It's not microphones, it's imitation of birds' cries.
She repeats the cries of the birds of Russia.
And she sings so poignantly because she was crushed as a child by her father and her mother almost drowned her. She's in a huge pain from that. And she wants to throw it out this pain and suffering. Now she has a different foster mother.

так и должно быть) Я считаю, что это уважение к работе исполнителя, а время для оваций во всяком шоу предусмотрено - после завершения выступления - делай, что хочешь (в рамках разумного): хлопай, свисти, кричи, неси цветы! Куда-то же людям надо деть ту энергию, что была им подарена выступлением)

Акапелла она обычно исполняет один куплет.Из её интервью-она не может исполнять эту песню целиком,очень много сил на это уходит,не успеет восстановиться.Полностью исполняет только на небольших концертах (3-4 песни).

I understand your annoyance about the clapping. Loreena McKennitt has strict rules about distractions of any kind during her concerts, and I agree with her. In principle. But this is a show for disadvantaged children and I absolutely will not be annoyed if children want to clap during the show. Anyway, Diana is impossibly talented and I think she has the most beautiful voice in the world. Oh, that "reverb effect" is not electronic. She sings with polyphonic overtones.

I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the scene, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.... Thank You for your reaction...

The song rechenka or little river, is a Russian folk song, even before Christianity, that an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. The song is about the fact that my mother, father and brothers were killed by the enemies, there is no one to take care of her.
There are about 30 variants of this song, but the basis of the content of each of the variants is the sad appeals of the orphan bride to her deceased parents, asking them for "blessings" and help for marriage, for a family to strangers.
There are other versions of this song, where the heroine appeals to her brothers, and even to her parents, with a call to return to earth in the form of a bird to her native home.
At the end of the song, the girl sails away to a strange tribe, to a strange family.
This song appeared before 900 AD, before the Russians sailed to conquer Constantinople and converted to Christianity. The roots of the song are in pagan Russia, it is a very, very old folk folklore.
And since Diana is an orphan herself, this topic is very close to her. When Diana sang this song, she was only 15 years old.

That yodel of hers never gets old. She is an expert at yodeling (not surprising for an eastern singer), but she does things with her break that other singers would shy away from. Helps that it is very low, too. I guess it's a combination of her unique timbre and how she very intentionally leans right through her break. The descending glissando is a very Slavic way of singing and I wish she utilized it more because it's unusual to hear someone to so deliberately move down like that. Good catch on the microtones. Her sound production is physiologically interesting coming from a (neuro)linguistics angle. I highly suspect she has what is called a High Arched Palate. ENTs and Neurologists look for it when assessing certain kinds of NMDs. It's a common feature in the medically defined body type Marfanoid Habitus. This isn't based so much on her singing as it is on her speaking voice in interviews. Consequently, if I'm right that smokey quality to her voice isn't because it's breathy so much as there is a large amount of space where her hard palate would normally be (because it is more like a high vaulted ceiling). Can also produce nasality that isn't really nasal. Some people with high arched palate have to get speech therapy due to how it can distort consonant and vowel sounds.

Interesting to compare this performance of 14yr old Diana to the 18yr old Diana doing Can’t Help Falling In Love. At 14, it’s all there, voice, looks, stage presence, dramatic ability. She made it clear in interviews and other video’s at that young age she was totally committed to the work required to developing her instrument to the fullest. Now watch the 18yr old deliver the goods. What will she be able to do at 25? Perhaps the answer is: will there be anything she won’t be able to do?

Согласна на счет аплодисментов. И когда иностранцы удивляются, почему на многих концертах люди сидят и никак не реагируют, не бегают, не свистят и прочее такое, то надо понимать, что это культура поведения во время исполнения. Знак уважения к актеру или певцу. Ну и, конечно, понимание, что другим хочется услышать певца, оркестр, хор, а не визги и хлопки рядом сидящих.
В общем, так ведут себя сейчас чаще в опере или на балете)

A short note: in Russian traditional singing, techniques of quarter-tone intonation and sharp jumps at large intervals, most often by a seventh or octave, are used. In Russian it is called "gukanye" and is found in ritual folklore.
i think that high note in the end is a typical "mourning whisper" in russian folk songs. Like, you scream just before fall on the grave or in hugs of death

I enjoy the analysis explaining the intricacies that the untrained (me) doesn't pick up on.. Its good to learn.... Personally, Ive usually seen the said video a billion times before I watch say... your reaction. So I don't care if the video is blurred nor do I care that you play it through without stopping.. I prefer the pauses to explain details.. as long as you back up far enough when you start replaying.. I think viewer retention would be longer if you spliced in your analysis through the video as opposed so saving the bulk of it for the end.. JMHO.. BTW she has an Epic new cover out.. The Council. Put Diana's name in the title of the video not only in English, but also in Russian ( Диана Анкудинова ). Views will increase significantly ;) Because there are a lot of people looking for her in Russian.
And they did the opposite on her newer song / cover (personal jesus) so when you search for it, all that pop up are reactions because they didn't put any English in the title

There is one thing I have to say is that Dimash and Diana are very unique and polar opposite. If Dimash's voice is untouched pure cosmic glacier coming from some Divine place then Diana's voice is like deep darkest abyss carrying all the mysteries of the earth! Both are mesmerizing 🥰❤️

Мне тоже очень нравится, как Диана показывает голосом, как далеко течет река и, что эта река спокойная, полноводная. Девушка говорит с рекой, жалуется ей на судьбу. В конечном итоге, становится понятно, что девушка с реки не вернётся. Этот момент не проговаривается в песне, это можно понять из ситуации. Девушку - сироту хотят выдать замуж против ее желания.
Brother, people enjoy to see people react to the artist's performance. Especially people with musical/vocal education. We love to see and hear other entertainers get blown away by our Diana. So during the performance and the pauses for commentary are the sort of heart of what we're looking for. Sometimes, speaking of reactors in general, the post performance commentary can be a bit redundant, which is probably why a lot of people drop off after that. Definitely don't take it personally. Just consider why her fans are watching in the first place: Diana. And secondly, to see someone's reaction to her amazing skills and talent.
