She was yodeling when she was younger, and I think that helped her to try things with her voice that might seem strange to your typical singer.
Just in case you will choose to listen to Rechenka. Rechenka is translated as My sweet river. River is a symbol of life - it flows, but does not cradle (i.e. it changes all the time, but stays the same). Diana portrays a girl who is about to get married. She came down to the river, having left the house full of guests and meals for a while in order to cry, because she does not have a father nor a mother to bless her. To my understaning the whispering in the intro belongs to the spirit of the river asking her why is she not joyful. And the river boat at the coda means her embarking onto a new married life. Nice commentary. You should check out her amazing minor key Elvis cover she performed last Saturday on Russian Television at the age of 18. She has really grown as an artist since this cover of Wicked Game at the age of 15. Her vocal color, the power in her voice and her yodeling ability really makes her special. Diana's first album is supposed to break soon and she has published 3-4 original songs since the start of this year. She's currently enrolled as a student at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow.
Diana's vocal acrobatics are amazing and the arrangements made for her on this show were spectacular. An amazing reinterpretation of a classic song. I'm told she is a dramatic contralto. This show does not allow technological 'effects'. That's her real voice.😎

Hi, if you want to hear some other performance of Diana, please check "Reckenka" (little river, one year before), or "Derniere dance" (she can play in 5 different language). Two weeks ago she took part to new TV russian show and performed: Can't help falling in love. Thanks.
Yes like someone else recommended one of her latest is an Elvis Presley song (can’t help falling in love) but it’s shortened because she’s on a talent show. I must say though it sounds nothing like the original at all, the song is completely unrecognizable except for the words which she has repeated over and over throughout the song, I suppose for a lack of time. But one things for sure it definitely will blow you away, this young lady has such extreme versatility. Also another equally as good but different style is Angelina Jordan who has more versatility than any other female singer I’ve heard in my 68 years. You can’t be disappointed by either of these two artists.
PS. I have been watching Diana since she was 10 and there is no alterations on her voice everything you hear is her.

@@chrisspellman8545 , Diana's vocals are definitely "out of this world" in a sense that her genetic / physical disposition has gifted her with a voice that is unique (Contralto with resonance/overtones), and she's working hard to refine that voice in terms of technical ability, and she's got a musicality, sense for timing and artistic choices that is impeccable, but all the latter goes with Angelina as well, and I love her timbre (and her feeling for Jazz! - which is not that immanent with Diana who, as far as I know her work, is more into (folk/lyric) song and tribal style) - but it's true her vocal range is slightly more in that area you'd consider as "normal" whereas Diana is clearly "abnormal" (in the best possible way, still a "freak of nature"...) - I couldn't claim that I prefer one over the other, just love listening to both of them, depending on my mood... actually it's Diana "Bach composes" I'm listening to over and over... but might be Angelina if she released a new song tomorrow...❤️❤️

"It started with Blizzard, where I first felt her artistic power. And then Wicked Game.
Also, for sure, many are interested in the history of the creation of this issue. Well, in fact, you can tell a little, just the idea came to make this song and its sound immediately formed in my head.
On a project, we are always very tight on deadlines. This is the main problem. There are many participants, everyone needs to choose a suitable song, but there is no time. Plus, of course, if the participant is strong and has proven himself well, then the responsibility for the choice of the repertoire increases.
Diana picked up one song, we made a rough draft, showed it to our editor-in-chief, she rejected it. So we decided to take my idea with Wicked game into development.
It was necessary to quickly show some kind of rough solution and approve the song. In the morning I played it for myself, sang vocalizations, figured out the form and invited Diana to class. We twisted it a little, added something and made a record. The management approved the idea, and I sat down to arrange the arrangement. Then there were some edits, finishing touches, our music producer helped with the effects. And the vocal part, vocalizations, singing - all this was done by me and Diana in class, and in fact, no one but me was corrected. It was a great responsibility for me, because, in fact, for the first time, I was entrusted with making the whole song, and not just with a participant, but with the winner of the previous season.
It was both interesting and difficult for me to work with Diana. She is a rather closed person, she does not allow herself to come close and does not strive for friends herself. In any case, it was so with me.
I couldn’t figure it out, I didn’t quite understand it, perhaps. She is rather stingy with emotions, it is not always clear what she likes and what does not. But as for the music itself, she grasps quickly, and the result of this work, of course, more than pays for all the difficulties that one has to face.
What is her singularity as an artist, as a singer? Well, first of all, it's a voice. Undoubtedly. He is big, strong, rich, instantly recognizable and, at the same time, understandable and close to everyone, or, at least, to a large number of people. As a vocalist, she is completely devoid, perhaps, while she is devoid of some fashionable mannered tricks, she has a direct presentation with a huge, real, honest emotional content, all the more surprising that she is, in fact, still a child.
The problem with many young artists is that they are under the influence of the so-called "firm", English-speaking singers, hung from head to toe with melisma, some kind of splitting, rasping, and other seasonings. There are so many of them that the taste of the dish is not felt behind them. They hide their emotional emptiness and the weakness of the musical material with these odorants, but anyone who is accustomed to good vocals and good music immediately feels it. To be honest, I am extremely tired of such singing and I am sure that the overwhelming majority of listeners are no less tired. And now Diana is just a happy example of such an absolute disregard for these tendencies, most likely, intuitive disregard, and honest singing with full immersion in the imaginative world of the song. Combined with a huge, unusually beautiful voice, this makes for a truly disruptive effect.
I have witnessed this transformation of Diana several times. She sings in class. He just sings. Neither cold nor hot. I’m starting to get upset somehow. I say, why is it not so expressive? Well, the meaning is, perhaps, in other words. She replies: "so I sang without emotion" I say: "why?" Shrugs. “Come on now with emotion,” I say. And she includes something in herself, some register, or some option, and sings "with emotion." And it works overwhelmingly. Because they are two different people. I did not understand why she sings “without emotion”. But now, it seems to me, he began to guess. It's just that for her "emotion" is not tricks, not aspirations, not grimacing. It is really wasted emotionally while singing. Honestly, for real. This is her main strength, I think."

You are in for a great vocal journey with reactions to this young lady (now 18). She has several originals out (and numerous covers), and recently just dropped a jaw-dropping cover of Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love". Rechenka and Derniere Danse (both performed when she was 14) are what I would recommend next so that you can follow her progression more linearly. I've been listening to her for over a year now and I must say I have never heard such a unique and talented singer and performer...

The songs written for her are Russian, but can still be greatly appreciated by vocal technicians or neurolinguists. When she does the western music covers you often don't hear some of her main stylistic techniques. The major ones being minor harmonic scales, extremely deliberate descending glissandos, and yodeling. She is an expert yodeler and if you want to see that in action you can watch her performance of Rechenka.
Her best performance to date was last weekend. She covered Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love and, like this cover of Wicked Game, she transformed it into something else. It was also done in minor key and the arrangement is chilling. More of a descent of obsession into madness than a love song.
She has some interesting physiology that allows her to produce harmonics beyond just technique. I am pretty confident she has what is medically called a High Arched Palate. Think of a room with a normal height flat ceiling as most people's hard palate, but a person with a high arched palate has high vaulted ceilings like an old cathedral. She's very good at really accenting it, muting it, or taking it out.

Forgive me my ignorance. So you say that she actually has some original songs in her repertoire? I was just wondering why she has not yet signed a contract or something and when she is actually going to start a real carrier.
@@Euxiphipops77 She has already done shows as an independent artist. Even crowd funded her first small album. She was likely given advice not to seek out predatory contracts. If you thought Hollywood and the American Music Industry were bad then Russian show business is even worse. She's also still attending GITIS, which is sort of like Russia's Julliard School. She has to split her time between school and performing.

Enjoyed your take on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on CZcams.
Two weeks ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of CZcams 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation.

John, Diana Ankudinova was only 15 years old when this performance took place in May of 2019 during a vocal competition called "You Are Super!" which Diana won. This cover of Chris Isaak's classic "Wicked Game" now belongs to her. Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which in itself is a very rare talent and it's defined as a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds harmonic overtones and undertones that make it sound like two different voices at the same time. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakingly think she is using autotune, voice synthesizer or vocoder, or something else to artificially manipulate her voice. Others think there is another voice singing with her off stage, or she is singing over a pre-recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulation, pitch correction of Diana's voice going on at all. Other than the background sounds that augment the song and are clearly not Diana, who you actually hear singing "Wicked Game", is all Diana Ankudinova.
If you want other performances please give a listen to Diana Ankudinova singing "Rechenka", a Russian folk tale sung in Russian when Diana was 14 during the May 2018 competition of "You Are Super!", which again she won. There are a lot of unusual voices, but there is not many people who can use them to sing in the way to touch you. Dimash and Diana are just born to do that. Он сразу услышал важнейшие особенности голоса Дианы: не просто способность петь в низкой тесситуре, но петь при этом насыщенным, богатым тоном ( "восхитительно богатый голос" - amazingly rich voice). А также способность петь интенсивным звуком в средне-высокой тесситуре без вибрато, прямым голосом. Он назвал такое звучание "первобытным" (primal), но это именно комплимент, говорящий об её уникальности. Советую послушать её новую интерпретацию песни Элвиса Пресли. В ней Диана убедительно подтверждает все ваши комплименты.

The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian HTB channel, every saturday, where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform,
and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc.
So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves.
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",

As other's already wrote those truly remarkable sounds she makes are all hers, jodling, polyphonic harmonies, etc. Only small changes like bigger reverb and such were used to enhance the experience.

She is claasified as a type 3 Dark Contralto with polychrome overtures meaning her voice carries multiple tones.
She is 15here.
Her voice is so rare and we are privileged she happened in our life time.
No one to compare her to, past or present. Simply the Best
I’m sure someone will have told you already, but in case they haven’t- due to an extremely hard, sad early childhood, she had terrible difficulties speaking, stuttering, silence ect. A caseworker suggested to her foster parents to try singing lessons, which she started just before her 5 th birthday and has never really stopped. Hence the incredible control! I hope from the bottom of my heart she gets all she deserves!

Diana's cover of "I Can't Help Falling In Love" is a must, she's clearly done a lot of work on her range and her version is dark and beautiful, I believe she sings it in F minor, my best guess as I don't have your 'ear'

She was 15 here. She has the rare contralto female voice that I find addicting and unforgettable. It's been said that her unusual larynx creates a sound with polyphonic overtones. One in a billion. Hi John Henny Vocal Studio, Enjoyed your reaction and analysis to Wicked Game(Diana was 15yo), maybe you could also react to Diana(now 18yo) doing a Elvis Presley song(this was on 25 Sept 2021 - next show is 23 Oct 2021).
This was the first of 9 shows. Each contestant(9) gets to sing 1 song of 9 different 'genres/styles'. In this first show
Diana had to do a song from the Grammy Awards, next show someone else will have to do the Grammy.
The tenth person in the middle of the top row is a different guest each show.
The FULL video link below has 11 segments, the first is an intro to the show, the 9 that follow are all of the contestants
performing, the second last segment is Diana singing, and the last segment is the voting session.
No contestant can vote for themselves. The scoring points are from 2 to 9 and each point can only be given once in
every show. (NO Judges, voting done by contestants) (Guest also has 9 points and can issue as he/she wishes)
The contestants are as follows: 7 from the "Mask" show and 1 from the "Superstar"(Alica Mon) show, also 1 from the
"You Are Super"(Diana) show.
All three shows are from the HTB(NTV) tv channel.

Rechenka and her recent masterpiese, the cover of Elvis' old schmaltzy Can't Help Falling In Love show more of her artistic persolanity. Particularly the latter performance where she gives the song a completely different feel, and not only because it is reharmonized to a harmonic minor key.
I have to say it’s an interesting concoction here. Very interesting cover.
