Probably the only good game to come from the Episode 1 movie license. I was always disappointed it never came out on the PS1. The wait between wipeout 2097 and Wip3out was a long one and this game would have done nicely. I had to play it on the pc at and joypad with multiple buttons felt more like a kludge at the time. This is a highly underrated racer. Its fast as hell later in the game with plenty of hairpin turns and obstacles to challenge any seasoned wipeout player.
So here is the N64 version. The game starts out pretty easy but doesn't take long to ramp up. I play through all the tournaments as Anakin and show off a couple of other ships at the end on the special unlocked tracks. The game doesn't really pay out all that much after winning races and its a bit of a struggle to buy upgrades I want. Even more annoying is that they break down after sometime. There is the junk shop for cheaper parts, but I cant be doing with that. The later tracks can be quite annoying especially on the sky tracks as if you fall off, the lower tracks loop round back to the start making it impossible to catch up.
The aspect of the game that I like is the turbo function. It makes such a satisfying sound when used. This also adds to another gameplay element of overheating your engines and damaging your pod parts. You can fix it while flying but this does slow you down as well. I play in chase view for the most part while flipping to cockpit view for the third lap. just to show both aspects on each track.
The Game uses the Expansion pack for a higher internal resolution close to 340x480 and is hardware aspect corrected to 640x480. The framerate is quite low, but that maybe an emulation issue to correct the audio sync in mupen64. I have included the unlocked alternate intro at the end of the game. This only seems to play with the expansion pack enabled, but due to emulation issues no sound is played. I recorded the initial intro with the pak disabled to record it with sound. -

I forgot how fast these actually went. This game was intense af as a child
Ikr
A game for jedis
Yea it was actually challenging
I never succeded even on normal difficulty
@@Junior-eq7gb me too lol
My nostalgia level is over 9000
frank-182 wrong franchise lol
Not even Master Yoda has a nostalgia level this high
Me too brotha I cry the tears 😭 of crippling depression every time I watch this knowing times will never be as good as my awesome childhood
Awww I know right, I can't believe is been almost 20 years!!!
AMEN TO THIS BEAUTIFUL COMMENT
"ITS A NEW LAP RECORD!!!"
😂
I Thought it was IT'S A NEW RE RECORD. 😂
In the NASCAR broadcasts they actually do something similar. The three dudes in unison go “and it’s a NEW TRACK RECORD!” I wonder if this was the inspiration
@@basedgodstrugglin never knew about that being a thing in NASCAR. The devs of the game probably took inspiration from NASCAR
@@tHeWasTeDYouTh I think it started in 2000 at least with the NASCAR on Fox broadcasts. Could’ve been sooner though. I wouldn’t be surprised if an intern or young production person brought the idea to the broadcasters
The humming at the results screens was one of my favorite parts of the game.
+Pirwzy IKR!!! thats what i still remember when i see that game, it was in my head all the day
It’s Watto humming the Cantina song from the Mos Sicly space port scene in A New Hope
Lol yep same here 😂😂
Lol tru
I still shout "It's a new lap record!" to myself from time to time in that guy's voice
We need a remake of this game.
Yeeap
I'm really hope so
I agree bro a remake would do nicely
Hah. It's nice that I'm not the only one who wants this.
I loved this game. Crashing though the rocks, the sounds of pod-racers clashing, pushing into overdrive at the last stretch with the risk of blowing up the engines, and the hollow ambience when in midair.
Good game and good times to be a kid.
Clay From Planet Earth. racer revenge is a remake of this game
This is gonna sound so weird but I played this game so much as a kid that in order to fall asleep sometimes, i'd imagine piloting a podracer (that i would design in my imagination) around the first course while slowly switching it into auto-pilot and closing up the cabin. this game was like hypnotic in some ways because it kept you so focused, so it became the perfect "counting sheep" exercise that i still use to this day.
I am going to try your method
The power of the imagination bro ❤
"They come here, they look around, they no buy, why nobody buys, eeeehhhh..."
😂😂
These Outlanders,They Come into My Store, Why They No Buy?
Now that's a game that aged well.
Yup. The graphics might be shit, but the gameplay is still top notch.
The scene too still holds up. About the only thing in the movie that does.
Gameplay wise, yes.
Now this is podracing!
Harnessed the unmatched power of the mighty Expansion Pack.
what never made sense to me was how the ice made pod racing slippery...i mean those pods levitate
idustie4554 uhhhhhh gameplay
I guess it takes time to make such a high speed craft bank left or right. The slippery physics reflect how turning a ship is harder than turning a car.
In the real world when we cant explain something, we say its because of "God". In Star Wars lore, its called "The Force".
try launching a rocket on a platform of ice and you'll understand
Ahahaha never thought about that

This game was so fun as a kid. The humming at the results screen was my favorite part. Every time I went to the parts shop, I would just stay there to hear the funny things the owner of the shop had to say. I would play this game for hours. Good memories.
Lately I've been looking gameplays of "old" games from N64, DC or PSX (I'm talking about 3D platforms) and something I realised is that these games had a special touch, I don't know what it is, perhaps in those times the designers worried more about the ambiance and the things you see in the background while you're playing, I mean, designers worried less about the graphics and they were really worried about details, I play games now in PS4, Xbox360, PC and I don't feel the same while I'm playing, is like if something were missing :/
Gonzalo Rios they’re missing soul, simplicity, unique sound effects and that magical fun touch
Me too lol
Puutta tinolia
Played it on n64...and it was awesome...I contributed the best of my years to games like this
This was my very first game when I got my Nintendo 64 back in 2000's. Damn this game bring so much memories from my old house!! 😪 🥲
Man, I remember crying of frustration the hardest races of this game when I was a kid. Good old memories...
Bozzie Goddamn Baranta. I swear I didn't beat him until I picked up the game again at age 23 and I screamed out my long-buried agony when I finally made it! .. For a shit podracer :(
8 year old me feels your pain. Some of those courses were ridiculous.
@@Zelascelar bro I had nightmares about that fucking course.
@@Zelascelar A N A K I N T R A C K
Zelascelar that was me with Abyss lol
This was hardcore back in the day
this game was fun but it was hard
SO GODDAMN HARD
yes but is what makes this game worth buying!@@bootyqueso5566
Especially that blue ogre thing in the sky level bossy baranta I thing that was his name fuck that guy I could never beat him even if I beat the actual final boss
And wierd af
I was stuck on abyss for so fucking long took me ages to even place
I remember when i first unlocked and played Sebulba. i literally freaked out and was fanboying. LOL i was like 10 or 11. Ben Qudrenaros was another favorite of mine. oh and that LAST track...... the cloudy one. i remember when I FINALLLLY unlocked that Blue pod guy
is it the one with th stupid platform? And when you fell you had to take a giiiiiiiiant loop around another way that took you ages? I remember that one way to well.. This track was one of the hardest ones imo.
I like the blue rat with the little podracer he was the fastest I think his name was nekita, and I could never beat the blue guy in the sky level fuck that guy I remember me and my brothers nicknamed him "The Impossible"
@@hakuchanyuuki9240 Neva Kee's podracer looks more like an F-Zero machine, if anything.
@@hakuchanyuuki9240 ah yes, The Abyss! Bosie Baranta (a mechanic of Gasgano's) was the favorite there. The key to that track is "pulse acceleration". slow and steady actually wins the race! Lol
@@KimonoFlareonGX Yeah, Neva Kee's podracer was like the best looking, AND it had the best stats all around.
I was poor for sometime as a child luckily I had an N64 and this game. Was really fun, still love it to this day.
Although my N64 was a second hand purchase it was in great conditions but was missing a memory card (the one you plug in the controller)
So I had to finish games as soon as I started them up.
SWE1R was one of the games where you could make save files on the cartridges.
I don't remember SWE1:R needing a Memory Pak. There a good number of games that required it, and be switched between it and the Rumble Pak. Disc-based games, especially the Dreamcast port needed the VMU to save your game files.
You were poor in the States???
@aldairreynoso2564
I remember some games did need you to have the memory card for saving some data. The majority of games let you save directly to the cart. But I think there were a scant few that did require a memory pak for saving actual progress data.
@@jesusvazquez2467 Yes, people can be poor in any country.
Oh man, the nostalgia, this game was way ahead of it's time. The upgrades, inspecting your vehicle, the race, everything was way ahead of it's time.
Out of this world you would say?
this game was so well made, it was my first n64 game, fun, fast, and hard heck.
1:52:55 this track gave me absolute nightmares as a kid. It took me months to beat. I even asked my dad to do it. Oh the memories. But probably today as a more experienced gamer ill find it easy but at the time, this track was the bane of my existance!
Hahaha, word. That map was crazy back then.
Grabvine Gateway, Jesus H. Christ. That course is hell no matter who you are.
That track was absolutely impossible; I was never able to pass it when I played.
How come this..
they come here
how do they find me hmmm
they come here
they mess up my store AHHHHHHHH
"They come here they no buy, why nobody buy?! Aiieeeeeeee......"
Outlanders
not how come this
Hours of fun playing with my younger brother on this. Loved pushing my pod racer until the engines were smoking and on fire😂.
I remember playing this instead of watching Dragon Ball GT when it first aired. And I was an absolute fan of DB. That's how good this game was.
This guy did a darn good job presenting this game. I'm not all the way through the video yet, but I like how he showed different areas in each lap around the track, and shifted perspective for the last lap so it was a bit different each time. My only two complaints are that Anakin was used the whole time (tournament pre-credits), and that Watto's junkyard wasn't utilized. When I played this, I'd buy the best parts in severe disrepair, and then have the pit droids buff my ship to the maximum. That saved a lot of money and made my vehicles good fast.
Anakin generally has the best pod racer starting off.
But I think like during the 2 or 3rd cup, you get better characters
Good god I remember how freaky Sebulba's podracer sounded. I never got past that one track where falling onto the bottom route put you a lap down. >:(
Yeah that track was awful to beat, but I ended up beating by honestly driving like a grandma lol. Seriously if you take it relatively slow on the top portion, especially around the turns it's not too hard to place first with some practice.
Omg, that track was a bitch!
No start over and set the difficulty to winner takes all no upgrades until gravevine gateway then let me know when and boost like crazy until 1st place then let me know when don’t forget get the pit droids before you can continue.
usteeler81 you're talking about the stage Abyss. Funny story with that one with me. I always choose the option winner-takes-all and I have placed the first and every last one of them and on the last lap on the stage I thought I was going to make it through the finish line and I got passed by two of the racers literally last minute I was so pissed that I lost that money and literally after I did the race again I won the race
I would use cheat on that bridge. You know, the RRTANGENTABACUS code?
Its working! It's WOOOORK ING!
best StarWars game EVER
When I was a small child, living in Mexico, I remember that I had a video games magazine that narrated some of this game's racing tracks, alongside some screenshoots. Because back then video games were hard to come by here in Mexico, what I would do instead was to imagine how the game looked like, based only on the screenshots from that old magazine. Eventually I managed to get a copy of the game and finally played it. Good old times...
Nintendo just announced this game's coming to the Switch
Really?
@@ronaldoriosramos2541 It was mentioned in their mini direct a few weeks ago
Kevin Broderick wow
Share the info link please this is awesome
devastated its been delayed
I LOVED this game as a kid. My thumb has a huge blister from how hard I pushed on the thumbstick
O.0 the way he handled that Abyss bridge like it was nothing.. O.O
I remember playing this with my cousins back in the 90s. We were so happy and we didn't know it.
This game was great and still looks impressive. Most impressive. The game really made you feel like you were going the actual speed of the racer. Never have played a game as exhilarating as this since.
F zero X was insane
I agree F Zero GX is the only game that competes with the sense of speed here which is saying a lot about this game!
The true origin of the “Oof” meme is from Anakin in this game
This
This game is so damn fun. Just bought it on the Switch recently. Ranks up there with Wipeout and F-Zero as one of the best anti gravity racing games ever made. Hopefully there will be another made one day.....
Esta para Switch?
I always made it to where you could see all the different racers flags go around the border of the screen so you could see what place your in.
This was first video game I ever played! I was 3 years old! Now 22 looking back, it’s crazy to realize how fast time goes.
Wow i remember playing this after school and what was unique about it was the fact that you could buy different parts and upgrade your pod racer. something that was a bit revolutionary back than.
Hell yeah man I remember being mind blown about the upgrades and trying to be smart about being what to upgrade
"Yeahhhh!!! I won! I WON!"
bro..... i stumbled upon this in youtube and my childhood is jumping with joy right now i miss this game soo much. thank you for this amazing video.
My old childhood friend and I use to play this, but i swear iti was 4k / 1080p back then on 22 inch 100kg monitors xD, anyway big ups this braught me nostalgia :)
NelphieWarrior Right? I remember these older games looking amazing when playing them. Lol
This game screams 1998! I used to play this everyday after school! I also remember pressing that button that would make Aniken talk, and that would drive my brother & sister crazy! 😆 Good times!
Dude, I remember this game! My older brother owned it and I used to sneakily play his N64 while he was at school. This is part of my childhood,
man... I also forgot how fast those racers went
Oh man... I remember playing that course at 27:35 for hours when I was a kid... it was just too much fun
That one was the hardest for me couldn't get pass that one
Hehe same. In the tunnels where you could float you could go much faster and I always tried to get my speed meter to 1000 before exiting, to no avail. The course was friggin hard, though
Boccaccio1811 I was six and it was my favorite one. I liked all the ones on that planet. The music was the best.
Same here.
Omg yeeeeeeeees I fricken loved the tunnels where you float 😭
Man my brother and I used to love playing this game along with Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Hot Wheels Turbo Racing. This game was hard as hell, but we had fun playing each course, especially the one at 2:02:00
The N64 was a blast for racing games.
I had this game as a kid, and, despite the ridiculous difficulty later in the game, it was always one of my favorites. this is a very well done play through. thanks for posting!
“IT’S ABSOLUTELY A NEW LAP RECORD!”
This is still one of my most favorite racing games of all time. I was an Ody Mandrell main back in the day. Fun times. 😊
I remembered this game couple of days ago it just hit me with a random memory. As soon as the intro started it all came back to me just how I remembered when I was a kid 6 7 year old me with my N64.
So many times playing this game as a child, this brings me back so many good memories
I loved this game... I need to buy another n64.
Map at 2:43:30 was so fucking hard as a child. I didn't figure out I needed to not fall down for a while, and then even after that it was so hard to stay up.
That part irritated me as well. It took me a few tries to finally get it.
I was never aware sebulba would actually attack using fire when he got close to you in the Tatooine second race. Interesting.
He does that on every map if you get close to him but only in the third lap I think.
It really pays to go "Winner Takes All" to afford all the parts.
Nostalgic man, good times playing this with friends.
This, Spiderman64, and Space Station Silicon Valley were like my most played games ever until I got a Wii.
I haven’t played this in 17 years! I was 5 the last time I played this masterpiece on my cousins N64 ahhhh the good days, so happy I can relive the the nostalgia on Xbox 🥰
Spent literal endless hours playing this wow. Video inspired me to buy it again for my gifted 64! Thanks for the playthrough, I loved your consistency with winning
I loved this game. It was so immersive!
Man I remember playing this game and passed it so many times. Great memories. Still have my N64
My first star wars game, so nostalgic
There’s a port of this coming to the switch
Watto scats (like Scatman Crothers) victoriously everytime after the race. My fave part!
this game raised me
Thx for this longplay vid, this game and Star Wars in general was a big part of my childhood...I remember growing up and playing this at walmart on the n64 display in the videogame section, I remember it being hard as hell on some tracks. I never knew about the overboost you could do to go even faster until way later haha...I saw some gameplay of the ps4 upscaled ps2 version they sell of this game's sequel on psn and I cringed honestly. This n64 version looks better even without the expansion pack lol...also has a much greater sense of speed in this one and I'm not sure if anybody else could just feel/sense it too, but I always could sense like an ominous dark tone about this game if that makes sense, maybe just the cool ambient soundtrack in this adds to that effect, I like it.
Great upload, I was surprised how many tracks I remembered
I remember playing this so much leading up to the release of Episode I. The excitement for the movie was intense!
One of the greatest games that nobody knows about anymore. 11/10.
In my childhood, i have this game on Nintendo 64. I got Sega Dreamcast with 4 games for Christmas 1999 & this game was one of them.
i remember back when me and my brothers always played this along with wipeout 64, we were basically addicted to it, we even liked to draw our own custom made tracks based off this on paper, good times
I remember being blown away by how good it looked. If I only knew what was to come.
I've never played this game, but it's like F-Zero on Tatooine.
You might be in luck if you own a PS4/5, XB1 or a XB Series console or even the Switch. There's a port for those consoles so you can experience this for the first time. This game is full of nostalgia for me. You'll love this game if you were into F-ZERO. *Very* fast, frenetic gameplay and often times hilarious if you're okay with crashing every now and then. Just sucks that the port is a good $15 on PSN or Xbox Marketplace.
i never understood why neva kee's pod racer was designed differently
NonSurvivorOne trough ur mind....tha answar...is it
But its fast as hell
loved this game so much!
Watching the pod racing gives my stomach the same feeling every time I'm on a roller coaster and I go down the big drop.
I played the remaster on PS4, and here are some things I learned about this game along the way:
- If you're a bona fide player, you can go for the "Winner Takes All" winnings option, which gives you loads of cash if you win on your first shot, but rewards nothing for 2nd or 3rd. So if you feel fruity, and you want to relive the difficulty of games like Need for Speed, this is the option to pick.
- Always go for better cooling. The higher the cooling stat is, the longer you can use the booster without overheating, which is perfect for pilots like Aldar Beedo, whose cooling stat is very low at the start.
- Pit Droids are something I never understood until I read somewhere that they service one part of your podracer each. So if you have say 4 Pit Droids, and you purchase one upgrade in four categories, they will never wear out and always have full performance. Any more categories, and those parts will wear out anytime soon. The genius move is to memorize the 4 categories you look to improve, and only buy parts that upgrade this particular category.
Other than that, I had a fun time with the game, and I took 1st in all tracks of the tournament.
Should be regarded as one of the finest, of not THE finest, Star Wars game of all time. Hard as nails, fun RPG elements, loads of characters, great track design. Awesome.
Ohhh que distinto se ve a como lo recordaba, pero lo amaba y lo seguiré amando😮💨
Man I love this game I used to play this game years ago when I was a kid it bring back a lot of memories
This was a really challenging game and it took me ages to clock, but it was really good. I luvd all the editing you could do for the parts for your podracer. I wish the game would have added a feature where you can create your own podracer, that would have been cool.
The sense of speed that this game gave was unreal.
To get ahead in this game you should change the winnings from 'skilled' to 'winner takes all' (especially when playing the amateur circuit) for almost twice the prize money, then buy all three repair droids ASAP.
You should also take advantage of the savings the junkyard has to offer because your droids will gradually repair junkyard parts to full strength.
Or if you're looking for a challenge you can just play it without buying upgrades or droids.
The memories are real
I have fond memories of the first bit of this game, and then memories of dying literally every few seconds and actually getting lost having no idea where to go on a later skycity based map because I have no idea how they could fuck up a race track to how I actually got lost. Surprising they made a decent game out of the very questionably good source material of that part of the movie which my brain thankfully blanked out.
Currently watching Phantom Menace and god does this bring back the memories of playing this every day as a kid, and god did I suck on some of the tracks but absolutely still obsessed playing it.
Holy crap hearing these sound effects made my heart race. It's been a long time since I played that game...
This late night nostalgia got me messed up
Thanks MAT for uploading this.
this brings back lots of memories. i was 11. those were the days. played the shit out of this and unlocked everything. this and rogue squadron are the best star wars games of all time
I love this game almost as much as I love Rouge Squadron. I remember all of these tracks.
Wow Omg my early childhood I played this master piece so much so long ago I can't believe is been almost 20 years of that
what a great memory I miss
Mars Guo and Neva Kee were my favorite racers. So many memories.
Abyss was always a nightmare. Once you fell down, you could restart the race
You mean the one towards the end? It irritated me so much as a kid that it took me several tries to finally get it.
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you 🙏
This game I remembered a kid let me borrow it and I liked it alot. I was having so much fun playing this game...wow memories!!
