  • In this episode of Tough Rules & Cool Interactions, I will be talking about one of the new cards from MH3 called Necrodominance and how there is a slightly confusing point in time at which you will no longer be able to respond to the cards being drawn, players may not know about this and so to help reduce confusion in a game I have made this video to hopefully help some of you all out.

    Saw your little message in the description. I think the card I'm most excited for from MH3 is actualy a series of cards, hope that's not cheating. It's all the new MDFC lands. There are so many good ones with solid effects, and thr mono color ones can enter untapped for life which is amazing!

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah, there are a lot of them. I like the new mono green one that is like Disciple of Bolas that can get you a lot of card draw and life gain.

    Thank you for the very good explanation - I had this the opposite way, but it makes sense that the "trigger" is the beginning of the step, the rest is just the resolution.

      @@ThisIsACommanderChannel I wonder if they could have modified this card in a way that makes the Thief/Bowmasters surprise work. Something like an activated ability that can only be activated as you're moving to the end step that says:
      `Pay X Life: Draw X cards`
      It'd be going into weird territory between the phases, though.

      @@josephg279 I have wanted to do some videos for a while on Rule 0 type stuff. Like suggestions to improve your games that aren't strictly gameplay related. @ThisIsACommanderChannel I'd still watch it but I'd be more interested in the channel's true intentions. What I think would be cool if you did this for every episode. It's the simple reminder plus the coaching of how to present said cool rule interaction to the pod

    In some of your videos, you do the post-credits bit and I find it interesting because you can tell you're going off script in those and your cadence changes. It's just cool how you can tell that you're talking a very specific way for the complex parts of the video covering rules and then you talk more casually for that stuff at the end.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci

      For sure, the talking at the end is pretty much how I do normally talk. I do slow down and try to enunciate more during the rules stuff because this stuff is already confusing enough, so I don't want the talking to add any confusion.

    I think Arna Kennerüd is the commander I am most excited for from MH3, I have always wanted to build a bestow deck and it will probably be trash but that is okay. I think for a non commander card, it is Urza's Cave. For one, it is another Urza land which is cool, but a land that let's you search for any land to the field is very cool.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That would be really cool, Bestow doesn't have a lot of support outside of general Enchantress stuff. The Bestow cards themselves aren't all too powerful. Good luck with that if you make it. And yes, I will be running that Cave in at least 3 decks of mine.

    I'm excited for Disa the Relentless and all the goyfs she brings to the table. Lots of fun trying to figure out which cards of what type I want, trying to fit in Battles and Kindred spells which I've never run before (barring Bitterblossom). I feel like 5 minimum of each card type should be a good starting number for getting as many types in the graveyard as possible.
    Would be great if I could pull off the TarmoBolt "glitch" but I'm pretty sure my pod is smart enough to not fall for that.

      Disa is such a an Un-set card. Creating a Tarmagoyf TOKEN, what wild text. She seems like she could be very powerful if she ever gets more support because is such an easy way to cheat the cost on some goyfs.

    This would have really messed me up in a game, I never would have caught it. I'm really excited for the card Warren Soultrader as I have a bad aristocrat deck and need more value sac outlets. I am least excited for Winter Moon and I really hope that I see it just as much as Blood Moon (almost never) but it being colorless makes me think it will show up a bit more.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, Winter Moon is scaring me. My main LGS I play at, it's mostly nicer pods with not a lot of stax stuff, but other places I play... they might run it. Sorry to hear your aristocrats deck isn't as powerful as you'd want it to be, but that Soultrader is a really good option for it, especially if you get just one of those cards that gains you a life each time a creature dies, then it negates the big drawback of paying the life.

    dominance does get overwritten by like reliquary tower if it comes in after right

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Correct, those would be a Timestamp matter. If you play the Tower after Necrodominance has been out then you would now have no max hand size.

  • @owenzheng8357
    @owenzheng8357 Před 2 měsíci +1

    So I'm assuming Necrodominace's end step trigger is one whole trigger. So there is no reflexive trigger that triggers after you declare the amount of life you wanna pay and thus then going to draw said amount of cards? I'm assuming this is similar to flameblast dragon and thus really sucks for orcish bowmaster players pulling off an Ah ha! moment.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Correct, not a Reflexive Trigger, no Delayed Triggered Ability. I'm guessing with the drawbacks on the card, WotC didn't want to nerf the card much more and they wanted to reduce chances for people to Gotcha! the Necro player.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 2 měsíci +2

      It would be a Timestamp matter. If you have Necro in first and then you later play the Tower, then you would have no max hand size. Swap the order and now you do have a hand size of 5 if the Necro comes in 2nd.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před měsícem +1

      Is this a casual game of Commander? If so, then you won't have any official judge on hand to make a ruling on anything, so you all just have to do a bit of a rule zero talk with each other. Make sure that you always announce the Necro trigger, which is sounds like you did, and have a bit of a pause, maybe even say something along the lines of "if anyone wants to respond, now's your last chance before I pick the number" and pause for a second again. I typically do this in all of my games when I move to combat. I always say "okay, attempting to move to combat" and wait for a second or so for anyone to cast some stuff. I don't like getting into those moments of "well if I knew you were gonna attack me then I wouldn't have let your creature live" or anything like that.
      If you're in a more formal setting, like a tournament or paid event of some sort and this happens, call over for a judge and explain what happened and they'll make their ruling. If the opponent repeatedly does it, then it might could escalate to cheating if the judge feels they know what they're doing, trying to bait out information from their opponents, and on the flip side you want to make sure you're not moving through your triggers too fast and are properly passing priority around to all players.

      @@ThisIsACommanderChannel thank you for answering me very clearly👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤓
      i play mostly modern, so for my situation, for example after i declared the trigger, and my opp chose not to respond,,, is me paying the life part already of the trigger resolving? ty 😓

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před měsícem +1

      @@kenmacad Correct, you announce the Triggered Ability, if it hard targets or modes you would also announce those, but in this case it doesn't have any, so you would just say something like, "move to my End Step, this triggers my Necro, any responses? *PAUSE* No? Okay, I'm then going to pay N life into it." At the point you say "I'm then going..." you're in the process of resolving the trigger, they've been given clear queues that you're at that point, you've clearly asked them if they wanted to pass priority or hold it and respond in some way, so if they haven't said anything by that point, it's too late. If they then did after you said the number, just call for a judge and explain exactly what you said and they will make their call. It can be a commonly made mistake by the player the first time, that's okay, but if they repeatedly do it, that's being a bad sport about this whole thing and for sure keep calling the judge over for them to upgrade their call.
