- What’s the difference between DIRECT and INDIRECT/REPORTED speech? In this grammar lesson, you will learn how these types of sentences are constructed, with lots of examples to illustrate. I’ll also show how there is usually a difference of verb tense between the two. Both forms are used in everyday life, in speaking and in writing, so it’s well worth getting to know how they work. And after watching the video, you can double-check your understanding by trying the quiz over on www.engvid.com/learn-english-...

I really hope i pass my test on this tmr. This really helped!
In Russian there is no sequence of tenses, but after English I started to use it in Russian too uncontiously and I get corrected by others. If I say in Russian, "She said her name was ...", Russian speakers would correct me, "She said her name IS ... as she is still alive". Imagine the difference.
Awesome method of teaching mam❤
Thanks a lot, Gill🙏💗

謝謝!
Hello, Gill ! it's been a while ! are you fine your healthy ?
Hello Gill, great lesson as always thanks!
This is how I was taught. I'm 49 year-old from Sweden.
However I find that younger people often get confused by quotation marks in text.
That is because the use of air quotes, which is making quotation marks in the air to indicate irony, sarcasm or derision.
If you say that someone is a legend and make air quotes with your fingers before saying legend it means that the person is not a legend.
Question is the another way of writing question marks in
order to seperate them from air quotes?
THANK YOU SO MUCH❤❤❤
basic but important grammar, thank you miss,

Dear Ma'am Gill,
I have liked your lesson on Direct and Indirect speech !
Could you please cite an example to make it clear how ' must ' changes to ' had to ' in the Indirect speech ?
Just an amateur lifelong english speaker here. I think must always shows some compulsion by events. So...I must finish this project before Friday. I had to finish the project before Friday. Or...I must tidy up before my guests arrive. I had to tidy up before my guests arrived. Hope that helps.
I m 11 and u gust made me smarter thanks
I am hugely impressed by your parlance, voice and clarity in your lesson...😂❤
