About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Been using this tip for years and love seeing it be used by other people as well. As for something you might not be doing yet, we take a tupperware container and the creamy honey can be whipped with air and then it becomes beautiful spreadable honey for toast. Absolutely nothing on this planet beats warm home made toast with honey.

    Greetings all
I have never thrown honey out when it crystallized! I have stopped some others from doing that. I am going to start taking the honey I get from the store out of the plastic containers and put it in some glass jars.
I am just so glad that you had a nice time with the other homesteaders. I am also so glad that you post your informative videos all the time.
I was talking to an assistant at the vet's office this morning about the Manuka honey and how it took care of Jin's abscess/wound so well. She had never heard of it, so I'm going to take the jar in with me next time I go. Which, I hope will be soon, one of the kitties that shows up around here, Godfrey, came up with a chunk out of his right jaw, and it is hanging there, he has scratches on his head, and something is wrong with the fur on his back. He had come up to me while I was feeding them and I thought he was going to stand still enough to let me really see what was wrong. Marcelle, came up and got in his face and scared him off. I wasn't happy with her. especially since Godfrey is not used to me, and that was as close as he has ever come before.
I walked all around the house, trying to see if I could really see how badly he is hurt, but I couldn't find him. Any positive thoughts or energy sent our way would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Blessings.

It should be criminal to throw honey away! I couldn’t do it- this is the method I’ve used forever and it works fantastically well! Honey doesn’t ever go bad. I appreciate how clean you were being with getting it in the jar-you were ‘holding your mouth’ just right! Honey is a miracle food and I love it! I’m so excited to get my first nucs this year and start my beekeeping journey!

I found a 3 lb jar of crystalized honey in the back of my pantry 2 years ago. It was at least 20 years old and had turned very very dark. I set the jar in a deep pan in the sink and ran warm tap water over it eventually turned liquid. It had a deep molasses like flavor and was fantastic on french roast. I made it last over a year before it was all gone. Sometimes I still wish I had it when I make toast for breakfast.

Oh man!! I wish this video came out last week... I didn't know how to un-crystalize my honey (store brought from a local farmer, in a plastic container, and was stored in my basement) but I didn't want to throw it out. I ended up cutting the plastic off, to get to the honey, then slowly heating the honey directly in a shallow pan on the stove. Never getting to a boil but I was originally wondering if I "damaged" the honey... hmmm.. (but now thinking that it may be okay). While it was still warm, I put on the mason lid and ring and now it's completely canned and sealed. The honey now looks clear and back to its beautiful Amber color. Yay! Thank you for this tip. I'm definitely going to remember this for the future. God Bless & Thank You!!

When we harvest honey it is liquid and easy to pour into wide mouth jars. Much easier than waiting until it crystallizes. I just heat it in a pan of hot water if/when it gets hard. 2 years ago we harvested over 100 lbs of honey from 2 hives. You have to leave 80 lb of honey in the hive to overwinter the bees. It is still amazing to me that those little worker bees harvest enough nectar to keep the hive fed all winter and share a bunch of honey with us. Bees are the hardest working livestock on our place.

I love honey in the “butter” stage because it’s easier and less messy to spread and the kids and grandkids can put homey on their toast all by themselves too! 🐝 💕

Nope .... never threw out crystallized honey. Used to warm it back up in a microwave (but was worried it might get too hot), but now I just run some real hot water(not too hot) and dunk the container in it. Yep ..... works like a charm - thanks, and take care.

Thank you for this!! I have a big jar that crystallized. I knew you could put it in hot water but I didn't know how hot so I didn't want to do it and ruin it. Can you do this more than once if it crystallizes again? - I'm going to be buying my tickets for the HOA conference soon! My boyfriend and I are planning on heading down to VA from CT for it. I can't wait! I'm looking forward to seeing you and Stacy and so many others in the homesteading community. It's going to be so much fun! - All the best.~ Theresa

I never did throw it away, but one boss did. (And I yanked it back out when he wasn't looking) I didn't know, however, about over heating it. Thanks for the info. Blessings
