- Add this Phenytoin NCLEX mnemonic and other mnemonics with Pixorize to your NCLEX study plan.
Phenytoin is an anticonvulsant drug used to treat seizures. Phenytoin has a narrow therapeutic range of 10-20 mcg/mL. High doses of phenytoin above this cutoff can lead to symptoms of acute toxicity. These symptoms include ataxia, slurred speech, and nystagmus. The provider should be notified immediately if these symptoms are seen. Another expected side effect of phenytoin is gingival hyperplasia, so encourage your patients to practice good oral hygiene and visit the dentist regularly.

#Phenytoin
Overall great, but note to the creator that the voiceover person says milligrams instead of micrograms which is hugely different
respect for pixorize, it never fails to impress me
Thanks for watching!
I would also mention purple glove syndrome as a big AE
The best explanation ever. Oh my Lord. Thank you guys so much.
Also elevated liver enzymes are seen in older adults
Is there a USMLE version? I have a subscription but had to come to CZcams to find info on Phenytoin - consider including this NCLEX version in USMLE subscription? It is better than nothing.
Im in hospital right now for being in the 40 range so i developed accute toxicity my balance has gone and my vision is blurry and im slurring a bit. Its not too nice. I thank phenytoin for keeping me seizure free for 10 years but it has not been kind to my body. I now have to go without my meds for at least a day but im scared, my seizures im awake for and i suffocate for 3min or so until my brain stops from no oxygen, death looks not so bad in comparison
So sorry to hear this, I really wish you health and healing. And hope you can enjoy your days despite these significant health problems you face every single day. Keep being strong 🙌🏽
Speak to a neurologist a different one let them know you're concerned because it was happening to my grandma. She was admitted to the ER because she fell in the bathtub and hit her head so she was admitted to the ICU and had to get a transfusion of platelets. She was discharged after the 3rd day and fell again the next day so the neurosurgeon wanted to know why she was falling so much! I told them that ever since she's been taking the phenytoin it's been messing her up she loses her balance, leans when she walks, and her body becomes heavy and stiff.
How come Phenytoin is not part of USMLE subscription?
also incompatible with DEXTROSE
Thanks for uploading...❤️
Thanks for watching!
Finally! Thank u
Thank you 💜
Thanks for watching!
Why isn't this drug included in the USMLE section with the rest of the antiepileptics?
Maybe you forget VIT D and folic acid deficiency.
Thx a lot.
Nclex usually test about dextrose compatibility which is a big no...
The girl's head on backward was the creepiest part of this video.
I take phenytoin
300mg for my eplisey sezuire but I be having memory problems sometimes I just discovered phenytoin can cause dementia 😵😔
Man seizures suck, im on 500mg each morning and i just lost partial vision and balance so now the fun begins readjusting doses but they say i should change, wish you the best i hope your seizures dont torture you though, its like someone chokes me to death everytime and im awake every long second
@@BUILT2KEEL thank you so much for the enlightenment message 🙏🕊️🙂 I'm learning to deal with my epilepsy day by day and my doctor 👨⚕️💊 prescribed me some new epilepsy sezuire call Zonisamide I been on it for 9 months it been doing me well 🙏🙂💯
@@babyscarr3 1st day on no phenytoin to bring my level down all good so far just a couple of strange feelings but could be me stressing too, tommorow again no phenytoin we will see
Day number two no phenytoin still good no seizures by morning my level should be safe to start on 300mg a day
@@babyscarr3 has 300mg a day worked for you?
Oh and dont forget liver damage im 32 and mines not good, 16year of taking this shit, but it works, 👍
Id love to hear if anyone has similar seizures so i dont feel alone with it
Dilantin has a functionally better effect for me than Phenytoin. Noticeably so.
It will be really helpful if you upload all your videos..i have thought many times to take subscription but i can't afford this much 🥲
