FIRST DRIVE: Hennessey Venom F5 - World’s Maddest Hypercar? 1817bhp 300mph+ Bugatti Rival | Top Gear

- čas přidán 1. 05. 2024
- Say hello to John Hennessey's baby: a love letter to excess horsepower, but not in the form of a tuned truck or muscle car. This is the Hennessey Venom F5, an entirely bespoke extreme-engined hypercar capable of speeds in excess of 300mph. Powering it is an engine appropriately named 'Fury', a whopping 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 1817bhp. Weighing only 1360kg, the F5 is only 30kg heavier than a Ferrari F8 Tributo but with 1000bhp more. That equals some impressive performance figures: 0-62mph in 2.6s, 0-124mph in 4.7s, and an insane 0-250mph in 15.5s - that's nearly twice as fast as a Bugatti Chiron... Right, enough comparisons, time to strap Top Gear Magazine's Jack Rix to this rocket to see how it drives.

I think what makes the f5 so cool is how raw it is. Everybody’s focused on the future and technology and hybridization. This is a gigantic middle finger to all of that. This is probably one my fav hyper cars I’d love to drive with a hot rodders spirit. Let’s go. 🔥
Yet, as the video illustrates, it is almost undrivable in day-to-day use. Cars like this are good for two things; flogging on a private track (you don't want a public trackday clown smashing your $2million toy) and being a poseur at a cars&coffee circle jerk.

@@alexturnqest6202 I am an enthusiast, cars and motorcycles, love track days, love quirky cars.
Overpowered cars like the Venom have only one trick, a big engine. It's not really a track car. It makes more power than a RWD setup can use. Wouldn't stand a chance on a road course against a GT3 for a fraction of the price, but that GT3 won't stall in a drive through.
So what is it actually for besides making noise and "bragging rights"? For the same money you could get a Rimac, which is genuinely fast.
@@Miata822 For this money every single new hypercar from Bugatti to Rimac to Hennessey is completely stupid. Get a stick shift, exotic, no-longer-existing and rare at the time car. Having grown up around 20 miles away from Sealy, I’m impressed Top Gear took the time to go out there. Hope the crew enjoyed their visit!
I met John and actually talked to him for a long time and didn't realize it while at TX2k waiting for the storm to blow over back when it was still at his facility Lonestar Motorsports Park. Yeah this is one hypercar design I'm seriously impressed with
it's ugly, design flow and proportions are quite bad, especially compared to the it's counterpart, the SSC Tuatara
A Battista, Concept 2, Nevera, or Evija probably "feels" quicker because of the shorter gearing, instant torque, and superior traction, but this thing is on a different level from those cars when it comes to outright speed, and it will dissapear into the horizon once you pass 200mph. The power to weight, top speed, low coefficient of drag, are all class-leading. I can't wait to see what this thing can do on a sufficiently long straight. Oh, and did I mention that it sounds incredible?
I’m not sure they would feel quicker tbh (and I have noticed that you put feel rather and are). The fact that this has the noise (as he said, almost no sound deadening), the heat, the vibrations and low weight might actually make this car feel faster than any other road car ever made. Build quality is fine. In fact it gets better with each Venom built. These aren’t OEM cars that have billions in tooling and technicians to piece together.
These are bespoke automobiles that are built to spec for each customer who orders one. Are there problems? Certainly.
Pagani, Koenegsegg ran into the same problems. Can you give me specifics on customers that were scammed?

What the most amazing to me about the Hennessy Venom F5 is that it could accelerate from 0-250 mph In just 15.5 seconds! That's how long most cars take to get from 0-150 mph or 0-170 mph!

During that last burn-out I noticed the passenger side door panel /lower side skirt panel flexing a bit. Even with a super stiff carbon tub and panels that is crazy to see it flexing and moving about a bit.
Enough power will do that to a tub. Carbon tubs were ever only really meant for “normal” powered cars and not beasts like this that have the power to flex a chassis. That being said, it’s still very impressive that it holds together under such load
That wasn't the monocoque/carbon tub it was the door panel. So poor door panel fitment, but hey who cares about build quality in a multi-million dollar dragster.

2:09 That POV is wild, he's eating that runway
The sense of acceleration from that cabin camera was a bit let down by the semi-auto slow shifting but 0-150 in any multi-million dollar current or soon to be released hypercar, combustion or electric is going to be blisteringly quick but cars like the Chiron and those designed to approach 300 and beyond like this F5, they'll be pulling away from those EV's, let's not even mention the sound of this thing which puts any Nevera or Lotus or Battista to shame.
ROFLMAO!! Yeah, sure... It pulls away at speeds over 200 mph. And where, even on what race track, are you ever going to care? Oh yeah, I forgot, all those drag races taking place out on the salt flats. And how many gallons to the mile?
It is cool, the angriest engine I ever heard, but don't try to tell me about this fanasy where it even beats a Model S plaid around a race track.
I’m not really a fan, but wow it sounds amazing!
You won't be a fan of this ratio then
John morrison whats your fav super/hypercar?
@@junkyard4999 Aston Martin Valkyrie for sure… Utterly bonkers!
@@TheRobertChannel He clearly wasn't in it
@@johnmorrison8351 i agree with you on that one, especially the spyder!
That is one beautiful car ❤❤❤ Cross between a Ferrari and McLaren but with Bugatti power..love it!!
BEAUTIFUL and BEASTLY!
SSC did 295+mph today (confirmed by Racelogic’s dual VBOX GNSS system) .. and was still climbing. If not for the limited runaway, could've hit 300+mph
Looks like Hennessey's feeling the heat.

is this ssc run confirmed or another fake ?
@@CaydeSmax confirmed by Racelogic’s dual VBOX GNSS system
Noone cares about ssc anymore after theire horrible lying etc. They shot themselfs in the head
Really?!?
Wasn’t there a big thing about Hennessys run because it wasn’t confirmed when they did 270 in the f5
Congratulations to John Hennessey and the entire Team at Hennessey Performance! Well Done, Men!
Well done......well done making another scam to steal money from auto enthusiasts who don't know the history of Hennessey's past criminal scam.
I'm actually hoping and praying that this is Hennessey's 1st car that doesn't scam a bunch of unsuspecting enthusiasts.
13:08 it's funny how he turns around and trys to change gear manually instead of clutching the paddle 🤣🤣
I thought you were going to say "Genuinely, the name of that engine is Pissed Off T-Rex."
