    Maybe you accounted for this and I missed it, but the train in Spider-Man 2 was still under full acceleration. No only were there no brakes, but the train still had full power which meant Spider-Man wasn't just fighting the weight of the train he was fighting the strength of the train's engine. It's the difference between turning your car off at 80 mph on the highway and seeing how much force it takes to bring it to a stop and putting your car in cruise control at 80 mph and seeing how much force it takes to stop.

      Cafe & Beyond Films If that were the case, then the train wouldn't have stopped. It would have kept going after Peter passed out. The train obviously stopped accelerating after hitting 80 mph, meaning that the engine likely broke down around that speed. The amount of force required was likely even less than estimated due to the friction of the tracks, but even discounting friction, it's a pretty shitty fear for Spider-Man, who has done much more in the comics (such as catching an armored car and breaking multiple 1ft thick doc ock tentacles made of a metal that's almost as durable as adamantium with his bear hands). Honestly, 10 tons is extremely weak for Spider-Man.

      Gray Fullbuster No, it broke beforehand. That's why it stopped speeding up at 80 mph. Plus, those trains aren't built to go that fast. It clearly broke down under its own stress. And it would have derailed if it went any faster.
      The calculation is accurate. The train feat is only in the 10 ton range, which is consistent with Sony's habit of heavily nerfing Spider-Man characters in the movies (to the point that Garfield struggled to even hold up a car).
      Listen, Spider-Man 2 had a phenomenal story, but Raimi's Spider-Man isn't physically impressive compared to the MCU and comics versions of the character. He was hit hard by the live action nerf gun.

    Here's some math I did on my own:
    The trains in the movie were filmed in Chicago on the CTA
    Single car: 26,000 kg
    Max speed: 30.56 m/s
    I count 5 cars; so five 26,000 kg cars moving at 30.56 m/s
    The train accelerated to its maximum speed from service speed in about 2 seconds
    F=ma
    F=(5 cars*26,000 kg) ((30.56-24.7)/2s)
    F = 380,900 N
    Pressure = Force/Area
    Tobey maguire is 1.72 meters tall
    Arm span is about equal to height
    Area = 2.96 m2
    In order to stop the train he must resist it with a force that’s at least equal
    380,900 N / 2.96 m2
    Pressure is about 128,682 pascals
    The force of the train would be about in pounds is about 87877.8
    Which is about 43.9 tons
    I probably did stuff incorrectly but oh well

    Gripe. When you compare the train scene to tom’s ferry scene from homecoming, you seem to be ignoring many different variables. Firstl you forgot about the people’s weight during the train scene. Secondly as far as I recall Tom only holds the ferry for around 5 seconds, while Toby held the train for as you counted 48 seconds, which as you know the longer you hold a heavy weight, the more taxing and difficult it becomes to support. Thirdly, you overlooked the fact that homecoming Spider-Man shot many of his incredibly strong webs onto the main supports of the ship, meaning that Tom is only supporting a small fraction of the ships weight. While all your math is correct, it’s just a few small details which makes each of the scenes more or less impressive. Thanks for reading, you have earned my like

    Hey, I just came across your video, I think you should take into account the ppl inside the trains in the train stop to have a more accurate mass. Also I think you should analyze his feat at the end of Spider-Man 2 where he caught a massive wall of iron and, while he was carrying it, he also prevented it from being pulled by the minisun’s gravitational force, I think it has the potential to be a greater feat. Loved the video btw, great analysis.

    This video is amazing, i really like to watch calculations of scaling characters and from now i already watched dozens of your videos and i liked each one. Recently i saw a scale to him for a feat u didnt used, the metal wall he lifted in the final of SM2, Tobey holds back a metal wall that was attracted by the fusion reactor despite being extremely weakened + screaming internally. The Fusion reactor was at 1000 mega watts the first time it was activated. In the final battle, the fusion reactor had been on much longer than befoore, meaning it had surprassed 1000 megawatts + it was rapidly accelerating (the 1000 megawatts was stated in the novel). Using a converter 1000 megawatts = 1000000N = 100.361 Kiloton, so using VS Battle tiering system, he did a Large Town Level of Feat, obviously not all energy is transferred to the gravitational store, but the reactor was accelerating, pulling cars from across the city. This aligns to large town level energy, could be slightly higher, Tobey was also extremely weakened

    Not even gonna mention the fact he took like 5 slams from a giant sand fist against a steel beam while being choked by venom’s “webbing” and still survived?

  • @dirtyfighters7751
    @dirtyfighters7751 Před 2 lety +2

    The final calculation is so incorrect it's comical. First of all, Venom's webbing couldn't even support MJ's weight as there were many times where she'd fall down and snap the webs apart in the process. So does that mean Peter can't even lift MJ orrrrr...? Secondly, both of Maguire's hands were tied by individual strands of webbing, meaning that Tobey was, if anything, supporting 13 tons on each hand. Meaning that his top strength is double your final calculation if anything (26 tons). But even then, considering the fact that even at the end of the fight with Venom he still managed to tear out of his webbing (after being brutally beaten against steel beams by a building-sized Sandman and being strangled against the beam by Venom, who's much stronger than him), and at the start of the fight when he did the same thing without tiring himself out much at all, goes to show that his max strength probably much surpasses 26 tons if anything. Thirdly, Holland's ferry feat is unreliable. If you analyse the footage, you can see that the ferry broke apart at the same rates prior to Holland's intervention, meaning he didn't do much (or anything) at all. We all know that Maguire actually stopped the train in the end. Fourthly, you said Raimiverse Spider-Man, so why did you end up only streamlining the research to the movies version and exclude the games, novels, and comics? In those source material, Maguire's strength much surpasses 13 or 26 tons.
    But even outside of your final calculation, you excluded some other things. Like the fact that Maguire scales to Otto's arms, which were shown to be easily capable of tearing apart solid brick and even pull apart a steel vault door, which was built to withstand tank rockets at close-range (putting it at 23.6 MJ (not Mary Janes; MegaJoules); 0.25-2 tons; Small Building-Level). Or how Goblin's pumpkin bombs could outright reduce people to ashes (putting them at similar scaling to 0.25-2 tons; Small Building-Level). Maguire's Spider-Man not only tanked 1 to the face (unlike Harry, it didn't scar half of his face), but then survived being brutally pummeled by Goblin who ranked close to Maguire's Spider-Man. Or how about how he tanked ¬7 overhead hammer-fists by the building-sized Sandman and after New Goblin helped him up, he didn't seem to be restrained at all. Then there's the large wall he threw at the end of Spider-Man 2. He threw the wall while it was under the gravitational influence of Otto's sun, which was described (and shown) to be capable of sucking everything that wasn't tied-down in NYC. Meaning that the force necessary to overpower the influence would be around 300 billion Joules, or City Block-Level+ (this is, of course, an inconsistent feat since we don't see many moments of Maguire doing crazy stuff like this in the films, novels, games, or comics). He's FAR stronger than just merely 13 or 26 tons...

    I think one thing you forgot one other thing and it may prove he's the strongest spider-man out the three we've seen so far. Before the subway fight, Doc Ock and Spider-Man are fighting on a clock tower. I don't have incredible math skills but I have incredible common sense. So to put the fight in a nutshell, Spider-Man falls off the clock tower along with one of the arms for the clock. Spider-man catches the arm with his web and throws it at Doc Ock. He caught the arm and threw it (and I'm just guessing) 60 to 80 mph. To make an object go from 0 to 60 in an instant takes a lot of force. And the impact the arm made the concrete on the clock to shatter and impale the clocktower spire. Do Ock then took the arm that was thrown at him, teared it into two and threw it back to Spider-Man. And I'm guessing he threw it around the same speed or a little less. And Spider-Man just kicks them as if they were a wad of paper. And those arms are made out of iron. I may be wrong so please correct me. Thank you for reading this. :)
