Helinox Chair One & Ground Chair Review

  • I have owned the Chair One for a couple years and it is a wonderful light weight chair! At 2 pounds it really is a carry anywhere seat. The only flaw is it can sometimes sink into loose ground. The Ground Chair is a little shorter, made to sit closer to the ground, and is only 1.2 pounds! It has a better base as well so no sinking.

    Simple but full explanation. I am looking to buy the ground chair. This showed me exactly what I wanted to know with the added bonus of comparison with the previous model. Many thanks.

    EXCELLENT video comparing the two chairs. I was wondering if there was any difference in sitting height, and you showed EXACTLY what i wanted to see. Thumbs UP!

    Really appreciate your vid. I guess the ground chair is great if you want to sit inside a small hiking tent, or if saving weight is very important to you. On the other hand, I tried both today at the outdoor-shop, and I think I'm gonna go for the chair one after all, because I really find it quite a bit more comfortable. I'll just use tennis-balls in case I'm going to take it to the beach, although Helinox seems to make special balls themselves, too.

    I'm getting the ground chair. I've got a chair 1 and I don't like that my head contacts the tent roof when I sit in it inside. The ground chair will be perfect, and smaller/lighter too. Thanks for the video.

    I'm always drawn to buying more backpacking gadgets, especially chairs. I came very close to buying the Ground Chair (I already have a ~ 1 kg Chair One copy from Amazon, but wanted something lighter). However, I was concerned about the sitting angle, as it looks like my neck would lean back quite a lot and after a while my neck would get tired. In the end, I decided to use my walking poles (which I carry all the time) together with the Mountainsmith Slingback Chair (154 g) plus my inflatable pillow under the seat, for comfort and to insulate me from the ground. It works extremely well. Still, there is always room for N+1 gadgets! Thanks for the review.

    you can cut holes in racquet balls or tennis balls and put them on the feet of the chair one and it won't sink they also fit in the bag

      I love these chairs! The company is awesome too! My Chair One ended up having the stretch cord come out. I couldn't get it back in. It was 6 years since purchase and probably 100+ uses of the chair. They didn't question a thing. Asked me to ship it back, and a week or so later I got it back all fixed up with all new cord! I abused the chair, using it in bad weather, plopping down hard on it. So, don't fault the chair. But, great company! I still use both all the time. I fit both in a backpack (with room for other items) and my wife and I have a chair anywhere we go that is easy to carry! Like the firework show we went to that we had to walk like a mile to get to our sitting spot. Saw too many guys walking with their girls / family; of course the guy was carrying like 3 or 4 of those big heavy chairs. No thanks. I'll stay small, light, and easy!

      I will say if you are looking for one of their chairs for mostly use at home, they do have some larger models. They are still light and easy to carry. Not quite as small packed up as these. But, they may be a good option for you if you plan to use mostly at home.

    I own both a Helinox Sunset high back chair and a ground chair. The Sunset sinks into soft ground without using a Helinox groundsheet to spread the load which means buying and carrying a ground sheet with the sunset. The Ground chair doesn't require a ground sheet because the square foot print provides far better load spread on soft ground and no sinking.

      @earthling1984  Před 11 měsíci

      I agree the ground chair is much better on softer ground. Need some type of fix for soft ground for the chair one. Either a ground sheet or some tennis balls.

    • @rickz7461
      @rickz7461 Před 11 měsíci

      @@earthling1984 a groundsheet is available for the Chair One but adds to it's bulk and is inconvenient to fit. For me the Ground Chair without the need for a groundsheet on soft ground is the best choice, less to carry and it's easier to errect.

    don't they sell an extra 'sheet" for the normal chair, wich acts as a footprint for it and prevents ist from digging ino the ground? for gravel sand etc?

      Just have to think outside the box. Set up on a log, stump, or rock. Dig a footwell in sand, snow, or dirt. Make a sand/snow/dirt mound. Endless popssibilities over just using it on flat ground.

    The problem is likely something I'm doing wrong, but I'm 5"-11" and find that I cannot sit down into the Ground Chair without it tipping over backwards and spilling me out.

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984  Před 2 lety

      The Ground Chair is a bit more of a normal seating position and is more comfortable for most people probably. That is weird you were tipping backwards though with the shorter chair. Never had that issue with the Ground Chair.

    looks like a pain to get in and out of. And it's expensive.

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984  Před 7 lety +3

      It's really not hard. This was the very first time I took out the ground chair. It's very simple to get it in and out of the bags. It is expensive, but, they have lasted me for years. And how else could I carry 2 chairs (for me and my girlfriend) in just a small backpack? Bring these to the horse track, concerts in the park, camping, fishing, just about anywhere, and because 2 fit in a small backpack and only weight 3lbs total, it is easy to take them absolutely anywhere.
