- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at the Playstation Portal, a "streaming" handheld that seems to be the latest portable offering from Sony since the days of the Playstation Vita. It's an absolutely pointless idea and I'm here to discuss why. Thanks for watching!

They should remake the psp
J
So instead of a PSP, they decided to go with the much and fairly hated idea of remote play. What an amazing strategy.
Why not just copy the idea of the steam deck. Its so stupid.
@@mechboltxl4591 this was a rushed response to the steam deck, guaranteed.
@@DanielFerreira-ez8qd They've had a year and a half and Sony is an enormous company with their own production capabilities. They could've made something more advanced than a Wii U pad.
@@Aeduothey had the psp line
Also they could've made it so you could stream cloud games on it too...
I don't know what's more concerning: The fact that someone thought this was a good idea, or that fact that someone else agreed with the first person, and made that idea real
Or the clowns willing to buy this
I'm surprised it even made it out of the planning phase. No cloud streaming at the very freaking least? Damn.
and no point along the lines did anyone go "wait wtf are we even doing"
It's just another piece of evidence showing just how out of touch with videogames sony has been for a while, they're almost up there with pre-release xbox one era Microsoft, almost.
Playstation Switch, how original.
Well this is good if you want to play Gacha games like Genshin Impact, Tower of Fantasy, PSO and others.
The PlayStation Portable was groundbreaking. And it still holds up incredibly well. To go from that to the Portal is crazy.
How does it hold up well?
By using proprietary memory cards and faux cartridge / mini-disc hybrid monstrosities?
By utilizing the ugliest UI in gaming history?
By shoehorning movies into their overpriced, redundant format?
Or by coupling it with wireless internet in what was the actual worst time for WiFi, a time they changed things to make channels faster but instead sacrificed data integrity for transfer speeds.
The only thing worse at the time? PSPGo. What an abomination 😬
@@nolankuffner3573 Don't forget about battery power consumption. Without wireless, maybe a little better than a Game Gear's.

And yet, it sold 81 million worldwide.
The PSP is one of the greatest consoles I have ever owned. Great library of games, internet and other media built in a gaming handheld; truly ahead of its time. A lot good memories attached to the device. Would love to see a newer version of it. But Sony for some reason thinks remote play is the way to go.
They're not doing a portable.
Because developers.
Don't want.
To divide resources.
Between an underpowered handheld.
And a cutting edge home system.
Literally.
Fucking.
NO ONE.
You know what's crazy?
Nintendo messed up the 3DS launch so badly, they had to nerf it's price IMMEDIATELY.
Sony's response? A more powerful PSP that the west basically didn't care about, and few developers ever cared existed.
Switch works BECAUSE it's underpowered enough to stay portable.
If I'm making games today and they take twice as long to make as when Vita dropped, I'm not wasting money making a new system just so people can ignore it to buy a Steamdeck 🤷
Only someone lacking literally all business sense would make that decision.
@@nolankuffner3573they don’t have to work with underpowered handhelds have you seen the steam deck or the gpd win 4? They can run triple A games smoothly just like consoles can they just cost a little more, Sony had no excuse because if steam aya neo and gpd can do it they can
@@nolankuffner3573 Nice poetry
It's easier and cheaper to develop for handheld, I can imagine many first and third party developers making games for a new psp. Tons of old ps3 and ps2 games put on handheld also.
psp is a handheld, not console
I feel bad for all the parents that will get this for their kids expecting a console.
For real. Inevitably thousands of kids this christmas will be getting this as a gift and not realizing it needs a PS5 to do anything. Essentially a paperweight. When that happens Sony will lose money from all the returns.
Definitely. Marketing is crucial for any new product, and the marketing for this product is unclear and confusing- big mistake. I was under the impression this was like a Switch, but it’s not. It requires an actual PS5 console.
oh god
especially any unknowing non gaming parents with gaming offspring
parents should also do their homework tho
An 8 inch 1080p LCD for $200 is literally a middle finger to the consumer
I wonder if both the concept and price was conceived during the semi conductor shortage
I mean, the switch did it first and Nintendo stans still suck off Nintendo for it, and for $100 MORE
I can probably pickup a 32" or so tv for around the same price then maybe run a second 100 ft. HDMI cord to another room to play PS5 games everywhere in my house. About the same cost and appeal to me.
I think it's great value for money I just spent more than 200 on a new gaming keyboard
@@ctcrule100 heck 1080p 60hz streaming is supported by most cheapo wireless streasming sticks. Just buy one for like 30 bucks and you will have a similar expierience.
In an era where parents “parent” their children with tablets and phones, it’s incredibly stupid for these companies not to capitalize on that market..
That’s actually exactly what they’re doing. Just not the way you think. While their kids are watching the tv they now going to be gaming in their hands.
So they’re actually targeting those parents
@@Frankenslide No I get it. But I’m mostly referring to the kids. Im sorry if my wording made it seem that way. @@mrsteelurswag to be fair, streaming it on an iPad kinda sucks. And even if you use a dual sense you don’t get the benefits of a dual sense. Then you need something to hold the iPad on a table top or something. This is far more practical and should feel just like playing natively
Can’t wait to pick this up in 5 years for $20 when I find this in the old GameStop playstation accessory bargain bin with such bangers like the PS Move and PlayTV
man I would like those bargain bins here in Australia I want a PS move specifically for CSGO on PS3
It's incredible how people look at the mistakes of other companies and see how much worse they can do it.
Why can't they just let the Ouya die instead of resurrecting it every few years?
Agree. It blows my mind that these CZcamsrs want this device to fail at all costs and cannot imagine a real purpose for this device cause they are stuck in their own world with a great setup and much free time and no other responsibilities.

They really did. Everyone on Reddit and CZcams keeps screaming how much they want a standalone handheld and here goes Sony showing all of us a giant middle finger. Since it apparently runs Android, at least let us install some emulators..
At 200 dollars I don't expect it to run anything beyond PS1 or maybe PS2 games. Might as well use your phone.

@@myriadhues457 lmao you could even get a ps backbone or a phone bracket to connect to the ps5 controller and this would be better value than buying an enitre hardware that LITERALLY REQUIRES THE PS5
For the early 2000s, the PSP was an absolute beast. Even though I never owned one and would neved have traded my GBA for one, I had a lot of respect for it. 3D graphics of that quality on a handheld was awesome.
The Vita was equally impressive when it came out, if not more so.
Two fully 3D GTA games which became top sellers respectively, 2 GOW games, MGS: Peace Walker and Portable Ops, Daxter, Persona 3 Portable, Monster Hunter Freedom. The PSP was goated
Fun fact: Using good remote software to play your gaming PC anywhere in your house over WiFi using a laptop works surprisingly well. Been using Parsec to remote into my Ryzen 5 3600X build using a Lenovo Thinkpad from 2010, running Linux Mint!

I feel Sony is just done with portable devices. This is just their half assed attempts of making a new one.
Remember the early 2000s era when Sony had gaming in the palm of their hand.
Nah they would mess that up too by making it only work with some weird Sony-only memory cards which cost $200 for 256GB (instead of $20 microSD cards).
i am almost certain that sony didnt know what they were doing with the vita and accidentally made some good decisions that let the console live on in hands of the homebrew community.
Back in my childhood I loved (and still loving) the tech used for the PSP, it felt really cool to put a mini disc inside a handheld!
I wish Sony could create a tech using Blu Ray discs but the size of a UMD disc for a PSP 3 instead of the PSQ.
The worst part is they genuinely just could’ve released a PSP3 that actually ran games AND streamed from your PS5, and sold it for the exact same price, but no, they decided that for whatever reason, THIS would be a good idea. At least the Wii U had the excuse that it was just a standard controller that could pull this off
"for whatever reason"
Most likely Sony know they won't give it full support like the PSP days so they rather not risk it instead releasing an unnecessary accessory that is far less risky even if it won't be profitable.
The wii U didn't make you pay extra for it. But then again, sony copied a console that didn't sell well
bro, if they made a portable ps2 or ps3, imma buy it for 200
They can make a PSP with the power of the steamdeck or Ally. Port all of their old titles from Ps1 to ps4 and they'd make billions.
Missed opportunity lmao 🤣😂.
@@MrREAPERszI think it depends on the company like Take2, EA or Ubisoft if they want to port their game into the console/handheld
Isnt PSVita failed because lack of games available since some of those studios didnt port their game or make game for PSVita?

I got my steam deck today and it's been hella fun. The reason I love portable is that it requires 0 space and all I need is a power source to keep it charged.
On top of that, what Valve did with SteamOs. I can literally install old fallout games which i love and they just run without excuse. Better than my Windows gaming pc. Low res sure, but as long as it's not pixelated mess i could care less.
Exactly I love mine. The steamdeck is a success. But Sony could've blown it out of the water with another PSP that has ps4 power. Especially if they port all of their best titles to it.
@@MrREAPERsz Yeah I had psp and vita but it seems like Sony either has certain numbers they do not tell or they are just trying to do effortless cash grab. Because if they didnt sell psp and vita like they hoped, I assume they think it's not worth the effort. Who knows...
I would have use for it for sure there’s a lot of times I want to play in my bedroom, or the kids of white or using the tv in the living room. Also away from home too I use remote play so this is going to be an upgrade. Only bad thing to me is it doesn’t have Bluetooth so they paywalled wireless audio.
A Vita 2 would do SO well right now... the last first party handhelds that fit in a pocket were the 3ds and Vita, there is a whole generation of kids missing out on the joys of throwing a system in your pocket and bringing it with you everywhere, playing locally with kids on the bus. I don't understand how it's been so long without any first party company realizing this..
Eh, I don't think kids now are missing out.
The thing is, most of those go on in mobile games, where people play together. I also remember a lot of kids sitting together and playing Minecraft Education on their laptops like it was a LAN party. I do think we need more in the handheld space though.

My favorite part is how many people miss the core issue. It's not a $200 device. It's only $200 if you already own a PS5 since it does nothing by itself. So to compare it to a steam deck or Nintendo switch you would have to compare it's real price. That being $600 USD ($400 for a PS5 + $200 for the portal).
It's a $200 knockoff Wii U controller is what it is.
The fact there are products exactly like this on the market tells you how little sony is trying.
With the computing, graphics, storage, and wireless options we have today, Sony could literally package all of their classic PS-One & PS2 games in memory and sell a PS Vita Retro and make money hand over fist for people who want to relive their favorite early PS games in a mobile format, but instead they produce something that is useless, proprietary, and something that answers a question that a very small few have bothered to ask.
Way to continue to miss that mark Sony! 👍
You have no idea just how hard and expensive it would be to legally licence all those games
Actually, they can just resell the launch PS3 which was backwards compatible with much better cooling and more lightweight. I'd say a larger storage device too since these games are old, an HDD is enough, like 4TB. It could come with all Sony first party games (or with a mini store where you could buy them for cheap) and then it could let you use old PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 discs that you own. I wouldn't care if it was more than 500, I'd get it in a heartbeat.
@@shawnpepin7890 Yeah, the vast majority of game preservation is an issue of licensing. PS3 emulation is far from perfect, but considering how far its come when the original developer provides absolutely zero support of access to the original binary files, it just goes to show that almost all the technical hurdles of running old games are fully surmountable.
It's all about licensing rights. Tracking down who holds rights if anyone still does. Or if those rights have been split up/consolidated/lost/sold etc . . .
so true. currently, an affordable under $200 handheld emulator that runs PS2 flawlessly doesn't yet exist. They could have totally cornered the market.

The handheld market has been dominated by Nintendo for the last 10 years. With such a good grasp of the home console market, why would Sony risk capital on a handheld?

Why can't Sony just make another Vita (but without the proprietary memory cards this time)
It's crazy that they didn't just make this a controller that wraps around a smartphone. They already have the remote play app, so it would do the same thing, and people who play games on their phone would actually want it.

Welp, Deck is somewhere near PS4 when it comes to computing power, Ally and Lenovo's handheld are even more powerful, so technology is definitely there. But man, if Sony would release PS4 Portable for the $400-$450 I'd get it on a flash, and if it could run PS/PS2/PS3 games (locally of course, Deck can emulate all of the 3 platforms easily, Sony could do it too) I'd even be fine with $500 to be honest. It'd be a killer on the market. Instead we got something like... this.
No $500 handheld will ever be a killer, especially if the only games released for it are games already available on your non-handheld consoles, if you do that you are cannibalizing your console and SW sales both ways at least to some degree. To ship a console in large numbers, handheld or not, you need exclusives. The Deck/Ally are fantastic devices but they are still niche devices. Many players who are PC players are not wanting to spend 400 USD on a device that plays the games they already can play but is portable. It mainly appeals to a certain demographic of people who either A) do not own PCs, B) have owned PCs in the past but not currently C) Travel often. If Sony wants a slam dunk success of a handheld they will need to treat it like its own platform with its own exclusives. An extension of the PS4-PS5 will by definition have limited appeal. Obviously, they realize this, and since they are not willing to invest all of the time and resources that it takes to launch and support a completely new platform, they decided to go the exact opposite route and offer the PS5- portable extension gamepad the most barebones way possible.
As much as I would love a new handle device to rival the steam deck (in all honesty, with Sony's back catalogue, you'd think a hand held device that could play ps1-ps4 + psp/vita games would be a no brainer...) but imo they're already losing money each PS5 per unit sold, they probably don't want another piece of hardware that they lose even more money on.
You hit the nail on the head on why Sony isn't going to do it. It's a big investment. Let's not forget that launching a new platform does not only involve production costs, but also a significant amount of overhead, marketing, customer support etc... Sony released a fantastic handheld in the Vita and it was a big flop back in 2013 when there was only one competitor and it was the 3 year old relatively massively underpowered 3DS. The handheld market atm is definitely more competitive than it was when the Vita released, with the Deck and Ally already being machines that can play a bunch of Sony games either first party/third party or via emulation, and obviously Switch being one of the all-time commercial successes, AND a bunch of budget handhelds that can emulate. A Sony handheld could obviously be a huge success regardless, but it would require Sony to be ready to really go all in on it. Judging by what they just announced with the portal, seems like they are absolutely not willing to do just that.
Bang-on point once again Muta. I had the PSP and Vita. The Vita was very capable, but I just felt Sony dropped the ball with support. The PSP will always be one of my favourite handhelds. Putting custom firmware on that thing and playing good PSP games along side emulation was incredible. I have NFI what Sony is thinking with this weird-ass streaming device. Some Sony executies need to be shown the door.
They did the vita a disservice, it was so promising and some of the titles were really fun and optimized 😭 I loved my psp and vita but I probably wouldn’t even consider buying this over a steam deck
Sad thing is tmk the Vita got a lot of support in JP but in the west was basically left to die

The ONLY situation in which this is a somewhat OK idea would be if TV prices were through the roof-- but right now is literally the best time in history to get a really high-functioning smart TV for an extremely good price--- if you've got an extra $200 lying around, and can't share a TV with someone...just get a new TV with that money! The whole point of a portable console is that you can play it on the go anywhere, anytime and they were cheap but the fact that you need to have a PS5 (which is already an expensive console to begin with) makes it so only people with lots of money could afford it and thats not the worst part the fact that you also have to have both the device and console connected to the same wifi means you cant even take it out of your house this device fails on so many levels that its bound for failure.
It's remote play.. you can use it outside the house..haven't you ever used remote play before
Bro no you cant complain about things being expensive then want a independent console. How much do you think a device would cost to play triple a games on the go in good quality? If money is a issue you weren't going to buy that independent console anyway. It would be 400$ or 500$

A vita that can emulate ps1, ps2 and ps3 games would be so cool. They can release a new vita when technology gets better so ps4 and ps5 on the go become a thing. I emulate ps1 and ps2 games but I personally grew up with the ps3 and would love to emulate it on a mobile device.
3 is harder to emulate, 360 emulation is easier
@@BigBossultrastealthI call BS, RPCS3 is in way better state than Xenia, and emulating PS3 games is easier to set up than yuzu, given Sony just allows to download necessary firmware from their official website. And both of them run pretty great on Steam Deck.
No need for emulation. They just need to port them to the device. 900p 30-60fps. Handhelds have the power to play good games now. The Ally has the power. So does the deck.
A homebrew Vita can play PS1 easily and lots of PS2 games had a PSP port, which it can play natively.

I’ll never understand playing games “on the go” on a small screen. Only reason l would do that is if im gonna be gone for weeks like a trucker and don’t have the patience to wait til I got back, but if you have the option to play at on a monitor there’s no point to this thing
Idk man, this is clearly a hot take, but consider the fact that maybe this product wasn’t meant for you or regular gamers. Specifically hard core gamers.
My situation for example makes this an EXTREMELY convincing purchase. I’m 37 years old, wife, 2 kids, who are always hogging the tv. I legit only got to play AC6 for like 1.5 hours across my entire weekend because the tv was being used. My body doesn’t like to stay up until the wee hours of the morning and game anymore because I have to be awake the next morning early to be with my family.
This device will allow me to sit on the couch and play my PlayStation while my girlfriend watches her stupid shows or when my toddler is busy watching Mrs. Rachel. This is fucking awesome and I’m stoked for it.
And yes, I know I could use my phone, but my phone screen is small. My phones network adapter is also busy doing many other things that could contribute to lag or latency issues. This device being solely created for streaming my PS5 feels like it was designed for me. And I’m positive I’m not alone here.
Now I can lay in bed with my wife and still play my PS5. This is fucking awesome.
So how about instead of raging about it and slandering the product, just accept the fact that you’re pissed off because a game company made a product that wasn’t designed for you.
Sony really did just make another Wii U in the year 2023. Absolutely brilliant strategy. *(Sarcasm)*
The difference is that if you knew what it was it was a good console
For what it's worth, the PS5's been Sony's effective WiiU anyhow [strictly compared to its predecessors of course, obviously it's sold better than the actual WiiU], clearly they just decided they might as well make it official with a gamepad
Sony smart, now u cant heck this like vita. Sony angry for that😂

Maybe it is interesting to see if people can hack it and see what they can do with it.
Outside of that, i think streaming is not supported because it did not get the performance levels people would expect and they disabled it alltogether.
I was even trying to play both side but what got me was the wireless headset deal with not allowing Bluetooth and only their own proprietary signals.. like wtf even nintendo allows bluetooth!
The design of the Portal looks like the old Microsoft XCloud controller cradle mockups that got released, except rather than having it's own screen - you put your phone into it. This is that, with the screen is built in... and it stops working when you leave your house. It reminds me of all those streaming services you sign up for to watch one premier, and then forgot your subscribed and you don't notice it until the next month's credit statement comes in. This thing was obviously shotgunned through R&D in response to Microsoft's XCloud - and then someone higher up forgot to cancel the project it until it was ready to ship, so they're just gonna roll with it.
Actually, according to IGN, you CAN play it around the world because it lets you turn on your PS5 from anywhere in the world (as long as your internet back home is running). Still a dumb accessory though. It's technically a portable PS5 but it lacks features, battery life and is entirely dependant on wifi.

Is there any way to get PS5 remote play on a PSVita via modding?
Not to mention the Xperia play phone.. I had that thing for a Loong time. It had more than a few problems, like battery life and storage capacity. but with current tech and interest in portable systems, It has to be the perfect time for a new PSP phone. instead we get this..
I hope they’ve implemented a more robust controller scheme for it as well. The spring for my left trigger removed itself and not to mention stick drift.
For a while now, I’ve thought the Wii U would’ve worked better if the gamepad could be used as a standalone handheld console; basically taking two different consoles, and giving them the ability to work as one. While it’s not the same, the Switch shows that the hybrid console idea actually *can* work, so I don’t know what the fat cats at Sony were smoking when they looked at the Wii U and Switch, and decided to skew closer to the former. Even more baffling considering the Steam Deck copied the Switch’s homework, and is quite popular.
How did the STEAM DECK copy the SWITCH?

Sony remote play for their consoles has been around since the PS3 days. You could stream to a PSP or a PSVITA from the PS3. The PS4 and PS5 can stream to the ps vita aswell.
As someone who doesn’t own a PS5 or want to, the biggest problem with Sony’s current strategy is that you NEED to own a PS5 before you can buy any of their “cutting edge” products.
The $500 VR headset and now $200 Portal means you have to drop $400 minimum on the newest console first. Because Sony also “believes in generations” buyers go in with the understanding they’ll be using these products for 5 to 6 more years max before they have to upgrade EVERYTHING. I know what they’re trying (they want to make everyone go out and buy a PS5 for this junk), but its really just increasing the barriers to entry into their ecosystem and its just not sustainable. Right now they rely on their dominate market position and the powerful hold the PS brand has, but they’re building a wall between them and new consumers. Not even Apple makes their products that exclusive to Apple. I’ve largely moved away from Apple (namely from my stage of wanting everything I owned to have their brand on it) because I’ve come to hate their ecosystem and business practices toward consumers, but one thing I consistently buy (on sale) are their way too expensive bluetooth airpod pros because its a solid product I can use with everything I own. Apple has an incredibly closed off software ecosystem, but understands that hardware accessories need to have universal usage right out the box. The portal both isn’t that good and is being advertised as something that only has use to PS5 owners. If they made a modern PS Vita or PSP that competes with the Steam Deck in terms of power and scale, I might have actually bought my first Playstation this generation.
This is also so incredibly funny considering they have a mobile app for streaming your PS4/PS5 already
Great, the guys at Playstation made a Wii U controler, well done everyone!
we're in 2023 while Sony is stuck in 2014.
Wii u controller works better than this thing because it doesn’t lag or delay since it’s not Wi-Fi streaming
It's objectively worse than the Wii U controller since: A) It doesn't come bundled with the system and B) It uses a wifi connection.
@@gamble777888wii u had stylus for touchscreen
We all know the Wii U was SOOOO successful and worth replicating as well lol
Once it gets hacked it might be an alright emulation device. I don't think it will be great, but it should do good on older systems. The only problem I have with it as an emulation device is... why would anybody want to emulate on a device that has the dual sense controller built in?
If Sony wanted this to succeed, it needs to have games that you can play locally when out of the house(no internet connection required). They could have at the very least made it play digital versions of ps1, vita, and psp games. Then they could have a section of the store dedicated to selling games to play on this device.
My phone and Backbone do the same thing. Having only spent $50 on the controller, and the phone already bought (as a phone!), this new device seems utterly pointless.
There is something much more intimate about portable gaming for sure. This ‘console’ had potential
I seriously feel something shady is going on behind the scenes about this device. They can't be that stupid to launch something so anti-consumer in every blatant way
I don't know if it's shady; I think it's a catch-22. If they make a good PSP, the expectations would be huge. It would have to be on the same level as the Steam Deck and have most of the features the Steam Deck has, if not more. The pricing would be difficult. A good PSP would attract most customers to it, and we would have another scalping season. If the price is too high, then people will complain. If you reduce the features to maintain a low price, it becomes the device people don't want.
I already stream it into my iPad and use the controller :/ this was a huge let down when I saw it I really thought they were making an actually handheld
Only decent handheld is the Switch, and there's still a lot wrong with it. The Steamdeck is said to be good. All Sony had ti do eas go "right, we need a habdheld, how can we make a Steamdeck, but even better?"
They legit just needed to look at the Switch & Steamdeck and combine the best of both of them.
It's beyond me how detached they are from their consumer base.
Absolutely spot on! My PSP 1001 and Sega Nomad are light years ahead of this "new cutting edge device".
Sega Nomad? Classy. A relic of the first of the best three gaming generations, the 16 bit era..
I stand by that all Sony needed to do was release a handheld that can run the entire ps4 library and have remote play with the ps5, cloud streaming on top of all that would be even better
What they could’ve done is have a handled play the games you already own on your console without the use of cloud streaming. It could act as an *_actual_* ps5 on the go. Almost like how the steam deck allows you to play games you already own on your pc.
You wanted a handheld with the Cell processor so it would run MGS IV or you wanted it to emulate running MGS IV which has been only recently acheived?
@@JamJuice101 yeah if they made a standalone handheld as powerful as the console, that handheld would be way too expensive for the general consumer to even think about buying
@@JamJuice101 I only said ps4 because a handheld ps5 would be far too expensive and hard to make, I don't think we're their yet
@@benji7275 well, you’ll never know until you try.
What's great is that the Steam Deck can already do this (with PS4/Pro/5) right now with Chiaki
What’s the point? The main appeal of consoles like the Steam Deck or Switch are great because they actually work Portable. Internet fluctuates, and relying on it for a portable device ain’t it. The primary use case of a portable device is to use it on the go.
You just know there’s gonna be a kid that gets it for Christmas without realizing it’s not standalone.
This could have had SO much potential. Was legit excited when i first heard about it, then died on the inside when it was announced as remote play only.
Id consider buying it if it had cloud streaming like xbox. I recently went on vacation half way across America and easily played flight sim on my ipad but with this... thing you cant even leave your house, let alone play if the wifi goes out.
This reminds me of the "Console of the futures" images in the 2010s
This looks like one of those fake console leaks you'd see paired up with the XBOX 720 and Wii Phone
I have a PlayStation Backbone for my iPhone 11 and it’s decent as a portable controller for remote play (honestly prefer the little $15 gadget I put on my old regular dual sense that just lets you hold the phone over the controller) but the things that suck about it:
The thumb sticks are so tiny, they feel like they’re made for 6 ur old girls
The controller itself is rather small, but with the case I bought off Amazon it feels a lil thicker now
Backbone is definitely better than this ps crap
as someone who has used remote play various times, i would not bother wasting my money, they have to prove remote play will be lagless before they make an entire device specifically for remote play.
also, have they specified if it will work through the ps4, using the ps5 remote play app they've bundled onto my console, like i'm sat and home and booting up 2 consoles to play on the tv lol.
Unless this can FLAWLESSLY stream my ps5 as if I was playing on the console itself, then what was the point. You can already do that on almost any device with a screen
A glorified ‘I’m so engrossed with my game that I can now take it to the shitter and not skip a beat’ system for 200$
Maybe I would want this if I was 13 years old
I feel like they saw the Steam Deck feature that allows you to stream games from your PC, and a single neuron sparked in a Sony exec's head and they shouted "WANT THAT"
And this is why i own a steam deck… getting the cheapest option it’s got 64gb but i upgraded the m.2 to 1TB and it cost me only a hundred bucks more and with that Linux OS i can emulate almost anything and steam games like FF7 remake inter grade which are also on ps5 play amazingly
