As much as I love Donatella, the collection for Fendi felt very Versace and barely any Fendi other than the monogram. Meanwhile Kim's vision of Versace remained very Versace.
the collection likely swayed more versace-esque because the codes and image of versace are so iconic, the image of versace so strong thanks to Gianni and what he did in the 90s , the iconic prints, the cuts of the clothes, the supermodel association with the brand, the whole nostalgia. kim is of the generation who grew up seeing Versace at its golden period under Gianni in the 90s. where is at fendi the codes of fendi aren’t as defined or easily identified. fendi strongest code is the logo which donatella gravitated toward. and fur which donatella is anti fur so instead she used shearling as the “fur” fabric to mix with the collections. karl lagerfeld was brilliant at fendi in his own way because he made it unique without being so easy to identify a “fendi” look. everyone has a easier sense of what the “versace” look is vs fendi. with that said the collection overall looks amazing the clothes were made to be “commercial” so they would sell, hence why they stuck with iconic looks from the archives and heavy on logo logo. this show definitely makes a triumphant return of logo on everything, the logo trend is back. people will be walking billboards and brand ambassadors lol
