      FordTechMaculoco will bad vct selenoids cause some kind of bogg to your engine I got the 5.4 3v ..put new timing kit new phasers cams lifters too both sides and it's doing that bogging at 1600rpm or 2000rpm once I push on the gas pedal it will act normal I got no engine codes yet

  • @newcoyote
    @newcoyote Před 6 lety +44

    This is definitely something to look into before doing a full timing and phaser job. My truck was making the same sound and symptoms. I took it to a shop and they said cam phasers. "Oh yup! 100% for sure." and quoted me an absurd $4500. I looked into it more on my own and changed the VCT solenoids myself and presto! Solved. I'm not saying everyone will get lucky and have such an easy fix but it is worth looking at first. Be vigilant and get properly diagnosed before shelling out. There are a lot of unskilled shops out there and dishonest ones.

      newcoyote I currently have an issue and I was also thinking of changing the VCT solenoids prior to doing a full timing job. I was wondering what signs and symptoms you were having. I’ve got the classic where everything seems fine until warmup, then a miss develops, rough idle, then under load on the highway a miss is present as well. Codes I’m getting are bank 2 P0345 and sometimes P0349 which are all associated with the cam phasers as you know. Hope to hear back from you...

    Excellent video and information. We did an oil change to one of these engines the other day. Our customer is really good about maintenance and we always add Rislone engine oil treatment to these engines as a safeguard. Even so he had a problem with one of his valves shortly after the LOF. We dispatched a tech to his home with two valves in hand. He's been fine ever since. Only 116,000 miles on the engine. Thanks for your video.

Getting the valve covers off was really a hassle because of all the hoses and electrical in the way. I took the Expedition for a drive after the new installations and it had excellent engine throttle response / power and acceleration. I had to redo the passengers side valve cover gasket, it leaked but now everything is good.

    what's curious to me is that at the point where the VCT gets stuck advanced at 5:37, the sensors are sending VCTADV around 0 and VCTADVERR also around 0. Just prior to that you can see the VCTADVERR walking left and hits the O (out of limit) and then returns to zero. I would have thought the out of limit circle would have remained blue on VCTADVERR. Thanks for all your contributions my man we appreciate you

But I’d like to start with the VCT for the next 10k miles before I tear the front of the motor down. Mine has a shake at idle. Dies at idle sometimes and dash light shows low oil pressure. Cranks back fine. Has a low idle. Slight miss on hills intermittently(might be the eBay coil packs). I see the amazon link for VCT in description. It’s the correct one for mine? Or are they all the same? I also wants the updated rubber gasket/plug that it uses in the valve cover. Looking to purchase VCTs tonight. Both sides. Link is for 1? Thanks!

    another question: with the vct disconnected, what is generating the force to move the valve inside the solenoid against the spring? Normally it is the electromagnetic force from the solenoid that will push it down against the spring, but how is it moving down against the spring on its own? I could see if the spring was completely broken or missing that it could fall down by gravity. Is there oil flow within the vct valve body that moves it?

    I have a 2015 Ford Explorer Limited. I needed to replace the Variable Valve Timing Solenoid (VVT). The Solenoid was "stuck" in the housing. I was eventually able to remove the solenoid. However, in doing so, i broke off the flange ear on the VVT housing. This is where the bolt goes in that holds the solenoid in place. I need to purchase a new/used VVT housing bracket. Its a separate piece above the timing chain. Do you know what you call this VVT housing bracket or mount? I cannot find the proper name for the housing and need this to complete the job. My truck starts and idles fine but after it warms up the worse it sounds and drives. Sounds similar to the noise here, is it a good possibility this is my issue? 200k miles 04 f150 5.4, can I clean these just to get a idea if they are sticking? I don’t have a scanner unit.

    Can someone give me some insight on this issue. I have a 2006 expo 5.4 3v. I got a code for p0012 and p0420. At first didn't feel much difference except for one time it felt shaky like it wanted to jump. I changed the both vct with ford parts. Surprising the bank 2 had a torn scene stuck in the port but never got a code for it. I changed oil and the truck drove great. Code p0420 went away but p0012 keeps coming up pending disappears then comes back. Truck makes no sounds from phasers. It sounds good idles at 750 with no problems. Although I feel like if I floor it it has a second of hesitation. Any thoughts?

I have a huge loss of power, mpg dropped, slight ticking (maybe tick has always been there just notice more now), No codes, smooth start and idle, any ideas? Oil replaced about 3 months ago 10w-30 synthetic I believe, any help would be much appreciated

      I unplug my solenoids and you just heavy wire from the battery post to their solenoid and shocked it even sending power the wrong way the song it's just click click the solenoid immediately started running smooth mine happens to be the driver side, I couldn't believe it cost me a dollar and I was about to do a timing😅 and it still running great and that was 6 months ago these 3-valve 5.4 Triton have to change the oil nv4500 miles at most with good oil

    I have an 05 F-150 with 5.4 triton. I'm showing error codes P0349, P0345, & P0022. My truck has been having a rough idle so I after I researched I noticed VCT solenoid. I disconnected the solenoid it ran fine. I ordered a new VCT solenoid replaced it and now it back to the rough idle after slowing down. Is there a secondary VCT or could it be the sensor?

    First, Thank you for some amazingly informative videos. They have saved my butt more than a few times.
    But now I have a new problem that I haven't found a specific video for, unless I'm missing it. I changed my vct solenoids a year ago with oem parts, as well as cps at the same time. Truck ran fantastic up until this week. It idles rough, runs fine (although it seems underpowered), and then starts running rough again when it shifts into overdrive and runs about 12-1700 rpm. I'm getting a p0172 and p0012 codes. Is it time for phasers or could somethin else be causing these problems?
    Thank you again for saving me time and money.
    Stephen

      Check oil pressure first if it is low you can have erratic vct operation and these codes.

Would you recommend that i just go ahead and do the cam phasers at the same time or not mess with what (i don't think) is broke (yet)

    I put new solenoids in and now 4months later I’m getting this problem. I had it before where it would stall out. New vct seemed to stop that. Of course I did cam phaser. Chains and guides. Is it possible to have one go bad after 4 months. I put a less expensive one in

    • @BadBellyBlues
      @BadBellyBlues Před 6 lety

      I did the same thing on my 2004, new cam phasers, timing chains, oil pump. After about 8 months it seemed to go back to the original running problem. Several months of repeated solenoid failure engine codes after installing 2 new ones. finally switched to 10-30 oil and the problems went away. the car runs great now. 127k miles. It was always my guess that my oil pressure was lowering as the car got to run temp. Thats when the problems would always start after several minutes of running and getting to temp.

      +Jim Macris the timing is constantly being watch so if it sticks for a period of time and the it is outside the tolerances then it will set a light after two consecutive key cycle failures.
