Also, always interested in how well is puts out heat. I have a small outdoor fireplace and we like to use it in winter. It's nice to be out there in the snow with a fireplace right there, and the heat the fireplace gives off is as important as how it looks for us. I was getting ready to play someone to build me an outdoor fire place. Not now. I might get them to set the base. Now I’m just going to pay them to paint my house. Thx.
Hi, this looks amazing. Could you please advise on the shape of chimney? Is it necessary to have this shape with bricks coming in like a cone shape? Would it be problematic to build a straight tall block?
You can build a straight chimney. Keep in mind, if your chimney hole is large, it's probably gonna draft wrong. Could get lots of smoke blowing back down.
Did you compensate for the thickness of the angle iron under the one section of pavers? Didn't the next level of pavers become unlevel from front to back because of the angle iron lifting the front row of pavers up?
I’m going to give this a try but I have “iron angle” questions lol What size are the iron angles? 72”? That’s the size I plan to use but there are different thicknesses of the angle irons…my thought was get the thickest one I hope it holds 🙏🏻 You explained this in a way that I think I can to it! And I want to do it I’ve always wanted one. Thank you 😊
How many pavers do i need to purchase for fireplace? Not counting the base cinder blocks. I have a concrete pad to set it on. Thank you, and very cool project!
Nice job, I plan to do mine in the next week or so. Do you find that the chimney is high enough so the smoke doesn't blow back on you or do you build it in a spot taking into consideration which way the wind typically blows? Thanks!
I made the overall height about 7 feet. Of course location is a factor. Mine draws really good. But if smoke coming back out is s problem, higher chimney will fix it. Good luck on yours. Definitely get lots of enjoyment out of it.
Hi, love your work. My question is: I can't get 4" pavers. Can I use 2"? What do you recommend the configuration be? And how many? Please and thanks. Ann
Honestly, i wouldnt recommend using 2 inch. I wouldn't think they would hold up to heat well at all. But if you did decide to use em, stacking them flat would be the only real choice. You can see an example of this in the keebler tree pizza oven video i just posted. I stacked those flat. I appreciate you watching my videos. Let me know if you have any more questions. Ill help any way i can.
Is it necessary to start narrowing the chimney hole right above fire box? I'd like to keep the width the same for several feet above the fire box so to mount a tv. Thoiughts?
If I plan to plaster the outside with cement can I use regular cinder block instead of a bunch of these smaller blocks you used? I think you mentioned you chose these for looks, but if I use mostly cinder blocks would that compromise the strength integrity?
Hi!! What is the size of this fireplace? How would I do it, to make an arched opening? Can these be mortared together, or would you use the hollow bricks, if mortaring?
Inside of the fireplace is probably 2 and a half foot square. Yes you can mortar it if you wanted too. To do a arched opening, you will need to build a wooden form. Then mortar the brick on top of it. Then remove your form after its dried.
This is great thanks so much for making this video. Do you think it would be easy to adapt this plan to build a larger fireplace? Any considerations to think about if someone was to try to do this method for a wider one? Thanks again!
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 Thank you so much for the quick reply and for all of your help! Excited to give this a try. One follow up question... I have young kids around. Is liquid nails adequate to keep everything secure and is there any heat concerns with the liquid nails closer to the fire? Harmful fumes or anything like that? Any advice on making sure it's stable enough for a rogue child trying to climb it is greatly appreciated!
They make high temp liquid nails. Ive used it before and works great. For this fireplace, i didnt use any. Its all dry stacked. But no, you dont have to worry about any fumes. As for kids playing on it..... its concrete blocks. No worry about the fireplace falling at all, but them falling and hitting a head on it wouldnt be good. My kids are grown. If they fall on it, they would prob crack a brick...lol
Hey, I saw your video where you put a stucco on it dry stacked...how is it holding up? Im going to use fuze it and fire brick inside with stucco mix on outside but Im worried the stucco will break off in time. What do you think?
I didnt use stucco. I used a cement mix. 1 part Portland cement to 3 parts sand. Its held up great. No chips or cracks. Im working on another fireplace video where im going to show different ways of using cement mix to design a fireplace any way you can imagine.
Looking forward to your next instructional video. I’m thinking about trying to make a simple contemporary linear fire pit/fireplace. That is smaller for my back patio. You’ve inspired me.
Can I make it smaller or does that mess it up? Could you please tell me the approximate outside measurements? Im thinking it’s about 40 inches deep front to back?? I have a small back porch. I was thinking about doing a linear one but I don’t know if it would work without cutting anything. I don’t want to bother with tools.
Thank you for responding! Your a genius. A good teacher makes it easy. Your a good teacher. Also so many folks over build everything. I like your style.

Add another row to your chimney.

What temperature can the center blocks withstand? My knowledge of those is they explode when put under high temperature??
Ive had temps of 2500 degrees and they havent.
Not a good idea to build a fire if the bricks are wet.
Did you line the inside with anything or the cap blocks are good and won’t crack?
Nothing lined. As long as you never build a fire on wet concrete or stones, your fine.
Can I overlay brick and mortar on top of this? Wanting to build something similar near our patio.
Yes you can
are the blocks you used for building materials "aerated concrete" ?
Thats one question i honestly dont know. Never thought to check into that.
You can go as big and wide as you like with this design. Thanks for watching.
Id use 2 inch angle iron if i was goin to go wider.
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 thank you again!
What kind of ground prep did you do ?
Leveled the ground then added a small amount of sand as a base
Can I make it smaller or does that mess it up? Could you please tell me the approximate outside measurements? Im thinking it’s about 40 inches deep front to back?? I have a small back porch. I was thinking about doing a linear one but I don’t know if it would work without cutting anything. I don’t want to bother with tools.
I dont think you can go much smaller then this without losing strength in your walls.
Thank you for responding! Your a genius. A good teacher makes it easy. Your a good teacher. Also so many folks over build everything. I like your style.
@@praywithme-godanswerspraye3423 Thank you very much. Let me know if you ever have any questions.
Where do you get the iron rods that you set the blocks on in the front?
You can pick em up at lowes or home depot
Hi there do you have to use cement or no more nails glue or is it ok to leave it stacked? Xx
Mine is just stacked
Can not wait to do it in our garden thanks for the video have a great day from the cunningham family in the UK 🇬🇧
@@MultiKd123 awesome. Hope yall enjoy it for years. Greetings from Texas.
Does this still work for you? Has any damage occurred? Would it be better to line the whole inside with fire brick?
Absolutely. Still goin really good. If you want to spend the money, you could do the inside with fire brick
No issues with pavers cracking under heat ?
None.
Like any concrete, don't build a fire when it's wet
i've looked several times....what size angle iron did you use?
1 1/4 or 1 1/2 angle iron will work. Lowes and home depot sell em in 4ft sticks
