      Yes, you can, as long as the holder accommodates for the size.
      What he is doing also doesnt do much for the edges and corners of the card, either. They can still rattle and bang around. Doesn't make much sense to get worried about one surface of the card when you left the other side, and the edges, unprotected.

  • @Caniacforever
    @Caniacforever Před 4 lety +10

    great idea for a video. i have found in my experience that most holders are acceptable for keeping cards safe provided you take a microfiber cloth and wipe them down prior to placing them in your holder of choice. you can easily damage a card with even a penny sleeve if you have a speck of dirt or dust that drags across the surface of the card as you're inserting it. friction plus dirt/dust is responsible for the vast majority of surface scratches that aren't incurred during manufacture. the key is to store cards in a dust/dirt free environment or just get them slabbed as soon as possible.

    So basically one touches will not damage your card. My experience from screw downs have been if the card “doesn’t” move around it could stick to the top of the case. I’ve had that happen a few times. I’ve never had a one touch damage my cards with normal use or moving it around or anything. But I haven’t shaked it like crazy like that lol

    I have similar concerns, but with vintage it's more about the card moving around at the sides than worries about surface damage. Not all vintage cards were cut from the same point cardboard - particularly this is true for 1970's cards. In many cases 35 point is way too thick, and they will just slosh around in there. For this and other reasons, I've mostly given up on magnetics. Toploaders are cheap, easily replaceable, and if used properly with penny sleeves - the cards stay put and don't move around. Yes, it can take some patience with the penny sleeves, but as long as you don't force the cards it will work eventually without damaging them.

  • @MRForever-ub5pw
    @MRForever-ub5pw Před 3 lety

    A novice holder question. Would it be bad to have a card that would normally be in a 35pt holder, in a 55pt holder with a penny sleeve on both sides? I saw a response about putting it in a 35pt holder but putting the card completely in one penny sleeve but slitting the sleeve. Why is that necessary? Thanks!

    What I don't understand is that the length of the scratch is much longer than any possible movement the card did in the case from shacking it. It looks to be a good 1/4 inch long and the card only moves 1/16 inch up and down, if that....I just bought a few boxes of Pro-Mold 55pt Magnetic One Touch Card Holder that Holds Sleeved cards. I don't trust them... if the holder falls out of your hands onto the ground the magnet pops open and the card comes flying right out of the holder damaging the card. With the (1) one screw down that can't happen... you'll damage the holder but not the card. Also... in general the way you constantly clean off your cards with your thumb that does more damage than the holder ever will. I cringed every time you passed your thumbs to clean/wipe off the card. 25 years using without sleeves and zero problems.
