- How to fix P0022 engine code: Intake “A” Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2)
A P0022 code is set when the camshaft is not in the proper position relative to the crankshaft.
Many modern vehicles have VVT (variable valve timing), which adjusts the camshaft position and, in turn, alters the timing of the valves.
Issue with the VVT can set a P0022 Code.
Possible Causes of a P0022 Code
Low Oil Level
Dirty Oil
VVT Solenoid or Wiring
Failed Camshaft Position Sensor or Wiring
Timing Chain or Belt
Damaged Phaser

I have same issue, all the timing are correct and intact, I changed the two sensors twice yet nothing changed it keep bringing back the code I have 2004 Lexus rx 330
Question, could oil buildup cause this code? Just did an oil change, I noticed there was a quite a bit of buildup in the upper part of the engine when looking through the oil fill tube on top of the valve cover, and when changing the oil filter I noticed quite a bit of deposits. Engine has 358,000 KM’s, is it worth adding some sea foam, cleaning the deposits, changing the oil and seeing what happens before changing the CPS and oil control valve solenoid? Thanks. 2006 Toyota 4Runner 4.0 V6. Only code is P0022
It will need to be diagnosed to know what the issue is, but sludge and blocked oil passages can cause VVT issues.
Nice video
Hello, I have to codes. P0012 & P0022. I was told that I should replace the VVT solenoid and VVT actuator. Does that sound about right? Please advise.
A bad actuator can cause issues along with other VVT components. It needs to be diagnosed, and the components tested to know which has failed.
Low oil, oops.
Apparently I burn oil bad or have a leak…good news is I put 5 quarts in and she’s running fine now.

Hello, I have a question about my car. I have the same code appeared on my OBD scanner.
P0012 - A Camshaft Position Timing Over - Retarded Bank 1
P0022 - A Camshaft Position Timing Over - Retarded Bank 2
I'm not sure exactly what I need to replace or fix. I recently got my oil changed back in January. It looks fine. It's not a light color on the stick. It's a mixture of amber and dark color. I hope the shop cheated me on my oil change. I did a test drive and tried to accelerate at a higher speed, my car was moving very sluggish. I couldn't get it to pick up the speed. Someone told me it could be my catalytic converter. If that's what it is then why I didn't get that code? I have a 2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0t
It's going to need to be troubleshooted to find the issue. I would start with the VVT Solenoids and wiring, then check the engine timing.
did u ever figure out what the issue was?
Issue Fix ?
I took my car to the dealership earlier this month so they could tell me what was going on. My turbochargers were failing and it was going to cost me $8,300 plus to replace them. I decided to get rid of the car. I purchased an Audi Q5
So these codes are turbo failing codes ?
