- “Lay Down Thy Raincoat And Groove” Some say the greatest ever Echo & The Bunnymen concert. Some say the world stopped spinning when the opening notes were played by Will Sergeant, only starting to spin again after the last notes of Do It Clean had been played. It was 1983, this is Echo & The Bunnymen playing live at the Albert Hall during the Ley Line Tour.

Discovering this band in 2024!❤Wow
... I was the exact 1,000th like on a cherished gem that should have a a million likes ... such a beautiful tour & performance
One of my fave all-time bands. To know they were making this music in the 70s and 80s makes them that much more impressive. I can listen to them today and it's still fresh.
🎯
At their absolute height here. They WERE the best band in the world at this point.
with the Smiths. The Sisters became the best ex aequo in 1985 and ceased to be the best the year after, since they ceased to exist.
U must be a superfan, Echo was top 20 in 1983, but Rush, the smiths, Big Country, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Van Halen, The police, U2, The Clash, Tears for Fears, Eurythmics, INXS, human league all better in 1983 for starters. I could go on but I don't have all day.
Absolutely, yes. This was the apex. No other band could touch them at this time, especially live.
give heid a big wobble...never near best band in world
Rush is one of the dullest group ever
My god, this version of “Over The Wall” is absolutely mind-bending! Hands down the best performance of said song I’ve ever heard. Damn.
One of the best band’s of the 80’s .Class performance .Still love there music now.
🎯
I was there, a young teenager, loved it ❤
Me too!
Me too. From Virginia, USA.
Me three. My first gig at 15. I cried the next day at the pure majesty of it all.
Yep to the right 10 rows from the front one of the concerts of my life
I ended up hanging with Ian in I think 2002 in San Fran post Bunny's Psychedelic Furs 2 header for 5 hours talking football and getting very drunk....top man...love him to pieces
The greatest live version of Zimbo ever Pete at his emotive drumming best and still very sadly missed, no one has ever played this as well as he used to.
The most underrated drummer of all time.
Pete was one of those drummers that really made you feel the impact of every beat.
There Is a copy of zimbo called "efecto dopler" of an argentinian band
@@Fancy_LebowskiWell said. That’s a very succinct and accurate way of rating Pete’s style. I’ve always summed him as “precise, powerful, and passionate”.
The best ever version of Zimbo live was at Sefton Park, it was amazing with Shankar playing.
This and Buxton. Even now I just go Wow! Such power, such delivery from the whole band as one! ….Never Stop!
This is why I've seen The Bunnymen more times (11) than any other band. Crocodiles is still the best debut album, ever.
I ´ve seen only 6 times :-(
2 Bunnys and 1 Mac solo
Our Brian is so cool. Bet you used to be a Prefect ( at school) too
@@royferguson3909 Here's hoping that the therapy you're receiving for your tiny d1ck goes well. Happy New Year!
Heaven up here for me.
best version of Never Stop I've heard - please let someone invent a time machine
Killing moon at this speed is maybe the best version
Wasn't into these till I seen them at Glasto 85.
Rain & Lasers!
I'm reading Will Sergeant's book, "Bunnyman" right now; I highly recommend it. And it is amazing to me just how phenomenal this band is and has always been. I've been a fan since 1980.
Damn! Les and Pete laid down some rock solid grooves!
Definitely a rock solid rhythm section. One of the best rhythm sections not only of the 80’s, but really in the entire history of rock/pop/post-punk/new wave/take-your-pick-of-labels.
I can totally understand why Les decided to call it quits at a certain point. As a bass player myself, I can say that if I had grown accustomed to playing with a drummer of Pete’s caliber, I’d be permanently spoiled/ruined for any other drummer.
Pete's drumming on All my colours...hairs standing up on back of my neck...
Mac's smile at the beginning of "Going Up" makes me giggle every time.
Love the Bunnymen.
I know it's been said numerous times already, but please, please, please release this epic concert on dvd & cd - it's a necessity for any Bunny fan 🐰🙏 ❤️
I totally agree I come here to listen to the version of Zimbo and end up listening to the whole concert, would love to have it on a high quality recording even if it was only CD version, as there's only ever going to be this video stereo recording no fancy DVD release sadly.
Best live version of Do It Clean!!
It is available on CD. It was released as a hard-to-find stand alone disc but before that as the bonus disc on the 2cd 'Deluxe' Ocean Rain in 2008. Copies still emerge on eBay from time to time. It doesn't have the encores of Heroin and Do It Clean but those tracks are on the Crystal Days box so you can get the entire performance. @@PlasticDemons
I was there & remember it well. My all-time favourite band & travelled the globe to see them...creative geniuses & still relevant. Oh, & as a bonus I can also catch a brief glimpse of myself on the video!
Just outstanding - went on the first night and was so good went again the next day ! Heaven
An amazing gig from a band at their most ferocious. Plus seeing the cute 80s girls is an added bonus.
I was at the gig the previous night, I still say it was the best concert of my life.
What a rhythm section!
Still my favorite concert video ever. I'd love to have it on DVD.
Both magical and majestic from easily the best band in the 80s So lay down your raincoat and groove I never get tied of seeing this
& 90s 00s 10s & 20s
@@officialechoandthebunnymen is right buddy
The Ocean Rain tour was really great!
Great to see this film in entirety , I fondly remember it in part on the “Pictures on my wall”. VHS I bought eons ago fabulous ,!
OMG! A band at peak power.
Yes, this definitely was the peak. This is some of the best live footage I’ve ever seen, of any band. No other band at this time in ‘83 could touch them. It’s just a damn shame that this has never been reissued in a DVD format, or at the very least as a live album.
All we need is love Love is all we need
Most definitely

Best "With a Hip"
The best band ever!
what. an. opening. salvo. wow.
Classic, incredible moment in time. Long live The #bunnymen
Still the best band in the world
Show de pura energia. infelizmente hoje falta um pouco desta pegada a banda.
Never stops
Clássicos dos clássicos.... o bom e velho echo e the bunnymen, com sua formação clássica: Will, Ian, Pet and Les....
I was there 👍
What a gig....
What a time to be young...
Still playing my Bunnymen vinyl and still loving it! 😎
As an old saddo I agree. I do glad I was young then and not now. Sorry kids, you truly missed out and there's no going back.
Pure class takes me back
one of my favorite albums ever
This is so badass......nothing like this now.....trend setters.....following their own path...
This early faster version of Killing Moon (20:20) is interesting. Maybe it’s just because I’m overly familiar with the official version that we all know and love, but I almost kind of like this stripped down, streamlined version more (and I absolutely *LOVE* the album/single version). It’s like my idea of what it would sound like had it been recorded for Crocodiles rather than Ocean Rain.
Untouchable.
Just brilliant!
this is way intense and it's 40 years old, imagine being some punter at this gig.
That’s not very imaginative.
Thank you very much. This concert is amazing. Became a Bunnymen fan after watching it.
I can smell the clove cigarettes in this video
Pete de Freitas R.I.P
Silver best song!
Fantastic
One of the best gigs ever - never realised you filmed it - was just incredible
Love to Will, Mac & the lot. 🖤
Love to you Pamela
I love watching how fast Ian's fingers work that fretboard in With A Hip. Yup, Im jealous. Not only do I lack that kind of skill (yet) but I have baby hands and short fingers 😢
Amei esse show, eu tenho Outros shows, mais esse auge dos Bunnymen
thank you! so beautiful! I hope you release this in bluray and LP and CD!!
Yeah can get it on cd it came out in2009 on the album ocean rain It was a bonus disk
Showzaço
They were from Liverpool, they had a guitarist with his own sound, a singer with a good haircut and attitude, plus a very good rhythm section, but they could never top their first album.
Bestest band ever from my hometown ❤️😊

It's Echo 😊
this is so powerful , moody, I love it. This concert released on dvd ?. I can't seem to find anything about this 1983 concert . The band is top form, all cylinders firing perfectly
Had it on vhs back in’t day
I know I've said this before, but... Super Pete's drumming is totally off the scale! :0)
Agreed!

too right!

Could be! Good catch!
Why is the show not available on CD or LP? If it is, it's impossible to find.
It really is a crime that this is still unavailable in any other format than the long out-of-press VHS cassette from the 80’s. This is some of the greatest live footage of any band ever, at the absolute pinnacle of their existence… and yet it’s almost impossible to obtain a copy. At least we have this upload. I’ll suffer the annoying ads if I have to.
Albert Hall revives to the smell of stale lager and hair spray. This was.
26:02 is this a ronettes reference? Ronettes mentioned?
Saw them in Inverness during this tour. Fantastic band, unfortunately, a really bad venue. I remember at one point Mac said, " I hope this a better ice rink than a... fucking, whatever".
I feel like that poor little orphan boy in Netflix Gotham
?
Is the bass out, or am I fucked up, again.
Who's the extra guitarist?
Mike Mooney
@@officialechoandthebunnymen Thank you! On Never Stop there's like an additional 5 players - strings, keys, percussion. Possible to get their names too?
@@charlielenk1677 Guitar Mike Mooney, Bongo’s Tim Whiticker, Keyboards Jake Brockman & Cello Adam Peters
I always thought this was like, the poshest audience I'd ever seen for a "rock band", I mean, look at @32:45 , @39:50 and @40:07 for example, they look like they belong at the last night of the Proms! It's as if all of Kensington and Chelsea's poshos ventured out for a bit of "rock n roll" at the Albert Hall. It's full of Sloane Rangers !
I can see clearly now the reign is gone. The age of Aquarius has ended. Ding dong the witch is dead and all that jazz I wish someone would have suggested to put out a hat
