A hand tattoo and a Staffordshire bull terrier in the passenger seat, love it, it’s like watching original top gear episodes , keep it up Matt !
Thanks!
Isn’t it 💯🤮🤮
SQ eh? Is the "Q" shorthand for Cue Derbyshire Constabulary setting up speed cameras on the Chapel by-pass?
Original 1977 Top Gear 🤔
What a judge mental stereotyping clown. Certainly not the type of character I'd like to be around nor will I be watching any more of his subpar content
i'd argue that this "dated" interior is superior to modern stuff. I'd rather have buttons than doing everything through a gimmicky touch screen
I drive a van in work and you have to do everything with the screen... the stereo volume is the worst thing ever. Who gave that the A,ok? Need sacking.

Your scripting and delivery is one of the best. It’s amazing how you can get so much information over in a natural and humorous way. Impressive.
As an S5 driver with basically the same interior, I have to say that it's probably my favourite interior of all time. Such high quality and everything is in the right spot. Might get an SQ5 when I need more space.
I am trading my 2011 S5 Convertible for a 2016 SQ5 tomorrow for that exact reason - kids. Beautiful to drive and like you love the interior! It's solid as a rock!
Fabulous review as always Matt... I actually love the interior of this car. I honestly find that an older/dated for want of words look to the interior adds to the character and creates a kind of warm, fuzzy feeling. And a bit like sitting in your favourite armchair in front of a coal fire on a cold, snowy, icy winters evening, all snuggled up with a cup of bournVita with the added benefits of sitting in front of a 65 inch monitor, playing need for speed on my PS5.... I've honestly never looked at this vehicle as an option until this review Matt.
I'm on my second one ,first a 15 plate, now a 17 plate Plus+.... Upgraded everything, carbon fibre interior, push button start, keyless entry.. Euro cap 6+, more BHP & torque etc.. etc...fantastic SUV, it was the one of the last in the line before they went to the Mk2, so they threw everything at it... 😘
Hi, is it everything working like OEM related with engine start stop button and keyless entry ? And does this kind of upgrade cost too much ?
Thanks
@@yllimehmeti3755 Hi all OEM fully working , it such a long bucket list compared to my 15 plate.....21" OEM wheels, Reverse camera, heated rear seat, panoramic roof, ltd slip diff( Plus+ models only) full exterior De-chrome etc etc.... Prob cheaper to find a Plus+, with all the bells & whistles you want.
Great vid once again Matt! Seriously considered one of these when shopping for a family transporter but really struggled to find a decent spec for a good price. Like you said to many G'd out with fully killa black mags and heavy tint!! Definitely have aged really well, so holding out for a good one at a decent price!
Never even considered this as an option! Nice car! You're too used to modern cars Matt, I didn't think the interior was that bad tbh. I like the alcantara finish on the seats with Audi's.
The quality and design of Audi interiors is really good (I have an Audi now, my first, had several Volvo’s and BMW’s)
@@christian-van-e yep, for years Audi's have had the best interiors.
Not been in the most recent models but anything in this year range is decent inside
Audi has a long reputation for designing and making top interiors, in recent years BMW catched up after being in hibernation for almost 20 years. This car´s interior of course looks a bit updated and not only the infosystem is the same as in our Audi A6 (3.0 TDI Quattro Avant) from 2005. Had air suspension and what not (you even had to open glove department with a button). The problem of course is with modern cars is that there is so much electronics that many things can go wrong.
@@Kmasse8 the more features you have, the more that can go wrong. Doesn't matter if it's electronic or not.
Just got rid of my 2017 SQ5plus special edition, very last of that shape. Loved it for 2 years and never thought I’d sell. Now have a 14 plate L404 4.4 autobiography. Different gravy never going back. SQ5 was great car though.
Great review! I just bought a single owner 2016 Q5 TDI 3.0 hat had 92k km on the clock and I am absolutely in love with it! Coming from a Highline GSW I find the interior to be amazing! So far the mileage is spot on 7.5-8L/100km on mountain roads around where I live. I bet I could get down to the mid to high 6's in some flat country.
Always put a smile on my face when i see another suv. You know Matt family car, when most of the time one person is driving the vehicle. I can honestly say that i cannot remember the last time i saw a suv driven for the purpose of being a family car.
Enjoyed watching this. Mine is a 2015 and spec wise looks exactly like this. Glacier White, 21s, Pan roof but no carbon or B&O. Coming up to 52,000km ownership in 14 months.
I have a US spec a4 which is practically identical to this and I must say I love the interior. It’s just modern enough for me without being obnoxious and relying on big screens to disguise poor quality. Mine has an engine start button and smart key entry with nav, reverse camera, and Bluetooth audio… even if it’s old what more could a person really need? Love this generation of Audi
I have an SQ5 competition 326hp from 05-2017 this is my second one. It drives so comfortable. Most important everyday a smile on my face with this car
I have a V6 3.0 Q5 (2012). I've put just over 60,000 miles on it since new & had NO issues.
There aren't many cars I can say that about.
Rare for Audi
@@paulmcgee1867 Perhaps. It's the only Audi I've ever bought, so I really don't know. It's currently my work car (electrician) & still as good as new. I doubt I'll ever sell it.
I bought an Audi SQ7 about a year ago and I was blown away by it's performance and it's economy. It has air suspension so can get really low which helps it feel less "land yacht" and more "speedboat". But no matter how I drive or how I set the car up, i'm always reminded of it's weight, simply can't ignore it. That aside, it's fantastic at towing and overtaking is a breeze no matter the speed. FYI. No black wheels or wind deflectors or 3d plates and my dog goes in the boot where it belongs 🙂
That car is great
Nothing like an upload from High Peak Autos!
Your wry humour is spot on! Always gets a good chuckle from me 🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant Matt you didn't let me down on the stereotyping 👍 another brilliant review ☺️
Nice car Matt, thanks for sharing, and your editing time.
Used to have a 13 plate Q7 which we bought when it was 5 years old. The interior was very dated. I think because it was launched around 2006, a lot of the interior was of that era. Stuff from that period really didn't age well purely because technology advanced so quickly around that time.
I like " dated". It means you get proper instruments, proper buttons with no wretched touch screen menus, a proper handbrake and a proper manual gearbox. A car you can fix without needing a lottery win.
@Tim Hancock I agree in some respects Tim. Climate control 'buttons' on the touchscreen are ridiculous, a dial is much better. On our Tiguan you have to go 2 menus deep just to reset the trip mileage! A tiny button next to the trip mileage to reset it is far better. Modern design does at times feel so much like design over fuction/usability.
@@stuartday1876 I think the main problem is that I'm a bit dated these days Stuart 🥴
Matt great review. Also. I'm glad you mentioned how toilet those 3D reg plates look. 👍
Enjoying the content as always on the channel great variety of vehicles 👍👍👍
Always liked these, however last time my E220d was in for a service the Merc dealer lent me an E class estate which turned out to be a w213 E400d 4 matic. 330bhp, 700Nm of torque, and 50mpg if you took it steady. Utterly brilliant car, there’s a lot to be said for a big, powerful 4wd diesel estate.
No way 50mpg. My diesel with half the power struggles to get 45
@@Alexander_l322 Well you have to drive it carefully, lot's of coasting, slow speed and don't use breaks, and/or accelerator only if there is no other option.
You are sitting in a fast car, 0-60 in 4.5s and all the trucks are overtaking you. I don't think it's worth it. 40-45mpg is good enough with normal use.
I’ve had my SQ5 for just over a year now & can’t praise it enough. They really are stunning cars. Interesting to hear about the gearbox needing to be serviced at 80k. Thanks Matt 🫶🏽
Sq5 has a ZF gearbox, completely different to the one in the 2.0tdi.
Great vid - agree on the infotainment screen - too small and low res with old software. Can always fit an RS NAV though - that will bring it bang up to date with further upgrades possible (surround view etc)
Having just become an Audi driver a few weeks ago (TT - thankyou for you’re informative review of it :) ) I don’t think I’ve become particularly aggressive but since watching your video I was especially considerate this morning - let people out at junctions, didn’t drive up their rear end. That said I did flash some muppet for taking an age changing lane!! Oops 😂
I noticed that many SQ5 owners bought a Macan once their bookkeeper said they needed to buy a new car
All good thanks Matt, it answers one of my previous questions to you on your £5k auto video.
Hello Again, once more a very informative video, lots of technical info plus practical ownership points. Regards, RichardA.
Great vid as always. I sold my V8 S5 (which I loved) to get one of these. I don't regret it at all. Such an amazing all rounder.
Having had both I think you made the right decision
I’ve been waiting for this one!
Very thorough. Great video as usual
I have looked at these but for the money lack so many features like ACC that most run of the mill VW's have as standard. Cracking review Matt.
I LOVE this SQ5. great all-arounder. in south america we had the gas version V6T, with 354hp, sad thing is that almost all of them were armoured for daily use by rich people in big cities
I had an SQ5 Plus, came with keyless entry and push button start (no need to plug key in to start) quilted leather, heated/ cooled cup holders, b&o stereo, etc which made it much more modern, except for the MMI, which I agree is dated, but there are ways to upgrade that. Great all rounder.
Mine has all this spec, Glass roof also. Had for 4 years now and finding it a great car.
Sometimes the whole is so much greater than the sum of parts. This video is a perfect example and one of your best ones Matt.
You managed to hit the nail on the head! I’m considering one of these and yes I drive an S3 and yes it has 3D plates😂. However I’m sans tattoos and dog thankfully.
Great video thanks for the upload.
Love it when you don’t hold back Matt 😂 please don’t change👌 the best colour for a SQ5 family weapon.
Amazing cars, owned 2 of them, will have another some time! I had the Plus version, brought a plug and play TDI tuning box which took it to over 400bhp. I'm logging on to Autotrader!
I rented a 2018 A6 Avant in Germany in 2019 with the 3.0 TDI and it just never stopped and never ran out of breath, even at autobahn speeds it pulled like a freight train, I wish we got it in the states for more than a few years.
Had my 2016 plus edition for 13 months now and love it. It ticks all the boxes. Took it through europe last October and got 42mpg. An autobahn blast saw 150mph easily. I've had lots of different Audi and this is my favourite (excluding V10 RS6 saloon).
I have no wanting to change this car. Only gripe is the gearbox can get confused and chooses a lower gear when turning a corner where using the torque would have worked smoother.
Sounds good, maybe consider getting a dsg oil and filter change and a gearbox reset
Hi Matt,
I have been looking at these for the last 6 months, and have just found the right one.. Not Black with full tint, and I have no tatts.. Review timely and spot on, button start was an option, worth mentioning that the vital Pana Roof and Drive Select were both options and are missing on even some plus models, Great to hear that the 90k version you are driving was still running well. Excellent job as usual. Best Rgs Paul Woodford SK7
Had 2 now and currently running a 2016 plus (a little modified) and it is tremendous ! I love it. Oh and >40mpg if you tickle it.
Matt great video keep it up !! currently have a 2013 Audi S5 only done 22k miles baby on the way so think a SQ5 might be the way forward
Have always fancied one of these thanks for the video they look a great car
I've just bought at sq5 plus 2016 and it is great!
Great video Matt, for me was always a choice between this exact model Audi or the discovery sport. Ended up getting a discovery sport 2.2 diesel for the 5 + 2 seating arrangement and scare stories over the newer ingenium engine. The wife drives the car most the time, but maybe if I did it might have been the Audi we’ve would have ended up with 😜
good review as usual I have a 59 plate 3.0tdi S-line Q5 with 113000 miles on owned it 7 years never missed a beat plenty in the tank sir I love the lack of Tech and the dreaded DPF issues I don't have any tats and own a Boxer so nearly fit the profile. Great car glad I chose this and not the X5 I was looking at.
I have the A4 allroad 3.0V6 and was thinking this might be its replacement one day .. cheers for the overview
I have the A7 bitdi 2014 facelift (same engine). I agree that the display is a bit tired, but the quality of materials is very good. Had the 19 inch wheels (48 MPG in the long run) and swapped them for 21’s. (33 MPG). Big mistake and quite unconfortable 😅 Engine and gearbox, on the other hand, are top.
Great review Matt! Opinion on buying non ulez compliant cars now? I have been looking at sq5's for some time, but with the way things are moving against diesel engines in particular, would it be enough for you to not buy one?
Quite literally summed me up to a T back in the day - Went from an A7 Bi-T 'suddenly' finding myself with a child and ending up with a SQ5 albeit the next model up (2018). The A7 was perfect with a perfect engine until you realise everything child related is now oversized - car seat meant back seats were down to 1, pram meant you were almost down to 0 boot space.
Fantastic car (mine was the petrol version) balancing performance, practicality & safety all dressed with a fairly modern interior/exterior
Interesting video as usual. Didn’t think interior was bad at all. I’m old enough to remember old plates with raised numerals in the 70s: awkward to get the flies off when you’re washing the plates. Wipe clean plates were a brilliant idea . People fitting 3d plates is like going back to unsliced bread, loose tea instead of bags or non-automatic kettles, why would you?
metal pressed plates look much better on German cars in my opinion and last a life time compared to plastic plates.
Tea made from tea bags is disgusting.
@@lmtliam The 19th century called, they want you to come and hold Rees-Mogg's hat
@@matthewlewis2072 Gosh, you're so progressive and modern! With people of your genius it's a wonder the empire of the 19th century ever collapsed.
@@lmtliam it’s a free country to have your tea in any form you like, but loose tea is rather messy.
Amazing cars I've always wanted the sq5 but ended up getting the 3.0 TDI s line plus with full sq5 spec never looked back.
I’m just trading in my ‘23 plate S3 as it’s boring me and lacks any involvement for a ‘20 plate SQ5 diesel !
The SQ5 is awesome and puts a smile on my face again. Managed to get a fully loaded black one and can’t wait to pick it up next week. Great review and confirmed my decision.
Very good. I’d have done the same
I love your Social commentary Matt. So funny.
Just bought a 2016 sq5 plus......what a car!!!!!
3D reg plates, i'm with you 100%
The petrol alternative to this is the TFSIe 55, 2 litre hybrid with combined output of 362 bhp and 369 In ft torque.. I have a White S Line black edition with a much more up to date digital dash, diamond leather interior, pan roof and B&O sound system. I can honestly say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Well built, nice details, quick in all weathers and 40mpg all day long. After years of E/C class, 5 /4 series and 50k trouble free miles in the last 18 months it’s still an absolute pleasure to drive.
Retrofit carplay/android auto and the interior is perfect
Me in a Jag XF S and me in a Lexus LS430 are 2 different people completely. Definitely some cars out there that just make you a hooligan.
Your comments about the image could have come out of my mouth. Well done; a great review.
Glad you enjoyed it
I used to work with someone who had a Golf R with wind deflectors, 3D personalised plates and the temperament of an erectile dysfunctional Staffordshire Bull Terrier. For me, full fat Range Rover any day. Loving the content. 👍
Brilliant video. Very informative. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your work 👍
Nice one. The SQ5 is very discreet but cool.
I've a Q5 V6 Tdi and don't change , love it 🍻🇵🇹
I commented on the insta post. Only mod i did was get a stage 1 map. Wow that car flew. Do miss it but i also like having a clean driving licence
Had two of these and loved them, only reason for changing was I drove them like they were stolen, which really isn't me. The sound generators built into the exhaust system which you activate by putting the car into dynamic mode, didn't help much 😂.
Still interested in a review of the second generation Q7.
Also, reading various forums it's easy to get the impression that timing chain issues are fairly common och all the VAG 3.0 diesels.
Really helped me pull the trigger on an sq5 this video. Just picked up a 1 owner bog standard no aftermarket mods 63 plate with 34K miles 👌🏽
Any update? Does it sound nice?
@@stephenmellor2580 really impressed with it. Comfortable and fast. Sounds nice for a diesel 👌🏽
@@deanp127 that’s good to hear, I’m looking at an 18 plate one as I need a bigger car (current 3 series saloon 2018). Will be sad to see it go but the car is useless for prams! Have you heard of any issues with the sq5?
Hey Matt, Much love from Uganda 🇺🇬 big fun🔥
Thank you! All the best
My friend has had the diesel and the petrol sq5 and much prefers petrol the diesel had lag. Have to say interior is beautiful.. a dream car for me
I have a SQ5 which I managed to find unmolested with 32k miles, 1 owner from new last year. Best car I've owned. I've replaced the MMI with a touch screen to modernise the technology ie Android auto / Apple carplay
very good Revju, a very good SUV, perhaps the best in its class, and little has been written about it. Today, perhaps the best choice if you are thinking of buying a used car. I have been using it since 2014. exceeded 100000mil. problems: changed two poor shock absorbers, one engine mount, and a front bearing. Few cars can keep up with me on a winding mountain road, fantastic lay, no twisting, almost like a smaller sports car. If you drive it according to traffic regulations, you have consumption as you drive a Ford Fiesta
For £20k i would have 2015 Bmw M5. Monsterous engine and performance yet practical and luxurious. It’s the drivers car who has a family
That high figure, was of course exactly 70mph 😂
That’s right!
Stunning motor, perfect daily
MAT you have made my night shift with your stereotyping hilarious but 100% relatable
Any chance you can do some old, run of mill boring cars soon please Matt. Really enjoy those.
I didnt know that Audi produced an SQ5, so your video was very interesting.
I like the fact that the styling of this sportier model is subtle & flies under the radar. The engine is strong & seems to provide great performance (& sound!) from a diesel engine.
As you rightly pointed out, the only negative is the dated interior screen/controls, but I would still consider one at the right price.
Thanks for another great video with your usual high production values!👍🔥
Glad you liked it!
You must have been hiding under a rock?
So right about the reg plate! Hand tattoo so right too
If I had to have an SUV I think this would be on my shortlist - still looks quite fresh and sounds like a lot of fun to drive. The lack of a push button start and rear camera is just not good enough for what must be a top spec car - Audi's stingyness is annoying! Good review as usual and enjoy your amusing observations on life etc😃
I have a top spec 2015 SQ5 and mine has a push button start (full keyless entry) and rear camera, must be options at the time of original purchase.
I’m amazed how popular these are in Copenhagen, which generally has an anti-car culture. They are literally everywhere, and small wonder: they are practical, fairly cheap to run, reliable and have an amazing engine.
Those seats were a copy of my old Volvo s40 in leather and standard trim. Can’t buy into it unless it’s under 6k👍🏴Great content as always✔️
Registration plates...hand tattoo..aggressive dogs..Audi driver driving practically up your arsenal 🤣💯bloody excellent Matt 👌 👏
Interesting to see these across the pond! I was curious how it fits in Europe. I own one in Canada (also own an S3 so this all tracks except I don’t know what a 3D number plate is and mine are stock lol) so it has the supercharged petrol 3.0T but otherwise very similar. Just weird it doesn’t have a engine start button on that spec.
It is very much a proper theme episode...
This channel is superb .
Correct
Thanks guys
I had an M410i, then my son arrived.. Jumped ship and got a 65 plate SQ5. Loved the cars practicality and performance but the interior was super dated.. The arm rest squeeked like a b*tch and AUDI's MMI from that era was utter dog poop. Seats were comfy, and everything was where you'd expect it to be.
Now I have a 2014 Sorento KX-3 based on your review and I love it! Armrest doesn't creak at all.
Can literally hose the thing down and it's nice to not give 2 sh*ts about wrecking the interior as it's pretty damn durable!
Thanks for your recommendation and keep the reviews/trips coming! Great channel!
Matt.
Try this 2018 SQ5
Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI quattro 354 PS tiptronic petrol.
Bought this last year and I think all issues on the diesel have gone. Audi new SQ5s are back to diesel for some reason.
Hi Matt 👋, I can't believe that that has done 97000 miles it looks in Fantastic condition. If that have been a Ford or a Vauxhall or a Fiat with that mileage on it would have been scrapped that's what it cost so much in the first place built to last. Cheers Phil from Newark
Nice motor Matt👍
Brilliant video Matt thankyou ,can you buy a reverse camera do you know ? ,thanks Paul
Love the videos I to was looking at SQ5's about a year ago as we had a new family and were out growing our Audi A3 8V which we'd had for 5 years and done over 60k trouble free motoring. However with the car market what it was a year ago they were just a little out of budget. We ended up with a 2014 VW Tiguan R line 7s dsg 2.0tdi 180bhp with no joke every option was ticked from factory and had only done 23k with full VW history lovely car and very pleased with it however still would swap it for an SQ5 in a heart beat. We have had it a year just ticking over 32k so plenty of life left before needing a change.
They’re great cars too
Great video, Matt 👍. Really rate an SQ5, would love to own one lol 😆
Great video as always Matt, thanks. Perhaps what would be helpful if you compare the car with a similar size / spec car - one which is better than it and one its better than so we can use the Mattscale ™️ as a reference point?
Yep completely agree, the interiors have always put me off to. Same with the similar age A4 and A5, very dated now.
Its so sad there doing away with Deisel cars, when you see a video like this.
A very clean, un chaved example.
Being a Cockapo owner,i think a dog says a lot about you.
Loved it, Matt,looking sharp, too.
All the best,Sam
