Great interview as always sir, i have an uncle who served on a destroyer in Vietnam and love hearing some of the stories he has shared. Thank you Shylock for sharing and thank you Jello for having him on.
Please keep these coming. These stories never get old.
That was some awesome footage and seeing them fly through the mountains looked so cool. The F-14 is definitely one of the best birds to ever fly. Such a sexy plane
In terms of the disrespect the government and certain citizens treated these American hero’s during and after their courageous service. Is absolutely disgusting. I know of nothing more important than these men telling their stories and getting their due respect accolades and thank you’s for their service to this countries history. These men won the Vietnam war and the abhorent politicians in Washington forced our demise in this conflict. These videos should be mandatory for any of our children’s high school education. We must be truthful through education if our young erst we risk losing the history and reasons for our place in the world . And sacrafices made for these kids and their future freedoms America affords them. Thank You to Shylock and all Vietnam aviators. Great video keep ‘em coming!
Wow! What a great interview. I hope you gave him a big hug when you finished.
Another great presentation. Thank you.
As always a good listen.
Welcome home air sailor, thank you...
Jello you need to get Col Fred J. Cone, he was an A-6 driver during Vietnam. Navy Cross winner.
Any idea where to find him?
@@FighterPilotPodcast last I heard he was a Professor at Embry Riddle in Prescott AZ. Folks at the Pima Air Museum might know
@@FighterPilotPodcast I dropped an email at questions@fighterpilot… with a phone number that could be current.
Sounds almost exactly like the flight of the intruder story!
Right!
Surprised about the reaction when Brian Shul was mentioned.
Super hornet?
He didn’t fly those.
Great movie!
The SR 71B model is on display in Palmdale plus the engine is on display plus other Aircraft I spent at least two hours walking around it's free. Amazing
Awesome episode now I know who did the tower fly by. 😀
I was waiting for somebody to tell the USN / USMC A-6 story in Vietnam, Thank You Jello
You're welcome, John. This is one of many stories, but a poignant one.
Bozo is so right about the start of up the movie being the best viewing of carrier ops, it's what got me to want to get into the Navy. Sadly motorcycle accident prevented that. These are great stories, can't imagine how proud your kids and grandkids are telling their friends these stories.
Thank you for producing timeless film. Was this film to be shown in IMax, Boss' thoughts were humbling and wise beyond his rank.
Your mutha award story is slightly wrong the award was created by Vf--124 flying then the F-8 crusader the award was given to F-8 squadrons. Then one day they ran out of F -8's. Then 124 continued the traditions through the tomcat squadrons. This award was only a west coast thing until VF 101 continued the tradition. Only then was it given to the east coast
Has Sam flown helicopters ? even a few times ?
Good question. As stated, he piloted C-2 Greyhounds (an airplane) in the fleet.
Double thumbs up.
Thank you thank you
Sounds like the F-14 was the better hot-rod / duelist and the Hornet the better warplane, ala Tiger v Sherman.
The bravery of aircrew flying those missions is something that I will never be able to comprehend. You always hear about the "Greatest" generation but surely the time has come for America to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifices made regardless of the decade or conflict.
Agreed.
Great leader and a great human being. If you can, inspire your kids to be a Captain Crozier.
Arny’s core ideals are adorable. As a Growler pilot it was great to deploy, get on station, and fly off the boat just about every day. Go share those with the “dunnage specialists”
I just read that VX-9 stood up in 1993 combining VX-4 and VX-5 and ran the 4 A, 3 B and 4 D variants of the F-14. That had to be quite a unique situation. Old seat with face curtains and the D with the new seat with the crotch only handle. PW and GE engines oh the MX guys must have been the cream. I remember fleet guys talking about dropping their first JDAMs en route to theater for Iraq 03. The Navy wasn't going to miss out on those JDAM only targets of night 1. Not possible without the hard work of all these VX-9 guys.
I need a smoke! The BIG fighter was awesome. Those GE motors really helped the Tomcat.
25:14 that rudder and stick sync is just outstanding, the plane didnt roll even 1 degree
7:06 thinking this plane will be in the Digital Combat Simulator almost gives me the chills because my father is a A7 Retired pilot from the Portuguese Air force in Lages field Azores. tx for this interview was pure Gold, well is better than Gold because is about human desires and feelings
this is GOLD. and maybe because of Captain Greg 8 countries have the F-18
👍
Very enjoyable interview Sir.
You look like Eino Grön.
Is that good?
Brilliant episode.
Thanks.
Thank you for your service and your efforts in making MY STILL FAVORITE MOVIE! I'm guessing Lt. Stephens didn't get his nickname "Organ" by having a big heart. Right? I'm sure he's a great guy too.😂
I was based at CHULAI Vietnam in 1966-67 and worked on the arresting gear and catapult that Lt Col was talking about. We had over 20,000 landings with A4’s and F4’s while I had my tour of 19 months. I left Vietnam in December of 67 just before the TED offensive took place.
Seeing how large that explosion was on the tank, would it be fair to say that the drones Ukrainians are using to achieve the same but with less equipment, is better? Footage I've seen usually have a direct hit carrying rpg warheads, and disables the tank with one or sometimes two hits. The resources spent is so much lower, and the efficiency seems to my eyes higher. No need for a maintenance crew, no need for multi million equipment, no risk of pilot and operators lives. Are drones gonna be the future over aircrafts some day?
Hope this comes out on 4K and Blue Ray disk. Watched it on Prime already.
Although some development happened on Lightning, its flaws and failures were in large part due to that. Duncan Sandys has a lot to answer for. Despite that, it was a plane that at the very least, measured up to the century series planes quite well. Which is no mean feat.
So proud 🇮🇹
3:26 Chicken Alfredo……… 😂
The best fighter EVER!
Cool video!
I loved it !!!! THANK YOU !!
Watched this on Prime last night. With my former life as a Navy Man on a carrier, USS Ranger CV-61 in V-3. This was 91-93. The first Top Gun Movie. After watching this I said to my partner THIS IS A HUGE RECRUITMENT SHOW.
Who was fat Tom Cruise in this video? Cuz that resemblance was wild.
Top Gun Movie Question.. after his Mig scare, Cougar turned in his wings. Can a pilot do that? What would be the ramifications for Cougar in real life. Would he have the ability to transfer to ASW or AWACS, or such?
Flying is a voluntary profession so they cannot make him fly. Would probably be transferred to a staff to wait out his time until he could get out of the Navy.
Damn that's good shit man, thanks.
The movie Top Gun was a favorite on the USS Ranger in 1987
