    As someone who is from a middle class family, I often find videos like this can be kind of frustrating. They're really helpful for some people, usually in high financial need, but people like me are just stuck in the middle. We aren't poor enough to get financial need scholarships, but don't make enough to pay nearly as much as FASFA expects. I have a high GPA 3.84. 7th in my class rank. I'm involved in sports, clubs, founded a student help group, did theater, and National Honor Society among other things. Despite all of this accomplishment so much merit I have not recieved a single scholarship. Though a ton are still up in the air (especially the local ones) I will likely be denied a lot of them just because of what my family makes. I've worked too hard for this. Had straight a's my whole life...it's so disappointing and discouraging.

    I really needed your positivity about scholarships today. I received 12,500 from my dream school...but I still have $18,000 left to pay out of pocket. I'm terrified of going into debt, so exterior scholarships are KEY. Thanks for your encouraging message!!

    • @MzClementine
      @MzClementine Před 3 lety +7

      $18,000 is not that much money. And if $18,000 finishes out your schooling. You can do that you can pay that off in 2 years.
      No joke, you could pay that off easily 2 years of driving a truck. Truck driving.
      My husband out earns what he made as a tri-state area manager of mud oil and gas.
      Within 3 years, you can earn $150k. Around 47 of that will go back into your truck.
      No joke if you did that for 10 years. I guarantee you. Especially if you had someone that you could partner up with. You can earn at least $200 to 250 a year.
      $18,000 is not that much to pay off. Nope

    I want to encourage those that want to go to college that don’t qualify for need based. I had a 2.8 gpa and a 1650 SAT in 2014. I got 4 different scholarships to pay for school. Even if you don’t get 10k plus, you can continue to apply each year. Make sure you test scores and essays are the absolute best you can do.

    *Stands up...claps!* See, this is the kind of info HS students need to see and understand. Instead of taking out thousands and (sometimes) 6 figures of student loan debt and choking their cashflow right after graduation, grants and scholarships can pave the way to a debt free education. Really wish more students would fill out the FAFSA and spend more time filling out any and all scholarship applications they qualify for...free money for education is worth its weight in gold!

  • @veronis
    @veronis Před 2 lety +10

    My weighed GPA by the end of my senior year surpassed a 4.0 (4.26), but I didn't win many scholarships that took extracurriculars or leadership roles into account. I was chosen as a representative for my school at a regional foundation, but that wasn't enough to be considered exceptional because I had zero volunteer experience. For the high schoolers who may be reading my comment-- do extracurriculars because it's not just your grades that scholarship providers look at. If you don't have the time to participate in after-school activities (or you are shy), then focus on writing scholarship essays.

      No you are not late at all! Now is a great time to start! And do not feel like you have to pick a major right away for sure! Most college freshmen change their major 2 or 3 times before finding the right fit ❤️

    so my school is offering me $41,000 which cuts my cost down to $13,000 per year and I am terrified because my family is not showing any sign of wanting to pay.they said community but the community college does not have my major. i am trying to apply for last minute scholarships (it being late May and all) and i am trying to consider whether or not student loans are worth it and where to look. if anyone can please help me that would be great bc i am having breakdowns from the panic and worry my family is causing me.

      Just go to community college the first two years (get your basic general classes done) then transfer to the school offering you money. You save while in community college and you minimize debt. Also apply to fafsa. Anything helps. Good luck!

    Thank you so much. Who do you recommend getting a recommendation letter from if you’re not a straight A student and haven’t really befriended any professors or teachers? I’m 22 with an associates degree but Im hoping I can still get some scholarships.

    • @MarisaRose
      @MarisaRose  Před 4 lety

      For a lot of the online scholarships you normally do not need recommendation letters! But I would say since you are 22 you could get a letter about your character and work ethic from an employer that you have a good relationship with or a community member that you’re close with as well! I wish you the best of luck and happy holidays! ❤️

    Studying online in a out of state institution. Never did any volunteering since I had to work part time ever since I had the age to do it. I really don’t see myself winning any of these scholarships. I wouldn’t know what to write on my essays.

    Literally the only thing I have going for me is that I’m kinda poor, not even in the middle class. My gpa was average like 3.0, my SAT score was dog water, I didn’t do a whole lot of extracurricular or take advanced classes. Abhorrently average, I am. I guess we’ll see what happens.

      Yes you can always apply for scholarships, just make sure you're eligible. There are so many scholarships available for hs freshmen. And keep applying throughout hs too. I wish I had done that.
