Ya know when I was young I wanted to fly jets and do what pilots do. However I allowed things to side track me and dad signed me into Army at 17 with a GED I just wanted to go away from home. After doing my 3 years I got out and was blessed with a good job , I retire this August with 35 years and full medical . During that time I attended easy hundred Airshows around Sacramento and while stationed in Germany. Talked to many many aircrew and love building models with that one wish of being able to fly. Well went to the airport did a bunch of GA flying and I can honestly say god bless America I never became a fighter pilot as I experienced panic attacks last cpl flights and am happy to know people like Jell-O Mover Mooch Hazzard Gonkey and of course Starbaby from the F-4G days we’re in it to win it. Keep up the great content Vincent it is much appreciated and now to complete this GR-4 Tornado cockpit while I listen😎

I applied to the RAAF back in 1997 and was bounced on my family's medical history. I passed every other test they had.
Flying an F-18 is all I ever wanted to do since I was 13 years old. Studied hard in school. Trained in the gym every week with someone my neighbour recommended... my neighbour was an RAAF F-18 pilot. I still didn't make it based on something I couldn't control. My parents medicals.

I am almost 100% certain that this is the southern route that F18’s take out of NAS Lemoore where they go up the Kern River and drop down into the Owens Valley. Fantastic video, the real thing beats the …. out of the Top Gun movie!
A really nice touch was threading through “THE NEEDLES” for that pull over (is that the correct term?).
When the video cut off the jet was heading across the Owens Valley towards “Star Wars Canyon”. This route has an official navy designation but I wonder if they always thread the “NEEDLES”.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Sidewinder Low Level Route (Rev 2) with JEDI Transition was developed to standardize low level training for DoD operations within the R-2508 Complex and is for local use only. This route is not a published military training route (MIR).
    All points will be flown sequentially, ie. A, B, C.. M or C, J, K...M, etc.
    Opposite direction flight is prohibited.
    • Aircrews must comply with R-2508 Complex noise sensitive area requirements IAW paragraph 2.4 of this handbook.
Aircrews entering the Sidewinder LL via Point A must avoid Lake Isabella and swrounding communities.

It was bugging me and if you google “The Needles” which are in California and are on the official training route the pictures are a 100% match. Also in the official accident report for the F-18 crash in Rainbow Canyon (Star Wars) outlines this route but I can’t find a link.
Anyway it doesn’t matter, it is the video that is outstanding but I was just getting a more vicarious response if it was.

I was going to ask to confirm until I saw this post. Not so much by air but definitely by ground familiarity, this seems to be the Kern River, north of Kernville, tracing the kern river up to the headwater near the Golden Trout Wilderness and over to the Whitney side. Bad-ass representation of what I've seen going down while in Kernville or running a mountain bike ride up towards Sherman Peak. I've seen a lot of F/A18's dropping into the canyons on a northbound trek, north of K'ville. Always thought it would be a blast to do it but I can't pedal the C172 fast enough to make it really enjoyable! 😂

The Sidewinder Low Level Route (Rev 2) with JEDI Transition is definitely a great name. (The video doesn’t get to the JEDI Transition I think as I thought that was in the Star Wars Canyon area unless that is what the transition from Sidewinder to Star Wars is called).
A great name for the video would be “Threading the Needles on the Sidewinder ‘EXTRA’ Low Level into JEDI Transition”!
Please ask your friend how many times he flew this route before the video was made, it is just a thing of beauty with how low and fast with all the anticipation set ups for the next turn. There is no way that could have been done the first time as this route is so long.

Yes, JEDI is across the Owens Dry Lake. The the accident report that I took this from stated “JEDI TRANSITION”, so that might suggest the transition BETWEEN Sidewinder to JEDI which was the route the accident with the F-18 that flew Sidewinder and then transitioned to the JEDI entry to Star Wars Canyon into Rainbow Canyon which is where the crash was. That terminology was specifically named in the accident report along with detailed maps with waypoints that were explanatory but that particular “phraseology” of “JEDI transition” seemed to suggest that that was the area crossing the Owens Dry Lake. Anyway that was my interpretation and I thought I was trying to state the difference between JEDI transition vs JEDI.
The distance between the end of the video and Star Wars Canyon is approximately 30 miles or about 3 to 4 minutes flight time if I remember the terrain from the last time I was there.

@@socalairshowreview7410 Incorrect. The Jedi Transition starts at Point Charlie and runs to Point Juliet. This video ends a few seconds shy of Point Charlie which is very close to Cartago, CA.

Idk man I’m obviously not a fighter pilot but my guess is that you would have to (from time to time) check your own confidence when flying these things. I was a truck driver 18 wheels 53 foot trailers and when you get confident you tend to make mistakes. Idk if that translates over to being a pilot especially a fighter pilot at the speed, precision, and consistency of their movements. Vice verse as well cause some days you just have a little off feeling.. it takes longer than it does to get warmed up to the vehicle, your seat just don’t feel right your shifts aren’t as smooth as they always are..(in my case operating a big vehicle that I can potentially kill ppl with very easily; the odd feeling is not a good feeling) so I can’t imagine how much of a shittier of a feeling that must be if these guys and girls experience the same thing LOL
