This story made me think of the time I first went shooting, it was a Glock 19, Walther PPS, and a CZ 75. What spoke out to me the most when I was at the range was how heavy the guns were and how it inspired me to be Pro-2nd Amendment and influenced me to want to become a gun owner in the future. Why the weight of the gun spoke out stuck out the most was because it taught me something, to have such a small device need so much discipline and control, gave me a little hint into what it must've been like to be a gun owner. To have the power to end a life with 5 lbs. of pressure from your finger, the responsibility that hangs over your head, the precautions you must take to make sure such a device doesn't get into the wrong hands inspired me. I wanted to have that sense of discipline and responsibility, I also realized that having a gun didn't make me feel powerful, it made me more careful, it led me to follow every instruction that was given to me, and led me to ask for advice from other people at the range. I do want to own a gun to have that right to be able to defend myself, but I want to learn that responsibility of being a gun owner and have that responsibility as an adult, I want to be able to exercise my right to the 2nd Amendment, and I want to be able to have that extra bit of security, in case if the worst comes.

Like 4 percent of gun related crime is done by people with legally owned fire arms. Do you think criminals will turn in there unregistered guns if the law told them to do so? Do you not think Mexico and South America wouldn’t just ship up guns along with the drugs they send to this country already? Do you not know that London just passed NY CITY in its murder rate and they don’t even have guns there people are just stabbing eachother to death that much? It’s misguided thinking you can take away people’s guns. There’s simply too much of them and our circumstances don’t allow for it. Why don’t we look at the real issue like the mental health of the one weilding the gun. It’s juvenile to just blame the inanimate object.

Look at the Federalist Papers, particularly Federalist 46. James Madison lays it all out. The second amendment exists to provide a counter balance to government power and the founders viewed a well armed populace as essential to the survival of a free people. (Its not about hunting or shooting a burglar. That was just assumed to be totally obvious) Privately owned cannons were covered by the second amendment back in the day in fact.

Same way you wouldn't let someone with extreme mental health issues operate a vehicle...so to shouldn't they be allowed to operate or own a firearm. We need better tests and failsafea to insure they have no access to them...NOT banning firearms or amending the 2A. My point being this country and the people are very select at who should own and carry those said weapons.

Driving cars is a bad analogy just because cars utility is so woven into everyday society that we cannot get rid of them. Guns are not. I'm not saying anything on gun control, I'm only saying that the analogy is not a great comparison.

Because I’m a gun owner and the NRA which refuses to support or endorse what I would consider reasonable gun control measures does not line up with so many of the beliefs in this country that most gun owners hold. There are WAY more than 5 million gun owners in the USA and yet the NRA only has 5 million numbers. What does this tell you?

I respectfully disagree- I think when one asks a question like “do you need an AR15”; they’re not questioning your second amendment right, because that’s inalienable. They’re questioning whether you are extending beyond the limits that our forefathers imagined. When they drafted the first amendment, they certainly wouldn’t think to allow all speech. The same applies to every single other amendment. It’s about reasonable restrictions. It’s what John Locke wrote about; giving up a portion of your rights (not your rights in entirety) for the welfare of all people under that government.

When the 2nd was written, the colonies had been constantly harassed by British soldiers who, among other things, confiscated weapons they thought could be used against them. Therefore, it was written to say that a state (a political entity) would not be free unless its citizens could organize a response to an enemy. The main idea is that taking someone's guns away needed to be criminalized to make oppressing us unattractive. Now, at that time we didn't have the layers of law enforcement and national defense that we now have but the 2nd is written with no stipulations and is therefore enshrined as a basic right of the US citizen.
