Bone Thugs are living legends!! They are very versatile and very very unique. They do hardcore thug rap but they do smooth songs like this too. Dont deprive yourself, listen to some Bone Thugs. Only group to work with Notorious BIG, 2Pac, Eazy E and Big Pun while they were alive. So many classics. Not sure if you only like smooth songs like this or rap too but Bone has a huge core fanbase that will bring you likes and suggestions. They’ve been putting out music for over 27 years and I guarentee you’ve never heard music quite like Bone Thugs! First 3 albums are full of classics

Mariah is a studio genius with the way she stacks and harmonizes her vocals. She needs no background singers. I have always loved this song and how she switched up her style of singing in parts to match the melodic kind of flow Bone Thugs were known for and it fit so well. She is also a great songwriter which she doesn't get enough credit for.

Yes! The way it's layered, it feels like each part is meant to represent a different part of her psyche. The main melody of pleasant high notes is "her," with the birds chirping and pleasant high notes and stuff representing her "disguise" of feeling fine. Meanwhile the rappers who keep popping in feel like that subconscious reminder that she needs to admit reality in order to heal, but she's running away from them. Then the breakdown of the song is where reality catches up with her, and her adlibs til the end are her grappling with reality (literally her "breaking down") and finally going through her full emotional moment.
Bone Thugs N Harmony are Wish Bone, Krayzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Layzie Bone and Flesh N Bone. They're mentor was legendary rapper Eazy-E who also signed them to his label Ruthless Records. But unfortunately Eazy-E died from aids back in the 90's. Bone Thugs song "Crossroads" is about him. And yes Bone Thugs rap with a little bit of harmony, hence the name of the group.
