Zaanse Schans is a beautiful windmill village and a top-rated day trip destination from Amsterdam.
Located just north of Amsterdam, the Zaanse Schans offers a perfectly preserved glimpse into the Netherlands' industrial past with its traditional wooden houses, windmills, warehouses , Cheese factory and workshops.
Visiting Zaanse Schans:
The Zaanse Schans attracts nearly a million visitors per year and it's one of the Netherlands' best loved attractions. The outdoor portion of the Zaanse Schans is open to view without paying admission, but opening times and entrance prices vary at each of its museums, workshops, and windmills.
How to get to Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam:
Many choose to visit the Zaanse Schans as part of a guided tour or excursion, but the village is also easy to reach under your own steam by car or public transport -
🚌 You can reach here by taking bus 391 from Amsterdam central Station, Bus will take you directly to
the wind mills area and takes around 45 minutes.and a round trip ticket will cost around 11.5 euros.
🚋 But I will suggest to go Zaanse Schans by train from Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station because of 2 reasons.
1⃣ - it is cheaper, as you must be using GBV day card for public transport in Amsterdam, hence travel to Sloterdijk station is covered in that pass.. and a round trip train ticket from sloterdijk station to Zandijk Zaanse Schans station will cost 6.4 euros, so you will save 5 euros compared to bus ticket.
2⃣ - From Zaandijk Zaanse Schans station, windmills village is at a 10-15 mins walk, during which u will cross the zaan river, and from the bridge you will get beautiful panoramic view of the old windmills.

Maam - basis your screen shot about multiple card am wondering why you chose GVB card over Amsterdam regional card. Let me explain for 2 days gvb cost 14.5 plus Keukenhof bus round ticket 11.50 and zanshe 6.5 which comes 32.5 whereas amsterdam regional covers same with 28. There must be some reason why you opted for that card. Please guide as am simply following you to fulfill our Europe dream trip. Many thanks and god bless you for such beautiful presentation
Hi Samir, Actually we visited Zaanse Schans on 4th day.. Our itinerary was as per below:
Day 1 - visited AMsterdam & it was our base for 3 nights.
Day 2. Visited Keukenhoff , evening back to Amsterdam & strolled around the town.
Day 3. Visited Giethoorn , evening back to Amsterdam
Day 4, Checked out of hotel & kept luggage in the locker room of hotel & visited Zaanse Schans , evening back to hotel to take luggage & travelled back to Paris (as we live in Paris).
So according to this Itinerary GBV was cheaper compare to regional pass..
If you can cover Zaanse Schan, Keukenhoff , Amsterdam in 2 days then you can opt for regional pass .

at 5:46. For all people who walk on the Zaanse Schans, please note, the cycle path is a public road where real bicycles ride. So you shouldn't be walking there. You are supposed to walk on the dike and you have to be careful when crossing.

Thank you. Very informative video yet again. I was thinking of doing a trip to Zaanse Schans and Zaandam together. I read somewhere to buy the roundtrip ticket to Zaanse Schans and while returning, stop at Zaandam and use the same ticket. Is it possible?
Also, better to buy e-ticket from NS website to save on the cost?

There is an entry fee for going to the top of windmills (we skipped that due to long queue).. All places shown in videos are free..

As i have a shortage of days can i cover both keukenhof and zaanshe schans in a single day. Is there any way we can go directly from keukenhof or we need to visit still via airport
The fastest way is to back to Airport and then take the train to Zandam Zaanse Schans station.
It's difficult to do both on the same day especially with kids and elders.
