- FINALLY THIS IS DONE. This has been brewing since the start of the year. If anyone wonders if my opinions have changed since scripting and recording to finishing the video, I would probably bump up Toji and Xiangfei and knock down Tsugumi (her theme is such dogshit that I couldn't believe what I was hearing)
Also I know no one reads the description, but by the same logic I used to place Alice on the list, I should've technically also ranked Lilly. If you're really that curious, she's probably somewhere in the low 40s - high 30s.

It's crazy to think that The King of Fighters would be nothing without the Fatal Fury characters, but even so Snk disrespects them in their modern games and treats them as a joke, even the supposed company muscot Terry Bogard doesn't escape.

@@maxanderson3733 Well Terry and co never win anything in "KOF". They are mainly in there as slotfillers, and are made to look weak and ordinary next to the main cast despite being who they are. In other forms of KOF such as the hong kong comics, Terry gets jobbed out like crazy and loses for the shittest reasons. Even Ryo is treated better.

You don't know how gratifying it is for me to have someone recognize Andy's character, well at least outside Latin America since he's a very popular character here, I know a lot of people who like his character and play with him, but still I think he deserves much more love, recognition and respect from the fans as well as characters like Terry, Kyo, Iori or Mai, I genuinely think he's one of the best characters not only from Fatal Fury or Kof, but Snk in general, for me he is super iconic, charismatic and above all a very interesting and deep character, He's been part of my main team in every Kof along with Terry and Joe since i was a little kid (Fatal Fury team is the best Kof team, fight me) he's one of my favorite characters not only from Snk, but from fighting games in general, it's a shame that some people think that his character revolves around Mai and it's just the opposite LOL

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times: Andy is full of untapped potential. It really feels like SNK was building something up for him in the 90s but...I guess they dropped it all and introduced Rock instead. Sadly nowadays it feels like Andy doesn't even need to exist, but I will die on the hill that Andy is awesome and deserving of more attention.
latam is great with snk talks sometimes, from experience in mexico. for mexicans at least they probably got the most fatal fury and metal slug arcade machines especially in their peak/prime when it comes to the snk arcade scene back in bean land as most people later started playing at these places called frikiplazas for tournaments sakes at locals when arcades were going low over there instead since was cheaper for most places to buy a console a kof13 copy. anyways yeah latam really appreciates the characters when looked down as ACTUAL characters too and not just gameplay!

@@elinator8889 As a Brazilian I can say that Kof was part of our country's culture, almost every bar had an arcade with a Kof game and people were simply passionate about the games, maybe Kof is as famous as Street Fighter around here, but unfortunately with the arrival of consoles and the end of the arcade era Kof lost his popularity and kind of stayed in the past and only old school guys like me are still fanatical of the series, luckily with the arrival of Kof's 13, 14 and 15 new players got to know the franchise and old arcade players were able to enjoy a good Kof again

He is based on Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon (1972). As well as Jackie Chan in Police Story 3: Supercop (1992).

Andy Bogard is my personal favourite SNK fighter. He has the best moveset and a great looking fighting style imo! I know, he doesn't appear in this list but Ryo Sakazaki is my nr. 2 and his 10 hit desperation attack in Fatal Fury Special looks so cool...
At least Andy and Mai are an item in KOF (though their dynamic is largely the same; now she's trying to rope him into marriage). I think they hooked up sometime around 2000, considering that's when they got the unique intro where she pranks him with the baby puppet.
As for Geese' appeal, I think what makes him work is he feels like an actual, intimidating human being. The over-the-top fighting game bosses of KOF are cool, no doubt but I think a lot of Geese's appeal comes from the fact he feels like a real person who would honest-to-god fuck you up. Not just in a fight, but with how much he realistically sells the crime lord element of his character, as well. he doesn't feel like a gangster caricature, he feels like an actual kingpin, and his moveset feels genuinely strong and intimidating as opposed to a lot of fighting game characters where it's "look at my cool projectile/special effects". Even his own special effect stuff feels more visceral compared to other fighting game bosses.
Put it pretty well there, yeah. Geese is played pretty straight in a genre with so many over the top martial art masters and magic users and it makes him all the more intimidating for it.

This was way more entertaining than it had any right to be. Good pacing and jokes really helped.
The list was also solid, my only criticism is alot of media outside Fatal Fury really influenced these picks, sure that's what most of these characters are known for, but Mai is surprisingly subdued and graceful in the actual series, whereas she's a shrill annoying pair of sentient udders everywhere else.

Before I ramble I just wanna say this was a really good video and despite being a bit nervous to watch it I’m glad I did. Excellent work, Mr. Sex. I’m very certain that nobody will ever read this comment but I wanted to do it anyway so I can sleep good tonight
I absolutely adore every character that has ever been in a Fatal Fury game. Even the most boring of boring characters from the series are still gold to me. Something about this series just sparks all my happy emotions and makes me smile.
I’ve thought pretty hard about my favorite characters from media as a whole and Mai and Terry have been hogging the top two spots for as long as I’ve cared about having a favorite character. I buy games they are in just to play as them and nab collectible figures of them to the detriment of my financial wellbeing.
Terry instantly sold me when I saw him, and literally everything about him is just perfect to me. His personality, design, gameplay, voice, story, I CANNOT GET ENOUGH. He is truly one of the characters in the genre, if not the best.
But somehow I like Mai more. I am aware she has some issues with not having a lot of depth, but something about her just makes me smile. She just seems to always be in a good mood, with a lot of infectious enthusiasm. Not to mention that she’s one of the first few characters alongside Terry I picked as a main when getting into SNK games.
I remember the one thing that really took my Mai bias skyward was finding out she’s a metalhead. It seems so out of pocket, but it just immediately made her really endearing to me. I forget where I found out, but I also heard that someone mentioned in an interview that Pantera is her favorite band, and that inspired me to check them out. Also, Mai in ripped jeans with a leather jacket goes super hard and I’m praying they give her a costume like that eventually. Fingers crossed for City of the Wolves! Even though most of this is pure bias and probably desperate headcanoning she’s my favorite character in all of fiction, seeing her makes me feel safe I guess. Terry too, can’t leave him out.

@@JohnSexDD I think people underrate him as a design. He’s always super fun to play, also story wise he’s as good as any of the mains. He’s an uncrowned champ. In AOF 3 he beat Ryo (former champ) and the super OP Wyler.
Love the video, tbh tho, I adore Kain. I do a lot of research on characters I find interesting, and yeah it should be in the game ofc, but I love Kain and Grant’s lore quite a lot.

1:22 this one is subjective-I like Rick, but personally prefer Xiangfei. She is a bit less unique in terms of design though, I'd imagine the "cute Chinese girl in qipao" look isn't too uncommon.
3:22 Dong is a real name apparently (Chinese from what I found, but not unlikely to be used in Korea). He's probably one of my favorite SNK characters, though, so I may be biased. I actually do wish he took one more special from Kim, it feels like his moveset is one attack short of full.
8:33 Jae is cool, but I kinda dislike that he's basically Kim again. His only differences are one special and one super, and while I get that being like his dad is part of his story, it still feels as if he's there solely to serve as Kim. He does have more development though, which Dong doesn't have.
33:15 I think a while ago, one of the KoF devs/leaders said they would look at adding Kim in another season of DLC. Most likely, the current season is already done or close to done, so that's as good as it will get. Team wise, I really hope they don't do Chang and Choi again. Ignoring my personal dislike of them, he was only put with them because the original devs never made a third criminal (which they kinda did with Xanadau), and they don't really mesh well with Kim besides the whole "rehabilitation" thing.
Jhun and May Lee would be cool, but if it were up to me, I'd actually go with Dong and Jae. Have a triple Kim team-it would bring back two characters who haven't been seen since 1999, plus they're different enough. Give Jae a new DP, give Dong one more special, add some more of Kim's old moves back to him, and they'd be pretty unique. It's not like we haven't had a similar scenario with the Kyokugen characters, or Shotokans from SF, where they started off as clones but became pretty unique over time.
Side notes: Blue Mary is dope, but I personally prefer the red top in KoF. Do give her the green jacket though (Garou Terry style). On that note, I prefer Garou Terry over regular Terry. Also, Andy is dope, I wish he wasn't sidelined so much (and bro, if he ain't gonna bang Mai, at least have him be honest instead of this stupid awkward "will won't" shit).
Hey, love your content dude. You deserve a lot more subscribers for the quality of your work. There's not many people that want to discuss the characters and story elements in 90s SNK games, but I'm a gigantic autist and I love that shit. Keep doin' what you do.
Word up man, it's such a niche interest but I love the way SNK used to cater to 90s western sensibilities with character design and story. I feel like that kind of thing has been lost in this day and age but I will always love the vibe these games have. Glad you enjoy the videos!

7:02 TO BE FAIR; Terry has kind of killed multiple people by this point from Geese to technically Krauser. For all intents and purposes Kevin more realistically mistook John Wayne Gacy for Al Bundy. He wasn’t WRONG that Terry was a serial killer per say… just wrong about WHICH ONE he was.
To be fair, Terry did try to save Geese from falling, but the latter decided to be a spiteful bitch and refused to be saved
The quality of your videos always has me forgetting that you don't even have 3k subs yet. Feels like you should at least have a couple million. Not that numbers should really mean anything. I don't think I've seen a video I haven't liked yet and the videos don't feel nearly as long as they are. I mean, I do like 40+ minute videos, but they feel like they go by in 15 minutes.

The reason i personally like Geese can be reflected by his iconic counter,while he has some goofy stuff (and honestly i can see why someone would call his counter corny),he feels like he can put his money where his mouth is no matter how big the challenge with meaty hits that could probably lariat a moving truck. He doesn't make it look easy (Imho) and that's the point,he is here to pull out all the stops and he wants everyone to know that.

I’d put geese at 2 personally but I’d say I was happy to see that appreciation for Billy he’s the best SNK rival ever 100 times better then iori cause he’s just gay for Kyo and does the same shit
Billy and Terry actually have an interesting dynamic, which is more than I could ever say about Kyo and Iori
28:18 I mean you say this but K’ won 11. And kyo won 13/14. And ash is still relevant in 15. I say Kof really understands how to pass the torch unlike sf and tekken which hey scared when a new guy holds it and forces it back into the first guys hand. They keep them relevant but don’t force them to be the absolute focus anymore. They still contribute but don’t invalidate the new guy. It’s a nice balance.
The thing is K' and Kyo are beloved and even Ash has some fans. I don't even think Shun Ei will be retroactively liked, certainly not enough for SNK to let him win another tourney. Unless the next KOF protagonist is a complete dumpster fire character.

there was a time in SFIV where capcom wanted to explore more on vega by giving him a plot where he wants to continue being, unfortunately again, beautiful by stopping the process of aging instead of being another one of bisons henchmen.
