Such an underrated song. It's incredible how she mimics the rappers single with her own vocalization. And the notes at the end reflect how she is crying and wailing. Songwriting here is amazing and she literally paved the road for every artist nowadays that sings pop with hip hop or rap
Her lyrics are so dope.... itâs the vocabulary that does it for me.
Mariah Carey, on an interview about this song, said it was suggested to her to do a song with them. So when they met up she wanted them to go, "Break, break down..." on the hook. Then Krayzie swiftly added, "steady breaking me on down" and she was blown. She also pointed out how she opted to modify her sound to fit theirs because it was so unique and she also drew the interviewers awareness to how artistes were already copying their style, R&B artistes and Hip-Hop artists alike. This song, I believe, was in 97 (if I'm not wrong) and the baseline of the song sounds like that from "Tha Crossroad"; but besides that, it tells of how long the Bone style has been imitated and yet they still don't get props (damn shame). The other version of this song is called the MoThug Remix with the same song title. On that version, Layzie Bone starts the song and Wish and Krayzie have longer versions of their versions on this song. It's the MoThug remix that I actually heard first on radio and it is very harmonic, it's an upgrade of this version, I wish they also made a video for that one. This song jump started the Mariah Carey-Bone Thugs-N-Harmony collaborations and they are all lit.
Good breakdown... no pun intended lol
BEAUTIFUL BREAKDOWN!!!!! â ïžâ ïžâ ïžâ ïžâ ïž
@@AlexA-de7is She also altered her style on Say Something to fit Pharrell's production style which was really interesting. Breakdown is one of my all-time favs too
1998
Stevie J made the beat too
Her best song IMO. The runs she does are outlandish good.
I agree fully đ
One of my absolute favorites from her but criminally underrated compared to the rest of her discography.
Mariah is the G.O.A.T.. Breakdown is a smash!!! Bro, you gotta hear Mariah's "Migrate" ft T-Pain or "So Lonely" ft Twista
Mariah said she will always be upset that this song never got to top the charts like her other songs have, especially since this is one of her favorites of the Butterfly album, which she considers her best.
You didnât comment on the lyrics... lyrically this song is also amazing â Iâm trying to be nonchalant about it Iâm going to extremes to prove Iâm fine with out you but, Iâm reality Iâm slowly losing my mind underneath disguise of smile gradually Iâm dying inside friends ask me how I feel and I lie convincingly cause I donât want to reveal the fact that Iâm suffering so I wear my disguises til I go home at turn down all the lights then I break down and cryâ only a true lyrical genius can write lyrics and song them so beautifully that Anyone whoâs ever gone through a heart break can relate. PS love all your Mariah Reactions btw đđŒđ
Exactly i thinks with the Roof, Breakdown has the most incredible lyrics đŠ
Mariah has a genuine love for hip hop and she has done many collaborations with hip hop artist. Mariah is very multifaceted with her music. She has a song with Mobb Deep called The Roof. It samples Mobb Deep's shook ones you should check it out.
Mariah Carey -the roof ft Mobb Deep
Mariah Carey -Crybaby ft Snoop
Keep up the great videos đ„đ
(Btw that was Redman as the magician lol)
Great recommendation. The Roof remix f/ Mobb Deep is still one of my top 3 Mariah tracks. Ever. "I Still Believe" f/ Krayzie is a must review. BTW, Mariah + Krayzie had insane chemistry in the booth. And yes, Mariah is a huge fan of BTNH.
The lyrics on this song is just out of this world. đ„
Some of Mariah's R&B songs with this vibe -"Babydoll", "The Roof", "The One", "Heartbreaker remix", "Honey remix", "Thank god I found you remix (make it last)"
all bops
definitely babydoll
The other Breakdown is a Remix with Extended verses from Krayzie and Wish plus a Layzie verse
Bone thugs-n-harmony - Lil' Love (featuring Mariah Carey, and Bow Wow.
Jack Reacts make sure itâs the âMoâ Thug Remixâ thatâs the one with extended Krayzie, Wish, and Layzie Bone verses
Mariah Carey's music was never the same after she first recorded music with BTNH. Her music after was had more of a quick harmonic flow to it. Once you notice it, you cant unnotice it
EXACTLY!!! These guys really made 2 genre change their pace and flow
I mean technically her first song sounding like this was Long Ago, that was on the Daydream album. But she has always had the fast harmonic flow even on her Debut album (Prisoner in specific)
@@chanellopezzzz true but Bone Thugs was the reason for her totally switching it up
Mariah Carey the legendđ
Since you like this song, you should react to these Mariah songs:
Giving Me Life Ft. Slick Rick and Blood Orange
Thank God I Found You ft. Joe, Nas (Make It Last Remix)
Mariah Carey - Crybaby ft. Snoop Dogg
I still believe / pure imagination ft. krayzie bone
Jack Reacts yessss giving me life is from her latest album caution from 2018
What is absolutely heavenly about watching your reactions to Mariah is that you really get it!! You really seem to get Mariah and see what we see! Iâve been a lamb since I was 10 in 1994 and watching you react to Mariahs songs for the first time and just getting it immediately is just such a pleasure to watch! I get so excited for young people to appreciate Mariah and watching you hear this for the first time is just amazing!
This is one of my favorite song of Mariah. And believe me I wasnât a fan of her in the beginning but I fell in love with her voice... its just beautiful! I love her now
This is gotta be in top 10 favorite songs of all time. The lyrics and vocals and beat.
Do krayzie bone ft Mariah I still believe
Fasho that's a classic
@@JackReacts904 Good choice. This is one of the rare cases where I'd suggest that you don't do the video version. The album version is far superior.
Jack Reacts was literally gunna comment this song too shits đ„đ„
Yes I was just going to recommend that one
YES! I was just about to post the same thing
This a classic beat
Most of Mariah Carey's hip hop remixes are really good. She's collaborated with many rappers and their labels like Badboy (Honey), Westside Connection (Irresistable), So So def (My All) (Always Be My Baby) Jada Kiss (We Belong Together) (You Make Me Wanna), Both versions of Heartbreaker remixes, O.D.B (Fantasy) etc.. You'll be a bigger fan of hers after you listen to all of these and more.
She wanted to sound like Bone so like Biggie she switched up her style for the song. Now do the remix.
The Remix Wish and Krayzie verses are longer and Layzie has a verse
look how gorgeous our queen 1997 â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
The Song Bird Supreme according to Guinness
#legend
#icon
#queen
This was a huge record for mariah. The album came out feb of 1997 and this came out march 22nd 1998!
She wrote and produced this in tribute for BoneThugs & Harmonyâs style.
Sheâs written and produced 99% of all her songs.
I recommend her song the roof featuring Mobb Deep which she sampled one of her favourite songs Shook Ones part 2.
Sheâs had a lot of influence in hip hop rap and is responsible for many of the biggest rap Godâs careers in opening doors for them. Sheâs used a lot of hip hop samples.
Stevie J produced this....
@@doatytaj True but Diddy and Mariah are also listed as producers
Youâve rekindled my love for this song! I listened to this every day when it first came out. Best Mariah feature ever...
Krayzie Bone feat Mariah Carey - I Still Believe.
Off Krayzie''s solo album Thug Mentality 1999.
INSTANT CLASSIC!!!!!đ„đ„đ„đ„
One of my favorite songs in the early 20's. It was on heavy rotation in my dorm room..lol
This is the first vidĂ©o of mariah that jack reacted to in his channelđâđł
@@JackReacts904 yeah đ i still remember that time đđđđ
This is the first time I come across your channel and that's my first watch to one of your reaction videos. I am somebody who grew up in Cairo, Egypt during the 90s, and I have been listening to Mariah since 1997. I can affirm that she 's got many bops, you should probably go through her discography and discover more. She is impeccable. Her latest album Caution was purely R&B.
Mariah is a beast, i think sheâs crazy as hell đ but her countless hits are UNDENIABLE!! Jermaine Dupri took her from an R&B princess to a queen!
This is my all time favorite Mariah song. This is the song that made me a Mariah fan. Been a fan for 20+ years. If you like this one, listen to Mariah and Bone Thugs Lil Love...anytime Mariah and Bone Thugs collab, the song is always đ„
That's my new theme song - 10/10!
đđđđđđ
This song is landmark Hip hop cuz she doesn't just have guest rappers she actually adapts to BT&H style to enhance THE SONG, making this one of the best, & most elegant collaboration in hip hop history. Every song on Butterfly is a unique masterpiece & this is arguably the best.
Great reaction, subbed.
And yes, she looks absolutely beautiful here. She took inspiration from the play/movie "Cabaret."
Homie your breakdowns are simply the best u are ahead of your time!
This my fave song from her because of the vocals sound personal
Bro if you love this song, check out âThe Roofâ, her voice is basically angelic in R&B music. đ The song itself, is a badass example of her amazing R&B side .
Jack Reacts âđ»đâđ»
I like this version better. Krayzies and Wishs verses are shorter but they're fire
Check out Mariah, Snoop, Pharrell- Say Something. You get a little of everything vocally and rap-wise. And Mariah at her absolute finest
Mariah Carey and Phil Collins-are unofficial bone members. she said in an interview that she was infatuated with bone Thugs and their flow. She was amazed at how they could rap and sing so fast and so good. She also mentioned that Bone is her favorite rap groups
Phil Collins?!
That's my shit there. Yea the other version bone got longer verses and layzie is also on it can't go wrong with either version. Krayzie bone it's all real from art of war has somewhat of an r&b vibe to it
react to her album Butterfly. It's literally the bible
This song is a classic. Still listening to it 20 plus years later
Anyone else peep Redman in the video? Heâs the magician
Resurrection, cypher, I tried, if I could teach the world, look into my eyes and ghetto cowboy for fun(itâs actually more of a mo thugs song though)
Yeah ghetto cowboy before there was lil nasđđđ
Loved your reaction, subscribed!
One of my top 5 fav song all time
The lyrics is perfect mariah did well in this track
Youâre so cute. Mariah been fire since forever and she has so many bangers. This is just a glimpse !!! Sheâs the Queen of Pop meets Rap.
A couple of my favourite Mariah collaborations you may like
1. Mariah ft. Busta Rhymes - I Know What You Want
2. Mariah ft. T.I. - Loving You Long Time
3. Mariah ft. Jermain Dupri - Get Your Number
4. Mariah ft. Snoop Dogg - Say Something
She's the greatest songwriter
The lyrics is dope, i know the feeling. đ
Always be my baby and we belong together are my top two fave Mariah songs, but this might be third. Definitely top 5. This song is a VIBE. Decades later.
Sir ! No you did NOT do a reaction to one of my absolute favorite songs of ALL TIME đ±
Best song in her discography
Keep doing your thing, Jack! Loving the genuine reactions to these classics, it's literally how I felt the first time I heard these songs as well. Props! Check out Da Brat featuring Krayzie Bone - Let's All Get High.
Mo thugs - thug devotion đ„
@@JackReacts904II Tru feat Layzie- Ghetto Bluez
Layzie Bone this aint livin, and Poetic Hustlaz. Day n Night
The same producer Stevie J that produced Notorious Thugs produced this song the way those harmonies between Mariah an Bone thugs start blending at 5:08 is magical
still one of my favorite tracks. Mariah is an OG to me. She had another track with bone thugs from their strength and loyalty album called "lil love" produced by Jermaine Dupri... that also features Bow Wow. She also had an unreleased track with them called "Don't forget about us (remix)" which also has juelz santana on the track. And "I still believe" from Krazyie's Bones' Thug Mentality album, also two versions of that one.
Yea I heard somewhere she was always a huge fan of bone thugs and she used the way they harmonized and flowed regularly or something like that. Everyone wished they sounded like bone thugs, back then and now
Thanks much for reacting to our queen. I did not skip any ads for you. Please react to Sabrina Claudioâs Stand still â€ïž sheâa literally a goddess please please! đ
After this song Mariah changed the landscape of rnb since then...†I love her
Iâve been waiting for someone to do this song. And I had a pretty good idea I was going to find it here!
Yes! Been waiting on you doing this one, only cuz I noticed you doing a lot of Bone Thugs and Mariah videos. I knew you'd like this collab.
My favourite Mariah Carey song! That music video is stunning!!
Thanks Jack!
i love this song! prob one of my fave MC song... i learned the word nonchalant from this song haha!
Mariah- Canât let go. This, Butterfly, and Breakdown are my top songs from her, though she has other great songs. I also like both versions of Thank God I Found You.
"this might be my new favorite so far ' love to hear that after every Mariah review. As a lamb and I've listened to everything multiple times. I am still amazed at the new things found in her music. The vocal and stacking layering is unmatched.
I forgot how dope this song and video were. I also forgot Redman was in the video as the magician (you need to start listening to his music on the channel, too).
Bizzy was PISSED when they started doing features with R&B artists, so he skipped almost all these types of songs.
Most underrated Mariah song ever!!!!
Mariah is an enormous artist. This is one of my face songs of hers. And she writes her own material.
Bone Thugs featuring Mariah and Lil Bow Wow- Lil LOVE
Love your channel Jack! Jack reacts is by far the BEST channel!
She has a song with Joe and Nas
"Thank god I found you" I listen to it till this day, dope
Bone thugs- handle the vibe, let the law end, see me shine, meet me in the sky, no shorts no losses, shotz to da double glock, crept and we came.
She said she study krayzie bone she has another song with him at the da brat
Read the lyrics to this song, it hits hard. Alot of ppl who went through a breakup feel this.
i think i heard on an interview bone helped her write to have those cadences.
You should try to react Mariahâs âthe roofâ. Similar vibe to breakdown.
One of my favs
The lyrics are amazing
Glad you reacted to this. This is one of her best r&b songs if not the best. This is the first real r&b soul track she ever made. Love this song so much. Please react to a more recent r&b hip hop song of hers. "Truimphant" feat rick ross and meek mill and My Love feat. The dream. Thanks babe. đđđđ
Please react to:
Caution - Mariah Carey
GTFO - Mariah Carey
The distance - Mariah Carey
With you - Mariah Carey
Are from her new album Caution (2018)
This my ish. Especially because I love me some Bone Thug n harmonyđđŸđđŸđ„đ„đ„đ„
She also directed this video. Next do the Always Be My Baby Remix. She used to re-sing her vocals for hip hop mixes and dance mixes of her singles. There is no one like her.

Congrats đđŸ 1000 subs
You should do this the same way you did Crossroads, where you do the regular one and then the remix. With the remix, Krayzie and Wish have longer verses and Layzie has a verse. -And I notice people saying to do the song âI Still Believeâ, if you do that song, you gotta do the remix of it that appeared on Krayzieâs album. The regular song is Mariah Carey featuring Krayzie Bone and Da Brat, but Da Bratâs verse ruins the song. Krayzie and Mariah are going back and forth the whole song all smooth and harmonic, and Brat comes in all rough and just throws the whole vibe off. The remix that appears on Krayzieâs album is the same exact song, only Da Bratâs verse is replaced with another verse from Krayzie. So if you do happen to do that song, itâs gotta be the remix.
Growing up this was my favourite mariah song
I played this shit on repeat for soo long when it came out. đđœđđœđđœ
So many feels!!
My reaction was the same way! This song is my new favorite, got a nice beat, the words make sense and I'm jamming!
One of my favourite Mariah songs. Stunning.
Your reaction at 5:51 onwards is the same as mine every time I listen to this song.
That note - so full of emotion.
Really refreshing to see such a genuine, heartfelt reaction.
You should listen to Lead the Way from the Glitter Soundtrack ( a masterpiece ) & Stay the Night & Say Somethin' ( feat Snoop Dogg ) from The Emancipation of MiMi too.
I'm glad you reacted to this one. One of my favorites from Mariah PERIOTD! lol She said in an interview it was the most challenging songs she's ever had to sing. I still fund that hard to believe with those notes she hits but I'm not singing it so what do I know! I love the layered vocals and the lyrics
Krayzie Bone - That's That Bone Ft. Wish Bone this shit fire
I love this vibe Mariah, 1 of my fave ever Mariah song , with âcry babyâ thank god (ft. Joe), donât forget about us...
a lot going on in this song & video.....but are we not gonna talk about these INCREDIBLE LYRICS?!?! too funny cuz being that, like me, u seem to truly appreciate when artists take the time to sing SUCH thought provoking lyrics, i thought sure u would be blown away by the lyrics to this song -- meanwhile, the lyrics were the only thing u DIDN'T touch on, LOL! oh well. glad you enjoyed it anyway. ~ b.
Shotz to tha Double Glock - BTNH, off the E. 1999 Eternal album. Just to let you know, Graveyard Shift and Poetic Hustlaz are featured in that track. They are Mo Thug artists who are affiliated with Bone
This album was 1 of the best i literally have the CD she signed on release day.
Yo! Thank you so much for someone of your age appreciating this type of music. I'm 33 and got to enjoy it in the day. Keep it up and I'll be sharing! Yo Mariah was FIRE.
1.1k subs, solid jack, something to be proud of for sure, keep it pushin
She really broke ground with the hip/hop and rap collabs back in the day. Video by the legendary Diane Martel.
not sure if someone's mentioned this already, but I remember she mentioned in an interview that she actually wrote this song and she was inspired by Bone Thugs n Harmony. So she was like, Hey, why not get them to collab w me on this cuz it does sound like them?
P.S. super cute seeing you slowly becoming a lamb!!!
@@JackReacts904 You're welcome!!! Just started really getting into Mariah 2 years ago and there's still so much idk! This fandom has a LOT of trivia to share XD
