past, because I had to put way too much spend to reach platinum status. Those regional upgrade certificates can be a joke if you think you're going to use them in Hawaii, or have to change your flight schedule a couple months out. I could spend $30,000 on the Reserve and keep Silver Status before, but now I'd have to spend $55,000 +/-. Going on the BBP!
you dont travel with a second person? I still think this card is awesome, with the yearly companion pass, still going to keep this card. The thing that hurts more is the amex platinum card limiting the amount of times we can go to the delta lounges...card was a for sure keeper only because of the unlimited access to clubs..so that may change for many
Amex and Delta had better come up with something to replace that benefit otherwise the card is no longer worth the annual fee. Not like I’d fly with Delta now anyway, since they’ve decided they hate middle class passengers.
Amex keeps shitting on their customers. First they charge for guests at the centurion lounge, now this. Meanwhile they keep jacking up the annual fee. Glad I cancelled my platinum.
Any bets that Centurion Lounges will start having visit limitations each year for Platinum Card members in a few years??
Sky clubs are excellent, I would say the SeTac one is on par with several Centurion Lounges. This is a moderate L for me but honestly I only go about a dozen times a year.
I'm more concerned with the new status thresholds. I'd have to spend $60,000 on the Reserve per year just to have silver status, earning only 60,000 Skymiles. I'd rather spend that on my Spark Business, or better yet, BBP. The rollover MQM offer is embarrassingly bad! I would have been 80% on my way to Platinum status next year, and that will convert to 5% towards silver status.
This is probably frustrating for more frequent fliers but it won’t affect my decision to keep the Delta Reserve. It’s still well worth it for the Companion ticket alone.
SkyClubs have been way too full lately, so I’ll be eager to see what changes these make come 2025.
The basic economy limitation is the real kiiler. Should at least wait until 2/25, like for the general limitation
As a Delta Skymilage member with a Delta credit card and a person that's constantly flying; I think one of the reasons they are doing this is because the lounges have become so overcrowded! It became too easy to enter the lounge that those that really deserve it can't even enjoy it... Multiple times I was either denied entry because it was too full or being inside to "relax" was worst than just being outside the lounge.
Got the Delta Gold, and they soon took away lounge access. Just got the Delta Platinum, losing access again. I've only flown Delta my entire life. I'm about to watch a bunch of AA videos.
If you have multiple Amex platinums does each one have 6 sky club visits? I have Schwab platinum and 2 business platinums so I should get 18 visits right?
So your earlier rumor video on the subject indicated that although visits would be limited, there would no longer be a requirement to fly on Delta to gain entry. I was going to ask if this was the case, but as I write this I realize that if you can't get in with a basic economy ticket I'm sure you wouldn't be allowed in with no ticket.
I've loved the sky clubs! You should be able to pay for guests, and if you have additional credit available, the bags and the lounge access should qualify for your platinum annual airline credit.
Now they need to make the AMEX Centurion lounge less busy. They shouldn't allow the co-branded CC's access to the AMEX lounges.
Does the CS and MS variants of the personal Amex card also retain 6 Delta Sky club access?
Non stop flights from JFK to HNL are available, it’s just seasonal and only available during the winter for anyone wanting to go to Hawaii that doesn’t want a layover
Would you be given more visits if you have multiple platinum cards?
You can't bring your kids/guests for free to the skyclub lounge, but you could use your airline credit to pay for their entry.
Ben, I’m sure that you’ve heard but the new DSC in LAX is quite nice. I definitely recommend going there at your layover.
You have to pay for your kids at the SkyClubs but it comes off of your Airline Credit if you have any.
Just wondering if the ANEX Platinum and Drlta Platinum are worth keeping? Thanks for the information
Delta Platinum seemed useless, except for the companion pass. Really the only reason to keep it is that and the luggage. Gold might be the way to go if you don’t use the companion pass.
I think the value of the Platinum Card for me is now coming down to the credits. The $300 Equinox credit offsets almost half of my membership fee. The Uber and Clear credit offset the remainder. I did love unlimited Skyclub access, and was upset enough to cancel when it was announced, but after reevaluating the situation I still think it makes sense to keep the AMEX Platinum.
Thanks for this. Can you make an additional one covering Delta’s new earnings layout also. I don’t believe spending on your card can elevate your status anymore either.
Others are correct on the $50 per guest. I dug into the terms on this change so here's the actual wording:
"Eligible Platinum Card Members may bring either up to two guests, or their immediate family (spouse/domestic partner and children under 21) to the Club at a per-visit rate of $50 per person, per location or to Grab and Go at a per-visit rate of $25 per person, per location"
Can you still enter with Lounge Buddy?
Love this change, the lounges are way over crowded. I spend $75K+ a year anyway on platnium, thank goodness
I also see that effective 1/1/24 Status Boost with each $25k/$30k spend (Plat/Reserve) up to 4 times will no longer be available… it’s being replaced with something else. No more rollover MQD, either. Yikes.
Well @ben Hedges....Its not fun when literally just got the Delta Plat for lounges and now its a worthless paper weight. That was a waste of time and money.
How is it that AMEX Platinum only gets 6 v Delta AMEX Reserve visits gets 10 visits??
I will probably upgrade to the Delta Reserve Business as it will still pay for itself in benefits with the Companion pass and Lounge access. The language is confusing on Guest access for the Reserve in the terms and conditions. It seems to say that a cardholder gets two guest passes upon card issuance and two guest passes per year. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I believe it's $50 per guest without a card over a certain age. I can't remember the age cutoff.
Nope - $50/per guest irrespective of age.
I do not normally fly Delta know do I have any more Delta AMEX cards, only the Amex platinum. I just happen to fly on Delta last month which I normally never do but was able to access the lounge at ATL for free since I was flying on Delta. The lounge had no wait time was really really big, But the food offerings and the bar were honestly terrible. The best thing I got out of the lounge was space to sit pretty much anywhere, bags of my favorite potato chips, and some coffee. I was literally in and out of the lounge in 10 minutes so I personally won’t miss this benefit if removed from the platinum card. For a regular delta flyer with a delta amex, it does suck since having any access to a lounge is a step up for an airport experience. With few exceptions I still try to travel through airports with centurion lounges so I can avoid other carrier lounges or PP.
I just cancelled my platinum card 🤷♂️
You’ll have to pay for people who don’t have Amex plat. My wife has the card but our daughter didn’t at BOS.
Question: Does the AMex Platium card additional card for $195. Have all of the benefits as the main card? For example, entry into the lounges, digital credit, etc.
Not the credits, it has the lounges
any promotion for buying shares in Delta?
From the article I read on CNN it looks like authorize users on the Amex Platinum card will have their own allocation of Sky Club visits.
From article "Dwight James - Delta's Senior Vice President Customer Engagement and Loyalty - confirmed to CNN Underscored that authorized users on these cards will have their own allocation of lounge visits."
Authorized users pay $195 per year, and that's just about the only perk of any value that they get.
I never get to the airport with enough time to hang out at a lounge 😂
What about authorized users?
Question for credit card pros. If i transfer all my Amex points to a travel partner, say Emerates for example and i then cancel my card will those points in emerates or any travel partner go away? I know they will go away if still in amex account
Get a no fee Amex card and your points will remain without having to transfer to a partner .. however if you do what you mentioned you will not lose your points .. they will be the airline
@@LWT633 amex said there is no 0$ fee card that honors MR points. The lowest is the green card.
My wife and I are going to Hawaii as well next week! We are off to Waikiki on 9/23. Which island are you guys off to?
I'm a Delta Diamond and avoid their Atlanta Sky Clubs. Too crowded and not a relaxing experience.
I love these changes. I get 22 lounge passes per year and only fly maybe 3-4 times max. Hopefully my AU can still access the lounge to
The real loser is the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card owner. In 2025, $550 only 10 visit. You pay even more than invited guests $50 per visit. You can still go centurion but only if you book Delta. So Delta still wants to get paid even when Delta won't let you into their lounge
Its good. This is to solve the lounge overcrowding issue.
What if i have multiple Amex Platinum Cards like Vanilla and Morgan Stanley, is every card will get 6 visits per year ? ( i have delta skymiles reserve as well)
Yes, since you are paying multiple annual fees
I usually only fly delta maybe 1 or 2 a year. But this is bogus for Amex plat members that fly delta regularly
I don’t see the big deal because if you’re flying first or business then you still get access to the lounges unless I missed something. If it’s regardless of cabin class, then it’s a problem. Otherwise I’m all for attacking the overflowing crowds. The lounge currently feels like an airport Walmart. I like how Amex is trying to return a prestige feel to the card.
You only get complimentary lounge access with Delta One, which is not available for most US Domestic routes.
I’ve had Platinum since 1990 and this will be my last year. It’s gotten less and less worth it over the years and now it’s just not worth it.
It’s amazing what’s happening… they only want a certain person to hold their cards .
So in 2025, do I still have to fly Delta to get access the lounge with Amex platinum card or just use any of those 6 visit passes without flying delta? Please be advised!
Starting Jan 2024, You cannot enter SC with a Econ ticket even if you have the AMEX platinum, so I doubt you can get in with the card alone and using a different carrier unless it’s a premium seat ticket with a partner airline.
I fly Delta once in a blue moon but what I’m curious to know is what defines “one visit” under this rule. Example: Fly from PBI to ATL then on to LHR. Both PBI and ATL have Delta SkyClubs so will one direction count as one usage or will each physical visit count? If the latter applies that’s a very bad deal.
Physical visits. If you have a flight that includes a layover, depending on what Card you have, you can end up burning 25-50% of your allotment in one round trip if you’re not careful.
Yeah, each airport is separate unfortunately. Here are the terms spelling that out:
"A single Visit does not permit usage of Delta Sky Club(s) in multiple airports across a single trip. For example, if you visit a Delta Sky Club in different airports on a single trip, each entry into a Club will be considered a separate Visit."
And also, if you have a long layover, just be aware of these terms as well:
"A “Visit” is an entry to one or more Delta Sky Clubs or usage of the Delta Sky Club “Grab and Go” feature, in each case at a single airport on the date of departure or arrival of an Eligible Platinum Card Member’s scheduled flight. However, if the Eligible Platinum Card Member departs the Delta Sky Club and then attempts to enter the same or a different Club more than three hours after the first Visit entry time, an additional Visit will be deducted."
Yep just open my mail today and there it is :::(
LAX sky club is great. You’ll like it. Love to hear you’re review l. Happy travels! You have to pay for kids unless they’re under 2
So dumb
$50 per guest (up to 2). This will also trigger the incidental credit with Delta selected
I will fly American's basic economy since my AAdvantage cards will make up for some of the punishment penalties for choosing to fly "basic economy minus". Domestically I'll still get my checked bag for free and Group 5 boarding, and I'll still get miles albeit without multipliers for losing my elite status and I'll have to take a chance on getting assigned a middle seat. Not bad for saving $75 over standard economy on my usual route. If you have a Amex Delta card and are flying basic economy you can still check bag for free on both domestic and international and they allow elevated boarding, but with assigned seating at the gate, and no points earning. For saving $50 - $85 dollars I'll fly in the middle seat and they can keep the points. The Amex Delta perks will not transfer over to their partner airlines such as Aeromexico even though I'm allowed to earn Delta miles on Delta website bookings for flights operated by Aeromexico.
Elite credit cards are done
Ben, you said you have 2 kids. Could you do a video on miles / points resemption strategy for a family with kids ? I fail to find availability for our family for redemption. I can only foresee us using points for hotels.
My strategy is don't expect to fly business class totally on miles, too hard normally to find availability for 4 people together, so often you have to do economy
Thanks for the reply Ben! I tried playing around with ANA and even economy is waitlisted, but that's good to know for others. Would cpp of economy class be similar to hotel cpp value ? @@TheCreditShifu
I feel no remorse. I’m sick of long lines and nowhere to sit in the lounge. There’s more comfort in just grabbing the food to go and sitting in the regular terminal area now. Also - finally makes the reserve more useful than the delta platinum
Sadly you will be paying $50 per guest for the kids, also your wife if she isn’t an authorized user.
Its $50 per guest.
I think platinum loses access entirely in 2024 no?
This is good and this is bad, i use the delta lounge at least 15 times a year, so I will need to see if they take up the AF in 2025
I wish American would make changes to reduce crowding in their lounges. There are way too many people in them.
Is Delta also going to decrease the annual fee? 😂
and so now, I guess it’s gonna be on for the rich and famous okay😡
Great video have fun at Hawaii next week
Thanks Ben for this great segment. Overcrowded Sky Clubs have become a HUGE problem. Not that long ago, the clubs were a place to relax, get some work done if that's your deal, enjoy some pretty good food and drink, etc.
Now they are a nightmare! Another viewer commented below that the clubs have become "Airport Walmarts". Amen to that! Just the other day I waited ten minutes to get in. Then once in? The buffet food was mostly gone or picked over, the bars were so crowded you couldn't get a drink and DRUNK people were sitting at the bar stools. Additionally, there were tons of screaming kids, many people in tank tops and sweat pants, and even a woman walking around barefoot!! Just incredible. Delta had to do *something*. All of this decline is sky clubs has happened in just 2-3 years. These are not frequent fliers crowding the lounges - instead it is anyone that has a 700 credit score that can snag a reserve card and fly basic economy.
I know that this sounds all snobby and entitled - but the experience in the club has to change. It is sad when waiting out in the main terminal and having a $50 lunch and a beer is a BETTER option than hanging out in club before your flight. 😞
Last 2 - 3 years, sounds like it lines up with Amex’s aggressive marketing of the Platinum card with huge welcome bonuses
Very true
GOOD! I'm all for weeding out more people. yayyyy
🥃
Blame the tiktokers!
Hey, did you already took your trip to Hawaii? If not feel free to LMk I can help you with the lounge access and baggage.
PS. One of your video helped me a lot, would love to return the favor. :-)
