  • Windows Sandbox: How to activate it in Windows 11 and for what?
Windows Sandbox is a valuable addition to the tools available in Windows 11, offering a secure environment isolated from the main system for testing of all kinds.
Windows 11 is characterized by its constant evolution, since with each new update, new functionalities and improvements are added that make it an increasingly stable, secure and versatile platform for your daily tasks.
Among these new features, a function that is especially useful for more experienced users stands out: it is Windows Sandbox.
Windows Sandbox is a virtual machine inside your computer. Imagine a lightweight version of Windows 11 running in an isolated window, completely separate from your main operating system. It's like having a computer inside another, but without the need for additional hardware.
In this isolated environment, you can do practically anything you would do on your normal PC, such as install programs, browse the internet, open files... The difference is that everything you do within Sandbox will not affect your main system.
It should be noted that this tool has many uses, and is primarily intended for developers as well as advanced users. Especially because it allows you to try unknown software and see if it tries to do anything suspicious.
Likewise, attached files may contain malware, so you can open them in Sandbox to analyze them without putting your system at risk.
In order to use this function, your computer must meet certain hardware requirements, such as a version of Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise. Likewise, you must have virtualization enabled in the BIOS.
In addition, Microsoft recommends having at least 8 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage space on an SSD drive, it is not feasible to run the tool having an HDD hard drive, as it could affect performance. Finally, it is essential to have a 64-bit processor.
    How to activate Windows Sandbox
First of all, you must first access the BIOS by pressing the F12 or Del key. Look for the virtualization option, whose name may vary from one motherboard to another, but generally appear as VM Monitor Mode extensions, Hyper V, RVI, Intel Virtualization , etc.
In the Windows 11 search bar, type and click on Turn Windows features on or off.
A new window will open with a list of folders where you need to locate, as well as check the Windows Sandbox box.
Then, you have to save the configuration and, to do so, click on the Accept button.
Finally, you have to restart your computer and the feature should have been activated ready to use and get the most out of it.
Once the reset is complete, sign in to your account and look for the sandbox in the start menu. Just type Windows Sandbox in the search box and a new window will appear before you.
In this window, a replica of Windows 11 will be loaded where you can perform all the tests you want. It is important to note that the isolated virtual machine has the usual Windows tools, but it will not have the programs installed that you have added to your main system.
Remember that everything you do in Sandbox will be deleted when you close it. So don't worry about saving your files or settings as they won't be preserved. Therefore, if you need to use a specific application, you may need to install it within the Sandbox.
Windows Sandbox is a powerful and useful feature that allows you to safely test in an isolated environment. With a few requirements and simple steps, you can activate this tool and start exploring everything it has to offer.
