One of the platforms to watch movies and series via streaming that has become very popular among the population is undoubtedly Netflix, with more than 260 million users worldwide who support it, according to the Statista website.
Although it is a very popular platform among the population around the world, not all users always have the means to afford the monthly subscription to this platform, which is why they have questioned a plan that allows them to offer a free subscription to their services.
However, this offer will be limited to some users, it will be in line with traditional television channels with ads and to reach a larger audience, so this free plan will be tested in some markets.
Netflix, some time ago, tested a free subscription plan in Kenya aimed at smartphones, which gave access to a limited catalog of content without ads, so that people could delve into the content of this platform and over time , you could subscribe to a payment method.
However, it was a year ago that Netflix withdrew the proposal, but now they consider that this may be a way to increase their audience, so it is very likely that the free subscription plans will return and now reach markets such as Europe or Asia, places where people already have access to free television channels, but they sell advertising.
Likewise, Netflix has introduced a standard plan, which has a much more affordable cost than its other subscription plans, although this plan includes ads. The platform's approach is somewhat different from that implemented by other streaming platforms, such as Amazon or Disney.
This initiative is barely in development, but, if carried out, this option would be available only for some markets in Europe and Asia, with Germany and Japan mainly being the countries that have been chosen to test this new idea.
At the moment, no plan has been announced in American countries where movies and series can be watched or downloaded for free, as happened in 2021 in Kenya, since it is considered that in the United States and Canada markets the service is well established, so it is likely that this innovation will not be included in Mexico either. We just have to wait and see if any of the other Latin American countries will join the Netflix idea in a few months.
