I'm almost 61 years of age, and have been a self-employed carpenter for 30 of those years. You have learned your trade well, and that's not all that common today. Great job!
I watched part 1 just before watching this. Both are really well done with good information and none of the fluff and ego that so many videos are plagued with. I can highly recommend these to anyone wanting to learn about this aspect of masonry. Thank you for posting them.
My father was a master Mason, I was always amazed at how you guys did your work. Amazing looking fireplace and home. Just beautiful, really enjoyed watching.
Luke...You are a rarity to see these day! I challenge you to do another series brother! You have the knowledge, skill and an audience that wants to learn the right way. Great video; Great Job!!!
This guy has forgotten more than I'll learn in the next 20 years, A true craftsman in every sense of the word.... I wish I had this skill to try out a fireplace in my new home...
You are an incredible craftsman! Superb job. I’m having a fireplace/wood fired oven built right now and I have started to watch how others have tackled similar projects. I’m sure that you never lack for work and have an excellent reputation wherever you live. Best wishes!
Excellent instructional video. I would probably never tackle something as large as this project but the tips are memory worthy, J bolt for cleaning the mortar joints, Old carpet for cleaning the firebrick and duct tape on a finger for first aid which I've used in the past, whatever works! Mr. Huckabee you are a artist as well as a craftsman, thank you!
Reminds me of working with the old man I'm 3rd generation Mason now dad is retired grandpa is gone. You're the real deal, jack lines, no gloves, crick level 👌 leather handle rose trowl. Verified Master passing his legacy on.
Great Video Luke. I'm not sure I can even remember some of the tricks and common sense knowledge you givere here, the things that make brick and masonry work more an art than a trade. I learned a lot watching you... many thanks.
Brother, you are the Charlie Daniels of chimney building. Great to see a father and son working together. Fun fact** hall of Famer receiver Jerry Rice got his "soft hands" because his father built chimneys, and his dad would throw the brick up to Jerry on the scaffold. His dad would never look up, just get the next brick and toss it up. Jerry smiled and said he never dropped a brick. Thanks for a great video.
Brickie guys are alway huge. Look at the size of his hands. He actually lifted that fire place 🔥 in complete one go. :). Fun aside good advice and thanks for sharing.
Even if you were not looking for a video to watch to help demonstrate how to lay stone everyone should take the time and watch this one. It will teach you to appreciate and see what true talent goes into building something like that. A very enjoyable and educational video.
Work to admire. And best thing to see your son seems to catch up with what you are doing. There´s so much sissy pseudo academic occupational therapy nowadays and it gets harder and harder to find a real craftsman, even if you are willing to pay what their work and dedication is worth. Thumbs up!
I too think you are true craftsman. I love how you share you knowledge with others. I share this video with my masonry class, but I have to caution my students to take heed about not wearing a dust mask and not wearing safety glasses while cutting any masonry.
That man is still built like a brick house. I bet he was a beast in the 80's and 90's. I love to see these career trades men do their amazing skills. I myself am a framer. But wish at times, I would have been a brick man. These true craftsmen used to be everywhere, now they don't know how looked up to they really are.
I just have to say I hope you dont stop making these. As a fellow craftsman journeying out from his trade to others we need more examples of your skill to properly understand. Way to go Brother!!!
Awesome explaining on the process to build that chimney/fireplace I've been holding back in how to do mine. Now with your tutorial I can take it by the horns. Other videos talk about having a throat and a kung for the smoke to not return to the opening is that required with a offset like u did on the inside? Thanks 👍
Thank you for these videos. I'd love the opportunity to work with a man with your knowledge for a while so I could pick up this trade. Great work guys.
Amazing video! can't wait to start building my fireplace.....was it just me or was anyone else really hoping you'd Hulk Hogan the shit out of your shit at the end LMAO.
Much respect-I love learning new tricks and the hanging string lines I will put to good use. How many work days this take you and your son?it was a big project for 2 people but I also prefer me and a good helper.i get more done then trying to babysit the jobsite. Good work 💪👍💪👍💪👍
Old school true craftsman who knows his shit. Plus teaching his Son a trade that will never be replaced by a Klaus Schlaub or Elon Robot. This is something that can’t be taught out if a text book. Well done my Man great job . Now enjoy a cold one in that Texas heat .

I can watch this all day. Great job!
Nice job man! Probably the best video I've seen showing all the steps to building a fireplace.
I have to say you sir are an outstanding mason, very particular of how it should look and planned it perfectly, i wish I had your talent congrats.
Unbelievable……so talented. Such a hard physical job and rare to find people like that these days

A true craftsman at work. Glad to see he is passing on his knowledge to his son. Like the duct tape bandage on his finger - hardcore!!
Luke...You are a rarity to see these day! I challenge you to do another series brother! You have the knowledge, skill and an audience that wants to learn the right way.
Great video; Great Job!!!
I would work for you for free on my days off, this knowledge is payment enough. Much respect.
A smart work ethic is always preceded by ambition and hunger. Stay hungry my friend!
This guy has forgotten more than I'll learn in the next 20 years, A true craftsman in every sense of the word.... I wish I had this skill to try out a fireplace in my new home...

Absolutely. This is true art and craftsmanship caught on film. I hope his boy is paying close attention because you can’t learn this overnight.
Great Video Luke. I'm not sure I can even remember some of the tricks and common sense knowledge you givere here, the things that make brick and masonry work more an art than a trade. I learned a lot watching you... many thanks.
You're a fantastic mason. I've been looking for a video on how to build a proper fireplace and you nailed it. Thank you.
Awesome job! I’m a mason myself and I can say that’s some great craftsmanship

Wow! This was great and it helped me to understand the construction. Thank you!
Great job 👍 and tips 👍 especially checking that damper at the end of every day for falling mud. Cool two part series.
You don't have to do it every day just throw sand once the dumper is on and clean it when you done , unless you are really messy mason
