Hey everyone. I got so many comments at once for this vid that it'll take me forever to answer them so please be patient. I'm practicing Justice riffs as we speak. I know I don't play every riff exactly correct, that's a combo of playing them wrong my whole life, playing them live and not wanting to detune a whole step, and also just not knowing. But my aim is to play them as well as I can at this time. I'm learning a lot and having a blast doing this. Thanks for watching and for all the awesome comments and tips. :) -Mike
So awesome!
If you'll do justice you should check the riff James plays in the frayed ends of sanity during Kirk's solo, it's probably the best one
Lol, asking CZcamsrs to be patient? Haha nice try, we’ll never learn! Nice vid, dude! 👍🏻
I know it's kinda off topic but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online ?
where is bridge riff from battery
The Master of Puppets pre chorus riff is criminally underrated here.
my favourite riff from the song
@@dorukstar7377for me too
one of kirk's best riffs. if not the best
When Kirk actually did his job
It should be №1 basically
Everyone seems to forget the riff James plays in Battery when Kirk is doing the interlude before the solo. It’s such a badass riff
Everyone? Most people not only don't forget, but it's a lot of people's favorite riff in that song. Who are these people that are forgetting it? Weird...
why is not on this list
Obey your master
You will learn riff faster
I wish
Sign me up
He's only gone and done it again, the absolute madman, love these vids man!
6:50 me 2 seconds into playing the riff
You know it’s a great album when the “worst” riff kicks ass
Ngl disposable heroes intro is one of my favs
Can't wait for justice!
Clyine same!
implying he can play dyers eve for #1 without going to ER for destroyed wrist
Same here!
@@silexaurelius or for the same thing for Blackened too!! lol
He did that
Happy with more treble than last time.
Damage inc. bridge riff is definitely one of my top five Metallica riffs
that and the sanitarium riff at number 4 are my favorite he played
5:04 not a breakdown, more of an interlude. Great video!
More of a shimmy than a whatsi
The breakdown is the muted power chords
More of a solo
My favourite to play is the outro riff to Battery (where you just hammer F, Bb, B, and F# power chords). So simple but aggressive
Again man, i love disposable heroes intro and bridge riff, they are in my top 10 also xd
AJFA video incoming?
Hopefully, then the rest of their albums :D
He´s going in order so OBVIOUSLY he will release the AJFA video
i also LOVE the bridge riff of disp heroes (leading into the blazing--if not that hard, relatively speaking--solo)... hated to see the intro n bridge riff at 31 n 29 heh. master of puppets (the song) gets repetitve for me, but hey, that's after thousands of listens. For the same reasons I rarely visit the Black Album anymore aside from My Friend of Misery and Wherever I may Roam, they never get old for me.
Love #6 and #4 #3 n #2 :-) Great playing and great channel.
I think #15 would of been my #1 riff or that bridge part in Damage Inc. where he sings "We laugh, You scream and shout" Master Of Puppets is my all time favorite Metal album I listen to it practically everyday or at the very least I listen to certain songs off that album everyday
Well just finished the video and see you actually did put that Damage Inc. part as your #2 pick lol good choice \m/ (≥≤) \m/
Do this for the first few Megadeth albums too!
Coincidentally, i had my bass guitar in my hand when i clicked on this video, so i played along with you!
My fave riff is probably the Outro riff in Battery. So intense!
4:21 and 4:31 probably the best song they made in that album or maybe they're over all best song (yet very underrated)
Love the series man great work!
Very cool video! The riffs sound right on, and it's inspiring
Good job, inspired me to learn a few Puppets riffs I never realized I need to try
I hope youll do Hardwired too :) so much great riff there. (Love the series btw)
Thanks for these Mike. So fun.
Cool vids man. Let’s see your fave solos next
That is a sweet SG! Thanx for the riffs man, great album!
Soundgarden? Haha
Wow great job ... love those pickups too
thanks. i gotta go back and revisit these songs. its been years. almost forgot how many kickass riffs this album contains
All riffs are all perfect! Good job!
That is actually a good Master of Puppets tone, congratz since many youtubers / guitarists struggle with that aspect.
What an amazing video, published on my birthday too.
These videos are so lit dude
I was expecting this video after the Ride The Lightning one. Nice video! 2nd most favorite album.
Dude i wanna say thank you for your lessons :D
pretty much 100% agree! especially with #2 and #1!
"Kirk Hammett: We were drinking at the Carlson house one night, and Lars turned on the tape deck: "Listen to this, man. Fostex Multitrack Mesa/Boogies with James playing the heaviest riff ever!" It was the main riff to 'Master of Puppets', which had been quadrupled on all four tracks and sounded super heavy. And I knew it immediately as this joke riff that James would always play on the D string. He just dropped it down to the low E string and it was suddenly this whole other thing."
"HAMMETT: I’ll tell you how the main [descending] riff to “Master of Puppets” came about. On the Ride the Lightning tour, James would always play the riff in the dressing room, but on the D string, and I’d play it simultaneously on the G string as a parallel-fourths harmony line. It sounded really dorky and funny. Then one day at rehearsal, James said, “Let me show you this really heavy song intro,” and proceeded to play that exact riff on the low E string. I said, “Ah, so you finally found a use for that dorky little thing!” It’s anything but dorky now."
"HETFIELD: "I remember writing the chorus to "Master of Puppets" in our living room and thinking it was too commercial, too obvious. "If it's too easy, something's wrong." That was kind of the Metallica mantra. Lars said, "No, no, it's really good. It's catchy." I thought, 'Well, maybe I'm the melody, catchy guy, and that's okay.' Cliff was certainly a bit part of the [writing] process. Musically, he was so well respected, that we'd often look to him for modulations, or where the next part should come from, or go. He just KNEW.""
''KIRK HAMMETT: James would show Cliff and me the riffs, and we'd build the songs from there. Some I'd already be familiar with. The main riff in ''Battery'', for instance: the first time I heard James play that was in England, on his acoustic guitar. We were watching THE YOUNG ONES on the BBC, and all of a sudden he started messing around with this sort of galloping rhythm. I said, ''Wow, that's cool''. And so when it came time to start learning stuff, I'd often hear a riff and say, ''Oh, okay. I know that one.""
"JAMES HETFIELD: The ''Battery'' intro happened pretty much out of boredom. I remember sitting on the couch at Carlson, not being able to sleep. Back then, when channels signed off at night, they'd play the national anthem, but Channel Four in the Bay Area played a classical piece [Faure's ''Pavane'']. It was such a great melody. I'd grab an acoustic, play along, and eventually wound up with a chord progression that got me thinking, WHAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE INTRO? I wanted something with a lot of build that would raise your hair up and give your goosebumps. The acoustic part starts, and it's building like an approaching storm. Something's coming. You can feel it. It starts off soft and quiet, then boom! The heaviness takes you to another level. I thought, 'Oh, man. This is how I want to start the record. This is how I want to start the show.'"
these vids are bonkers man
Putting Sanitariums verse riff in the #24 spot is a little unfair I think. But still a great video.
Your clean tone is gorgeous!
This album was such a huge package of awesome riffs.. 🤩
You absolutely nailed the tone on #6 Puppets breakdown riff, just amazing. Me personally would've put #14 Orion section b riff up a little higher, but that's just my opinion. I've always loved that riff. Overall, bad ass!!!!!!!
I see you fixed the minor issue in the MoP intro riff that was present in your 2017 video where you played it. Kudos. It's easy to miss that 2, 1 at the very end.
1:38 the best imo
Amazing man
Very good job, thank you
Looking forward to the top riffs from St. Anger!
"KIRK HAMMETT: I remember getting home and working religiously to improve my technique. I was still living at my mom's in El Sobrante, but spending quite a bit of time up in Sonoma. I knew a guy with a recording studio there, so I'd hang out with him, play guitar, and just gather ideas together, one of which was the pre-chorus to ''Master of Puppets'', the ''come crawling faster'' part. Generally, though, I was taking stock of my situation and catching up with friends at places like Ruthie's (Inn), or the Stone. The local metal scene had grown exponentially while we were away, and everyone was kind of abuzz. Exodus was releasing their first album, and [Slayer's] Haunting the Chapel was out. There was a lot of exciting stuff going on. Things were also beginning to loosen up a bit for us, financially."
Atta boy now we’re getting some aggressive bite off the strings. Treble ftw
Master of Puppets chorus is an easy top ten! But great playing
This is so awesome! :D
The master of puppets intro riff is so simple yet so genius and catchy...
Great tone!
Your guitar tone is so f***ing juicy and rich and everything damn
While I'm not a big Metallica fan anymore, this series is cool. Blast of nostalgia. I appreciate it dude.
I'm lookin forward to see every album^^
Keep up your awesome work man. \m/
Thanks for the videos, would love it if you would give some instructional videos on all these riffs
My Favorite RIff of Master of Puppets is Master of Puppets, the whole intro, everything on it, three riffs a variaton riff and the tritone running, and the tone and Everything.
Johnny Marr Guitar Techniques plz!
What kind of gear are you using besides the SG?Awesome vid as always :)
So well done!!!!! Such awesome riffs.
Glad to see some recognition for Damage, Inc. Nice job!
You are well talented man!!. Can you plzz give lessons on how to use the scales mode with advanced chords :)
Obey your…
MASTER! MASTER!
I think the riff right after the first battery solo and also is pretty cool
Here’s my top 10 (in no order) PS - I love your bad tab book videos. They totally messed me up in the 80’s.
DH - Intro
B - Intro
MoP - 2nd Intro Riff
DI - Bridge Riff
LM - Bridge Riff
B - Bridge Riff
MoP - Interlude
O - Cliff’s 1st lead fill near beginning
O - All of Cliff’s writing 4:00 and on (more than a riff)
S - Guitar Harmony right before KH’s last lead
Putting that Disposable Heroes intro riff as last place is just criminal.
Next one is prrrooooobably going to be Rust In Peace, right? ;)
You. I don't like you.
Not so easy to do ;) I think it would take him more than a day.
@@irishRocker1 Also RiP has like 800 riffs on that album lol
Hey you stole my profile avatar
@@nickp3949 800 riffs on Holy Wars alone bruh. But I'm sure we all know the number one would be the harmonic riff right?
6:13 I was waiting for this the whole vidio and got nervous when I got to the end like “ he’s not even gonna include it ? !! “ but then I saw it 😂 kirks masterpiece
Excelent video
#18 Disposable Heroes verse chug...easy way to remember the rhythm:
Shave and a haircut bum bum digga digga.
It works lovely
I honestly thought Number 2 was gonna be master of puppets, number 1 was gonna be Orion
Do you use your kemper profiler for record? Your tone was awesome and of course your playing was stellar
You are awsome! Please do it for hardwired too!
...And Justice For All is going to be sick! What a great series man.
Love it!
The clean riff in master of puppets and the battery verse riffs are probably my favorites
That pre-bridge riff in Leper Messiah might actually be my favorite riff of all time
Damage inc bridge riff is a master piece
Nice man. So, not hating on the "my friend of misery" bass line played on the guitar (haha) but with the "Orion" bass part you played, I believe there actually is an acoustic guitar doubling that bass riff. There are a few riffs from all three vids I've seen so far I'd have placed higher on the list. All good tho man, great job. I'll prob even learn a few riffs I never got around to by watching these. Thanks for the good content. Rock on.
finally some appreciation for the damage inc bridge riff
Great! Which tabs do you use? Especially Leper Messiah looks quite different.
Hey, man!!! What's the brand of this brigde that you're using??? That's so nice!!!
I gotta say your videos on downpicking have been extremely helpful. It always bugs me when I see certain Metallica riffs alternate picked, so being able to play them properly feels and sounds much better.
The ...And Justice for All video will be 10 hours long with all of its riffs
And you can bet your ass I’ll watch all 10 in one sitting
Even though Justice is still my favorite album, this made me realize Master is my favorite based on purely riffs
Thanks Mike! :) Was waiting for this. I guess Justice is coming up soon :P
I hate the master of puppets song
Can't wait for the 'and justice...' one :)!
That realisation that the riffs are going to become more and more intense as the list progresses. _Screams in Hetfield -_ *YEAH* \m/
Disposable Heroes at #31 hurts my soul… I know it’s personal preference but I really love this riff🥲😂
Do Pantera-Cowboys from hell!!!
The syncopation in Battery is so interesting
Lovely !!!!
Battery intro clean riff?
Thank you!!! Also, what strings do you use
good stuff
The main riff in Leper Messiah is so underrated to me honestly
Loved the video but what about the interlude after the breakdown in master of puppets
#23 one of my favourite riffs of all time
I was just coming here to type that. That one was way too low.
I love how you have to put that disclaimer
they are all great :)
Great video! I'm requesting some early Megadeth as well, and what kind of tail/bridge piece is that on your SG? Keep it up👍
It's a broken Deusenberg.
The-Art-of-Guitar nice lol! Looks metal af😂🤘🏻
