      She was/is simply not prepared to deal with such tennis - technically and tactically. Her defence is not effective and very limited in terms of shots selection. Even Aga Radwańska was able to come up with more effective shot making when being attacked by heavy hitters in a rally. Iga needs to learn how to operate sliced ball on a regular basis...(rally+ serve return) if your natural game has more spin you have to learn how to defend effectively in many technical ways ..look Nadal ....how many times he goes for sliced bh when being pushed/off-balance despite having good top spin or loopy bh shot? quite frequently right? There is a reason and logic behind it. Iga should change his coaching team but i doubt i will happen in the next few months...

      Always the problem for heavy top spinners. If I were a coach I wouldn't teach that style. I've seen too many matches lost to players who step in and nail it. Even Nadal struggles when Djokovic does it, and no woman has his strength to get as much kick on it.

    • @tomgraham3206
      @tomgraham3206 Před 2 lety +12

      @@jatojo heavy topspin is good for percentages but you're too vulnerable when someone clobbers the ball early and hard so that you don't have the time or the strength to generate the power to go with the spin, and then your balls drop short. It's tough to play against topspin and it can cause a lot of errors, but the chances are in a tournament you will come up against one player who is playing well enough to out hit you. To be fair to Swiatek she plays the aggressive topspin style better than any woman I've seen do it, thinking of Sabatini, Martinez, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova, Stosur. All of those players were slam winners with great careers but on many occasions I saw them pummelled by in form players who could hit down on the ball. Flatter hitters tend to have the match more on their racket. Swiatek could do with a sliced backhand to slow things down when someone is coming at her.

    Ostapenko on fire!!! What a match!

  • @inspirasiplaylists9910

    Ostapenko is not just unplayable today. She is unplayably the best player when she is in the mood. But it is impossible to play like that match after match over a fortnight - except during that Paris fortnight when the ball kept hitting the lines at ferocious speed.
    But with that kind of game, it can get ugly fast when she misfires. I like her game though, and I admire her all-or-nothing attitude . Her turn-around time between rallies is quick because she doesn't need to work the crowd, and she doesnt think too much about Plan A or B. She only plays the Ostapenko way - drive every ball flat, hard and early. And she seldom look intimidated because she knows that her best is better than everyone else's best.

    Ostapenko has been playing pretty well since May with one title, one loss in another final and this is her second quarterfinal besides those.. Her ranking has gone from 44 at the start of the year to 29 before this week. It seems like there are fewer blow ups and arguments and I wonder if the implementation more and more of electronic line calls may help her as there are no arguments under this system with lines people and chair umpires.

    I`m just wondering when Iga and her team finally realize that playing doubles at the same tournament (as in e.g. French Open 2021) is a bad idea - so exhausted was she both mentally and physically after her doubles match that against Ostapenko today she simply wasn`t being her normal self. It may be perfectly OK for players like Krejcikova (French Open winner in both singles and doubles) but Swiatek is a different sort of person - fragile mentally and unstable physically . Iga is my favourite WTA player, so please, Swiatek Team, do start to think.

    Jelena was very, very good today, but Iga didn't feel well. She was kinda tired or unfocused, therefore slow. Maybe some kind of pain. I got RG deja vu from match against Sakkari. There was something wrong, she didn't move well. Her serve left her in crucial moments. She wasn't able to defend break points, there were a lot of easy mistakes. She would like to do but she has only ONE STRATEGY for the match.
      When she loses, she goes to the toilet and calls medical help….(Sakkari RG’21).
      She can’t handle the even matches, top points or when she loses…. Crucial points - double faults, no first serve, etc.

    Iga has been a one hit wonder so far. I believe success in WTA field is based on which player has the momentum in that particular tournament. Success is unfortunately not based on consistency. So WTA needs to come up with momentum based seeding, or get rid of seeding all together. If the player has a momentum in a particular tournament, they should just push through it and win the title. Because they never know when they will another title again.

    All of this is symptomatic of what is either right or wrong with the WTA at the moment. You have consistent, regular top ten players like Pliskova, Sabalenka and Svitolina who are always the favourites but never fail to disappoint in the biggest matches. This leaves the door ajar for streaky players to hit a hot streak and go through & steal a slam. There are so many 1 slammers at the moment playing - as fans we expect them to do what Barty, Osaka and Halep have done & at least win one more but it isn't happening.
