    Have you ever wondered how High End Theaters got great sound? Is it possible to get that same sound in your house? It absolutely is! Come along as we take a look at Klipsch theater speakers and see if we can design something similar. But instead of paying over $6,000 for my speakers, I decided to make my own speakers for around $700 each. Want to make your own? Come see how!

Those compression drivers are very impressive, and you were able to get everything out of them. I am sure that Eminence was impressed too. I am glad you two could work together on the project.

    One cool effect to try with Duratex is to use a scrunched up plastic shopping bag and tap all over the paint while it's wet. It gives a neat leather-like texture and really hides imperfections.

    I have near field speakers that use the Eminence Delta Pro 12A and it's ridiculous how powerful they are, which has any meaningful THD concerns so far down the road from anything reachable in a residential setting. The big Eminence drivers really turn on near reference levels when you can actually see those robust surrounds move. Honestly, if anyone is looking for something more ambient or for lower SPL use, these may not be the drivers for them.
    The 12s have ruined me with small speakers. Once you get used to what these can do, it's hard to go back.
    15" speakers have always been my sweet spot size for the levels I typically listen at. IMO, they are truer to 'life-sized' sound with regard to scale and presence. It's something I have always been able to sense in the room, even when they are just idling along.

    If you’re building your own speakers I would wire drive units directly to separate binding posts.
    Active.
    Use a studio DSP ($200 - $2000+)
    No passive crossover required.
    Two (stereo) power amps, or four mono.
    You can control all crossover points, EQ, time-alignment and gain from the DSP.

  • @TimpBizkit

    You're right about high sensitivity. I'm using Bill Fitzmaurice Omnitop 12 (which take some padding with the 28 band EQ) and they scream the place down with an SMSL SA98E. Even the amplifier in a pringles can speaker get them more than loud enough. The bass woofers I have complementing them need more power to get loud but that's expected. They can still pump pretty hard off the SMSL - loud enough for my landlord's girlfriend to ask me to turn it down from over the road. I do miss having the Peavey IPR1600 hooked up, especially now I have the subwoofers in their loudest position - downfiring into the floor (8 inch gap) in the front left corner.

    I need to build a theater soon. I see emotiva has a reasonable processor now. Would you recommend that. Or just get a receiver from them or one of the other 3 big names.
    Diy is my game in general but a processor/receiver with hdmi is up to consumer goods only, not diy.
    I have to say for health and belly blowing away. fasting, OMAD or two meals a day. Never seed oils ever again, EVER EVER. Eat butter and meat, some homemade carbs if you need them. Saturated fat and high salt intake is better for you. Beer/wine is good but in moderation. Exercise like walking for an hour a day. I've been there and had suffered for 10 years. Lift weight if you like. Just 10 min a day, no more. No long runs, just sprint. Find what you like.
    Love the channel and will diy some speakers some day. Kids are consuming the free time and love it. Maybe after they leave the house.
    Or rather have them help. Muahahahahahahah

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Před 8 měsíci

      I’m not real familiar with a emotiva processors. Having said that I don’t believe they do Dirac, so I would probably go towards something like the monolith or an anthem. Or if you’re on a budget, I would probably consider doing something like the Denon 3800. All of these are upgradable for direct, which is currently the best room correction software on the market. The den and 3800 is an AVR, but it does have RCA pre-out so you can hook up whatever amplifier(s) you want to it.

    Knocked it outta the park again with this one. I’ve been waiting on this video since I watched your Textreme video and it didn’t disappoint. Question for you though, sounds like you like these more than the soundstage 15s. I’ve wanted to buy the plans for that because I wanted a speaker that had a wide soundstage. But now I’m debating whether these are the better choice for home theater 🤔. From your impressions it sounds like this one sounds better overall. Was the sound stage at least decent in these? And would you pick these over the 15s?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Před rokem

      Honestly, I love both of those speakers. You couldn’t go wrong with either one of them. The soundstage 15 does have a much wider dispersion, then these. So, if you are really into why dispersion speakers, the soundstage 15 and cinema 10 are the best. These do you have a very unique sound signature that I really enjoy. But you aren’t going to get as wide of a soundstage.

    It was pretty easy to make better klipsch than the original model 1 and 2. Klipsch used outsourced drivers. You can get better drivers than they used. klipsch polymer diaphragm tweeters were harsh. The woofers were not as good as others you can buy. You can also easily make a better crossover than klipsch used, older klipsch had cheap crossovers. They also didn't brace, and had little insulation/damping inside.

The cam programs are not cheap at all. 2d carvings like this aren’t hard to learn, but 3d can be much more difficult. You can actually draw everything as a 2d model in Aspire and cut it out, skip sketchup all together.

      You could go with a lower pair for sure. But these will make sure you ahve plenty of headroom and in general, ones that can handle higher power have lower distortion when playing at the power levels we would use. Meaning in theory it should be a cleaner sound from the woofer.

      Great question. Those are two 21” subs sealed. So no high pass necessary. The mains are crossed over with the subs. For home theater I allow my mains to play to 60hz for a little more mid bass, but since would highpass them sooner.

      @@rvaillant I'll try my best. But one of the things that I look for is a speaker that can really envelop the listener with a very wide soundstage. The type of horn/waveguide used on the Soundstage 15 allows for the wider dispersion. Having said that, I really love how relaxed these speakers are. I could listen to the BTS 15 all day without fatigue, which is hard to say about many speakers. Honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either. but if you want the wider dispersion, the soundstage 15 is better. if that is not as important to you, then the BTS 15 have a very relaxed, distortion free sound that I really enjoy.

For the center channel in making an MTM using the same 12 inch drivers and same compression driver, but will be using a little bit different of a horn to maximize dispersion for the center channel. These should have better off axis than the BTS15, which might be better if you want a wider soundstage. However, I have not completed the design.
