To my way of thinking the Vox is so much better ... For a practice amp !!!
Its fantastic I have it.
To my ears, this was not even close. The Vox was vastly superior. I'm completely non-partisan, since I've only had Marshall amps. I was curious about getting a practice amp for easier portability, and after watching this I would definitely get the Vox.
cool thanks for checking it out!
yes they have some
it looks prettier, but fender is better.
@@lobsterwhisperer7932
The Fender "looks" better but it sounds exactly like an amp that belongs in one of those kids starter packages from Walmart where you get a guitar, amp, bag, picks, cable and an extra set of strings,..all for $89.00
Never tried the Vox but the frontman’s tone isn’t good, it’s overdrive channel is really bad, and my overdrive channel broke after about 5 months. Also it is in fact in guitar starter kits.
Despite the feedback, I thought the Vox won on both cleans and gain. Sounded like a real big boy amp. Nice and full with a combination of a Vox and Marshall type gain. And the Vox sparkle on clean.
I like your presenting style; casual, but you have the facts and the demo told me what I wanted to know.
hey thanks! glad it was helpful
Thanks for this review, I am about to buy my first amp this week and Im definitelly getting the vox one, sounds so sweet.
cool good deal and have fun!
A friend of mine literally gave away a nearly new VP10 to me yesterday! She'd been using it as her P bass practice amp! It's now going to be a bedroom amp for me, ideal to have on hand for when I wake up in the middle of the night with a riff in my head...which almost *never* happens!
This channel is gonna grow big soon!!! Loved the video. Very helpful.. Thanks
Appreciate the support! Ya hope it grows too :)
I just bought the Vox amp for my older brother as he’s experiencing some tough times. I’ve heard lots of good things about this amp but have never played one. He lives on the other side of the country (Canada) sent to him via Amazon and I’m really glad I sent it now based on the review. Thanks Lando. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I just found a Vox pathfinder 10 for $35. Thanks for helping me decide to snatch it up!
Thank you for the excellent review. I just ordered my first bass, and included the Fender 10G Amp. Was looking for something compact that won't blow out the walls while I am practicing. Glad it has some clear crisp sound too. Once I get better, I can look at going from my beginner bass and equipment to the next level.
Looks like a great start for sure.
hey congrats! Because the Fender 10G speaker isn't designed for bass guitar, make sure you keep it at a lower level. There's a chance of damaging the speaker at louder volumes. I recommend the Ampeg BA108 practive bass amp, which is what I have.
I like how shows off his guitars at the beginning, weird flex but ok
I wasn’t showing off my guitars, I was showing off my elite VFX skills!
@@landonbailey Your good at them then!
Haha i thought it was hilarious!
Showing off guitars is a completely normal flex. A weird flex would be if he said something like "I got that boutique hair gel, son! Hair lookin' wet as hell. What you know about that gel life with your dry-ass head?!"
@@dboone7670 lmao 😂 nah it’s a weird flex cause really no one cares
I like the way that the Vox sounds. The larger cabinet and open back features are probably big factors.
glad to see a LP in ur channel.
I have learned that pretty much every guitar amplifier on the planet sound good and can be enjoyed. Yes you do need to spend time with them and learn how to make them sound the way you like.
I have the Vox Pathfinder 10w and it's very nice. I also have a Fender Frontman 15G and it's also very nice.
I have 14 amps and I like each and every one of them. They all have a different sound for a different mood.
hey thanks for the feedback!
Every amplifier doesn't sound good.
There are different types of circuits for amplifiers, and quality of components. The frequency response isn't the same for all amplifier circuits and components either.
Maybe you've damaged your hearing from playing too loud and just can't tell the difference.
@@gaboogablah you did not get his comment.
Even the shitty amplifier that runs the shitty Bluetooth speaker in my bathroom sounds good if you put the right frequencies. This is the same for guitar amps. Yeah there are better made amps with better speakers and better forms of sound amplification, but with the rigjt frequencies and in the right setting even a shitty amp can be good sounding.
Its just knowing the limits of your gear and riding the limit it has
Peter would you describe both amps clean sound in comparison?
There are class a and ab amplifiers that use transistors, a is linear and should clip on the positive and negative peaks equally at the same time. The ab is a push pull made to be as linear as possible but the problem occurs at the zero crossing of the signal, and besides the peak clip, the harmonic distortion comes at the zero crossing since one part amplifies the positive and one part the negative parts of the signal and the zero crossing are offset and don't make a perfect crossing for the signal and creates a distortion.
So a clean pure sine wave which a guitar string makes with the pickup should go through the preamp class a, and then to the power amp class ab and reproduced without distortion.
Then you put a fuzz box or effects pedal between the guitar and the preamp to shape your waveform to be amplified.
So, of course if you want distortion and noise, yes even the cheapest amplifier can technically be a good amp, but if you want a good clean or correct representation of the signal you are putting in with the result of what you want out, the better the quality amplifier is also of course the better amplifier.
Usually it's preferred to have a better quality amplifier and create your own signal than have a crappy amplifier that distorts your signal before you shape it the way you want it.
I didn't go into tube amps since it applies to them also, or if solid state use a MOSFET which have the same characteristics as tubes.
But a class a tube amp sounds louder than the same power ab tube amp and class a has lower plate voltage.
Also, the reason we have fuzz boxes is the same reason the amplifier clips the signal like over driving a class a amplifier does. And that originally happened in tube amps because they weren't using transistors back then for guitar amps. And most people prefer tube characteristics over solid state as more appealing to the ear.
I have used Fender amps since the early 60s... I love what they've given me with the versatility and clarity. However in this video,...my vote would be for the VOX.
:)
Actual comparison begins at 4:17.
Thanks for helping everyone skip the nonsense. 👍
@mike hunt Yes. Yes, I do.
ty
The Fender Frontman was my first amp. It's an adequate practice amp, uninspiring, and what I deserved for not researching things better. That didn't scare me away from Fender however, because I just bought a Fender Champion 40 two weeks ago. It's a great amp for only twice the price of the little Frontman, and I'll be content now for quite a while. IF you can afford the coins and the space, the Champion is a whole 'nother ballgame while still being practice amp size.
I have the VOX.
Tryed it against a few comparable amps, the Vox is a killer amp for what it is and it's price. I love it .
It get a lot of compliments for looks & it's amazing tone.
it's a cool little amp for sure!
If you Hate Vox, try with the "Skylar Vox", ;), thats a nice one.
Thank you for the comparison video sir!
I know we all have different ears, I liked the fender better on the clean channel, because it sounded Warmer to
Me, and other than the squealing I preferred the Vox on the overdrive channel. Seemed like it had more sustain &saturation, a little less quacky.... funny how beauty is in the eye of the beholder😎 I do appreciate you giving us your opinion, thanks again
Great comparison video. Very well done. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I really loved the vox amp. Now, I definately wanna buy one.
I'm stuck with a frontman 10g and I hate it so much
Me too
I love honesty .
Dude same!! I was like it’s fender it 30$ cheaper u can’t go wrong, oh was I wrong LOL , I just ordered a pathfinder today
VOX 🦊
..can't you just ad a little spring reverb tank and mount it to the bottom of the cabinet on that VOX 🦊
I tried them both out at GC using a $250 Ibanez, they almost sounded identical. The only difference was the VOX had more bottom end and the Fender had a brighter clean tone.
I love these amps! The first thing you Gotta do when you get a combo that is unplugged the cheap speaker that comes with. If you’re handy with woodworking and soldering you can build a small mini head. The only soldering Involves connecting a quarter inch speaker jack To the speaker leads coming out of your amplifier. My mini headstands about 6 inches tall and however wide and deep it is. The two speaker wires are connected to the jack which I installed in the back of my mini head. I’ve got a 212 cabinet rated at eight ohms. I even made my own speaker cable from what I learned on CZcams. I made one about 2 feet long to accommodate my set up. It’s double stranded & twisted. Just like me! LOL peace to all stay healthy and creative in these difficult times. Mike
Nice demo! No hidden issues here.
The Vox is now fetching over $100 US new and around $80-$90 used and the fender comes in a kit with a Squire, go figure! Love the channel dude! And thank you for wearing a mic, it's really appreciated!
Vox + Telecaster = Best Tone Ever!
great combination for sure!
agree
Beetles/kinks fan?
I am for sure
Thats the status quo combo
I've often drawn to fender amp's but the Wox sounds to be the way to go at this point.
ya that Vox is great!
well high pitched feedback always takes the trophy when comparing amplifiers! Hahaha the pathfinder would in my opinion be the better choice. Honestly the quality of some of the mini amps would make them a good choice in the beginner's category.
Love both... But I'm gonna pick Vox Pathfinder over Fender Frontman 10G... Both are awesome ...
The Vox sounds much better to my ears, I've previously owned both... but I actually think the Orange Crush 12 is better than both of them (that's what I use as my practice amp at the moment).
love my vox pathfinder for practice 💚
Thank you. You just helped me save my money on a Frontman I would not be happy with.
no problem!
Me to
same here
Too late for me loll
too late for me, but it's going back :( its going back today
I got a fender amp...now I understand why the bass is so wierd. Thanks!
Fender amps are good for cleans, but that's it. Vox is perfect for anything.
Really great video man you explained everything well. I personally thought the Vox smoked the fender on every level. Like you said “it sounds like a real amp”. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 14 and I’m now 21. Haven’t been able to play nearly as much now for the past year in a half or so considering I’m an active duty Marine and I need a cheap amp for my barracks room. The vox may just be the amp I invest in. Looks like a perfect amp for a room but we’ll see. I’ll definitely keep this amp in mind as I continue my research. Question. Do you the think the Vox is still good for overdrive? The fender just sounds cheap to me. I do play in a lot of clean but I definitely play a lot of rock and metal. Would you recommend an amp like this for rock or would you suggest a different one? Than you.
hey there! I would actually suggest the Katana Mini. It can be battery powered. I've done a number of videos with it. take care!
I'm a huge fan of both brands. In this comparison, I think the Fender sounded like total crap. I happen to own this Vox amp, and the sound is a mini-me of a a big boy Vox - it's a great Vox amp, just tiny. I also love my 1970 Fender Princeton Reverb. The Fender Frontman 10G didn't sound like a tiny Fender, it sounded like junk.
agreed 👍🎸
Good demo, I like the Vox
Got one coming tomorrow
😁👍
Vox sounded better to me both clean and OD crunch. The Fender had its sounds but tbh, didn't think either were great. The Vox seemed slightly more grown up.
Got the Vox yesterday and been jamming on it ever since. Prefer it to my Crush20rt!
Really nice sound, and like they say takes pedals really well.
Wanna do the led mod but don't wanna hurt it lol
nice!
I got that vox today and am trying to find a good balance for my overdrive. I wish you would have told us that you dialed in for the vox.
just dial in what sounds good to you! tone is a personal thing and real life vs recorded close mic can be very different
In my opinion the vox got a warmer sound, I would definitely go with the vox! Amazing comparison🤩
Good choice!
Oh, by the way, I used to have a tiny Squier Sidekick amp, no bass whatsoever. But I discovered if I put it on a wooden shelf, or table, it resonated the surface, and the bass came alive. Try it with the Fender, you might like it.
Artamus Sumatra cool thanks, I'll give it a try!
Artamus Sumatra Thanks for the tip to get better base. I bought the Fender off this review; seems like the Fender has more Heart.
GretaGecko is it good I heard the amp is trash
I have the white Union Jack Vox Pathfinder 10 (with LED mod and added 8" Celestion 8 15w 8ohm speaker) and after I did the 2 mods (both were super easy) the Vox Pathfinder 10 is super loud and actually sounds pretty darn cool!! And on the overdrive channel it can get too loud but breaks up beautifully!! I have to start using it more!
thanks now I'm going to mod it, can't resist. Speaker upgrade is easy enough, but what is the LED mod?
Sounds cool!
"Super simple mod here. Unsolder the two red LEDs shown in the photo and remove them for a noticeable increase in gain/headroom and a better sounding breakup." from www.tdpri.com where I learned about the mod! full link:
www.tdpri.com/threads/muy-caliente-vox-pathfinder-15-15r-modification.217302/
I found this great demo: czcams.com/video/JIrt_5hKQq4/video.html
Did the led mod already. holy wow! crazy. looking for the best deal on that speaker now. thanks again!
I got the 8" Celestion 8 15w 8ohm speaker from Amazon.com instead of .ca as it was oddly a better deal!!
Vox is definitely creamier!
The vox
Sounds the best to me l have a Vox AC 15 in white
👍🇦🇺👍
Nice! I like ac15s
love your videos man, anyway have you made the comparison between pathfinder V boss katana ? would defo watch dat
hey thanks! maybe one day
ok cheers
Personal is as follows ... I am thinking of buying an amplifier I am researching and analyzed some. I like British rock, Oasis type, Beatles, rolling stones and some American bands. Do not cut heavy metal! Just classic rock !! The most interesting ones were the fender champion 40, orange ldx 35 and lastly Blackstar ID: Core 40
Orange for lack of product and high price discarded !!
So now I'm undecided between the fender champion 40 and the Blackstar ID: Core 40 (I'm not interested in valves) !!!
The latter called me attention because it has a device that leaves with American sound (imitating a fender) or English, which I find super interesting
What I did not like is that it has no knobs to adjust the bass, (more can be adjusted by the black star software!
The Black Star is a little more expensive than the fender!
What do you guys think ??
I love the Pathfinder 15 and 15R. So of course Vox just had to discontinue those.
the 15R just adds reverb or anything else over the 15?
Nice vid, Russel Crowe.
Thumbs up man, keep it up!
Thanks for the visit
11:45 what’s the song name I recognize it but I have no clue
Edit: nvm it’s paranoid Android by Radiohead. Glad I got that otherwise sleeping would’ve been hard
IMO I rank it:
1)Vox
2)Some random speaker on a laptop from 2010
And maybe we can throw the 10G somewhere in there
Great playing
Here in 2020, looking for a practice amp for my 9-year-old daughter's first guitar. Thanks for steering me away from the Frontman. Now it's down to Pathfinder vs Katana Mini...
Rock on!
@@landonbailey Will do, and doing my part to get the next generation jamming on the guitar. Do you have a preference, Katana Mini vs Pathfinder? I have Katana 50 Mk.1 and it's great, but too much amp for her just starting out...
I would pick the Katana Mini. I like the 3 band EQ and the fact it’s more portable (battery powered)
@@landonbailey That's great thanks! I know how they sound in the room is different than all these YT reviews with mics, etc, and my local Long & McQuade doesn't have the Vox in stock so I can't test them myself. I sort of knew it would come down to the Boss, but I wanted to cover them all and be sure. I liked the Blackstar Fly3 as well, also battery-powered and (right now) about $60 cheaper, but with smaller speaker. And I'm OK with battery-powered and smaller amp for her - who knows if she'll even stick to it (fingers crossed she will). Thanks Landon, love your channel and your vibe, I subscribed for sure!
@@landonbailey Should also say this is all for Christmas for my daughter. She's small for her age and finds holding a normal guitar a bit big still, so we got her a ¾-size Squier Strat. In hot pink, naturally. Man, I can't wait for Christmas so she can get playing!
I like playing with a clean spund, wich one do you prefer?
I prefer the Vox
My Fender arrived today and 4 hours later I see this video
that's the way it goes sometimes right? 😀😵
whats the name of that background music looping on this vid?
it's stock music from FCPX
Thinking of getting the Vox Pathfinder, the Mini5 Rhythm or the Blackstar ID Core. I'm a begginer and am thinking way too hard about getting a first time amp. I've seen so many videos that I can't make a decision. Any recommendations for something under $250 Cdn?
+Keeawe I had the idcore 10 and it was great. I'd definitely recommend one. the 10 was only around $130
Great - thanks very much! Enjoying your videos; keep up the good work!
The VOX may have better bass but It's also 30 bucks more I went with the fender and I plan on using the headphone out to my Fender Frontman 212 100 watt amp auxiliary in
Hi i am about to buy a guitar and an amp. My first set. I am not familiar with all these so i am trying to figure out some things through net. I noticed a difference between the specs of these two amps that is not mentioned in the video. The Fender has an aux in in order to plug a phone (or a pc?) and play a backtrack among with the guitar. As far i understood vox does not have an aux in. So my question is how someone use the vox and play a backtrack and the guitar simultaneously through amp Is that possible? If not what are the alternatives?
You wouldn't be able to play a backing track though this Vox amp. there are other Vox models that have the option though
I got this Vox about 6 years ago for $65 with tax, and the Vox is pretty good. My semihollow Tele with humbuckers through it with no other effects was able to get really nice full clean tones and on gain channel you can get a good classic rock rhythm or maybe 1960s lead, and maxed out you can sound exactly like the Beatles Revolution. Love that thing. I have better amps but still plug into it sometimes bc i just love Vox amps but dont have an AC-15 or 30 yet.
nice deal!
If you add an external speaker Jack to the vox it is a killer sounding amp. You can't mount the Jack to the chassis though. I took an old end jack plate from a guitar and mounted it to the back panel. I run my pedel board through it but it sounds really great with just a reverb pedel and the amps drive by itself. I know most people won't do this but if you have one you will love it after doing this. The crappy little internal speaker is junk.
You’re a funny guy. I subbed instantly.
Sweet review bruh.
Hey dude is the blackstar fly 3 better than the vox pathfinder 10? I have a tele
I would choose the pathfinder 10 over the fly 3, but one is portable the other isn't
I thought you were going to play "Discovery" from RUSH's 2112 album at the 6:00 mark.
I have them both, easy the Vox wins, it has the real tone. Fender sounds chunky and boxy, of course it has fender intended tone but it's a beginner amp. Lando maybe you should do a comparison between of the Pathfinder 10 and the Fender Champion 20, they are more in the same league. Thanks for the video anyway it is very well done, you can hear the actual differences, at least I can relate that's how the Vox sounds amazingly on the cleans, and how it sucks in the overdrive, maybe because of the limited speaker size.
Hello..Can i use my acoustic guitar to this Vox? Answer plis
hey ya it will work
I’ve plugged in a microphone to that amp so an acoustic pickup would certainly work. The microphone only worked on the gain setting for some reason. When I say it worked, it worked but not well. You’d never use it that way for a gig.
I have the frontman 10g. Do you think a boss ds-1 would work good with it?
hey there! probably would be ok. 😁👍
It won't make a big difference
Nice video. I'm going to crank my hardly used 35 dollar front man now.
I had both loved the vox didn't care for the fender cause I like to play my phone through it and.the vox had great, sound I just sold my fender and ordered a new vox
hey cool! what Vox did you order?
lando27music vox pathfinder 10
3 Questions: 1. Is the vox Loud? 2. Do i need a distortion pedal for the vox or is the Distortion of the amp good (Like for metallica songs?)? 3. I just want good clean tones and good distortion, so wich one is better for that?
the Vox is surprisingly loud and has good low end. Distortion is a personal taste, but it is pretty rich on this amp. I would pick the Vox for clean and distortion over the Fender
Can you do Vox Pathfinder 10 vs Boss Katana Mini?
The vox gets the looks by a lot in my opinion
And vox definitely better clean/overdrive
But ctazy good vid btw!
Great comparison
Hello i am your great fan please reply me❤..i am confused in 2 amps
1. Orange crush 12
2. Vox pathfinder 10

hey there! I have not tried the Orange crush 12 so I can't say if I like it
@@landonbailey can u plz check?
how? :) I don't have the amp. Also it's what is good for you, not me. it''s all personal taste :)
Listening through headphones on an iMac 27 inch desktop, the Fender was louder, which is what the meter showed. The Vox also sounded cleaner. Have you reviewed the Fender Frontman 212R? I had one about ten years ago and ended up selling it, replacing it with a Fender Blues Junior. What would be your choice of amps in the $500 range?
haven't tried a Fender Frontman. I don't know any amps at that price in Canada. everything has spiked in price

What kind of camera do you have? I'm a retired photographer living in south Texas.
sony zv-e10 currently

Sony has come a long, long way with their cameras. I used to shoot for the Kansas City Chiefs and almost everyone on the field was shooting Canon gear with only a couple of Nikon shooters. Nobody was shooting Sony. I retired from photography about 5 years ago and have seen a 180 degree turnabout in regards to Sony.
I had the fender for a practice amp, and it SUCKED! There's the exact vox on fb marketplace. Ima get it. Theres a lot of Tom Petty in that Vox! 🔥👌🤘🏼🤙👊
Nice review the vox all the way, you do a good job

Me too..... I'm also going to buy a squire affinity Stratocaster HSS ....and now i think I'll buy vox
@@eydenbyrd thats what i think im getting
TNL Mythic I bought an affinity tele with the vox and it sounds great, surprisingly loud south gain and volume maxed
I own a squier affinity and vox pf10 is my practice amp .. sound superb for its price ..
I just got the same guitar and the vox yesterday, sounds awesome! If you still haven’t chosen, it’s my recommendation. The clean tones are crispy and the overdrive channel is actually really solid.
vox pathfinder 10 vs Marshall MG10G which one do you prefer ?
I've never tried one so far
is Marshall mg10 better than those?
fyi closed back have more trebles. it's the open backs that have more bass. its science man.
Rachel Woodruff Fender lied in the manual! I will never trust them and their $89 amps again. 😲🤣😉👍🎸
whoa
I'm a novice with these things, but the Fender had a brighter cleaner sound, more treble, whatever. I ordered one from freakin' Amazon; taking a year and a day to get here - no, not really, ordered Dec 20, and supposed to get it 1/7, that's 18 days - must be coming from China like everything else.
Have fun!
The Vox sounds better.
And its under 50 bucks in Japan, which I was surprised about.
The Fender sells just because of the name, but not quality.
The Vox speaker is a 6 inch, 8 ohm speaker, is a half inch larger and apparently is a Vox speaker, the fender says special design 4 ohm speaker, but probably has a generic Chinese speaker.
Special design sugar coats Chinese crap quality.
I'm just glad my 30 year old USA peavey audition chorus still works.
I doubt that fender 10g will last even ten years.
The Fender sells because it’s packaged with a guitar for $200 combined. ;)
who is better?
I just love how you tried to avoid playing Crazy Train at 13:17
Also: really enjoyable review and great consumer advice, I'll go for the VOX.
can i use this as speaker for listening some music from my phone ? using converter through guitar input
*the fox one
no
I have a 10g but I can’t max anything Bc it will like give a high pitch sound that ear piercing
The Vox also costs $20 more on Amazon right now.
Plz give the frontman some love
i think i dialed in a overdrive tone that I liked 😁
If you use it with a single coil Fender guitar the FM sounds ok. Roll back the guitar volume a little helps.
The Frontman 15R was my first amp too!
Which is better
Vox pathfinder 10 or fender champion 20?
good question! haven't tried the champion 20 myself
The vox for clean and fender for OD.
No way
Epiphone or gibson? Beautiful either way
Cool :) I got the vox pathfinder 10. :)
I had a pathfinder 15r awesome amp
that's one I haven't tried yet
lando27music thx for the great content! You are the Canadian Shane lol
ha thanks! except Shane can play guitar! I can pretend to play in a video :) .
I still got my Pathfinder 15R. I have it pared up with a Vox AC15VR. I use a Boss ME-50 effect unit. Considering that effect unit has two outputs, I sent one to the AC15VR that I have set up as the clean amp, and send the other to the Pathfinder 15R that I have for the dirty amp with the boost switched on for the Pathfinder 15R.
So spend a hundred bucks on the vox pathfinder 10 or 140 bucks on a fender champion 20?
whatever sounds better to you and meets your needs. I'm a bigger Vox fan, but that's just me 😁🎸👍
Lando27Music thanks! Really appreciate it
fender frontman + Jackson v RR = monster
Vox guyssss look at the skin of the VOXXX. BEAUTIFUL !!!
Does the Vox rectangular design have anything to do with the warmer sound?
It seems to give the speaker more breathing room than the square body Fenders,
whether it be an AC15C1 against a Blues Junior or these little buggers.
P.S. - I like how you color coordinated your lava lamp with your Les Paul.
Jack Grattan The bigger Vox cab does help. I almost bought a Fender Blues Jr, but when I compared it to the Vox AC-15, I could tell the Vox had a richer overall tone. Same thing here, more cab =more room for the speaker to resonate in a pleasant, or at least less boxy way.
Jack Grattan ya the bigger body would definitely help. and the lava lamp colour coord was totally by chance haha 🎸😁🕯
And lest we forget, the AC-15 has one thing the Blues Jr. doesn't. A TREMOLO UNIT! And a damned good one at that.
Jack Grattan Ooh yea, love the sweet sounding tremolo on the AC’s!
Does this VOX Pathfinder have an Aux in?
it doesn't have one
