- Tonerna
Text: Erik Gustaf Geijer
Musik: Carl Sjöberg
Detta är 1957-versionen av Tonerna.
Kungliga Hovkapellet spelar under ledning av Nils Grevillius.
Tonerna:
"Tanke, vars strider blott natten ser
Toner, hos eder om vila den ber
Hjärta, som lider
som lider av dagens gny
Toner till eder
Till er vill det fly"
This short Swedish poem is impossible to translate to English. Here is the translation from the liner notes:
"Thoughts, whose struggles only the night knows.
Music, they ask you for peace.
The heart that suffers.
That suffers from life's commotion.
Music, to you - to you it wants to escape (to fly)." - Hudba
Perfection, pure and simple. A God-given voice. The best of the best.
Jussi's voice is from heaven. The most beautiful human voice. His voice is eternal.
Plein de grâce bravo maestro bgiorling ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
The best tenor that ever lived.
*The greatest recorded voice in human history.
The funny thing is I have met a few people who have heard him they essentially call all recording blasphemy and not even comparable to Jussi live.
Simply exquisite
Wonderful, beautiful voice. Shivers down my spine whenever I hear his voice.
Beautiful,so beautiful!
The most beautiful song indeed!!!
One of the most beautiful of the Swedish songs that I cherish from Björling. It was included in most of his recitals & many recordings are available.
Så storslaget, så känsligt sjunget...
Helt underbart ❣🙏💝🌹
mai più esisterà una meraviglia come Jussi, mai più
Velours et charme plus puissance merci pour ce miracle 🌹🌹🌹🌹🎶🎶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
He was very special
So beautiful! Not many operatic tenors could perform lieder convincingly, but Jussi excelled in both. Bravo, Jussi - yours is a voice and to be treasured for all time, as are your wonderful interpretations of everything you sang.
Maravilloso. Bjorling y esa voz que nunca se olvidará. Un sonido único, tan bello y perfecto.
It strikes me that there is no hiding place in this piece, it has to be perfect, and the Maestro sings it flawlessly, every note given its full weight and value. Oh I idolise this man.
Admire yes! He had a beautiful voice. Noone has surpassed him.
My parents probably purchased this when it was released in 1957 (I have the album with one side dedicated to Swedish songs) and I have listened to it continuously since then. Jussi Björling still thrills me with every gorgeous note.
@@ramonavandermerwe1159Surely one of the most beautiful sounds ever to be heard on God's earth.
@@PippaATNo doubt about that! He was brilliant, noone even comes close to Jussi! His beautiful voice lives on forever! ❤❤❤
Anytime I feel stressed or anxious I listen to Jussi Bjorling singing this beautiful song and I feel a calmness settle around me. What a gift he was to the world.
THIS should be played in every intensive care unit in the world. People would leave healthy, and happy.
Jussi cantava benissimo in tutte lingue !
After a lifetime of living among Philistines who don't want to listen to the great one, I have included this in the middle section of my funeral arrangements. They will have to listen then!!
Brilliant idea! Don't feel alone. Culture in music is no longer appreciated. My family also don't love opera! Jussi deserves to be known. No greater voice, noone surpasses him, not in the 20th century and certainly not in the 21st!
My mother passed away a few months ago and this music with Jussi was played at her funeral. So beautiful and emotional!
@kerstinej, I'm sure she was listening, and was pleased with your choice. ❤️
Good for you! But I wish you long life and the discovery of many masterpieces on You Tube.
My son, who is also a tenor, sang it on my aunts funeral.
I find it very hard to fight the tears when listening to this one...
You are not alone.....
@@dubbelhenke854 One of the wonders of the internet and CZcams is that occasionally even emotional exchanges can take place over many years between absolute strangers.
A year ago you wrote "You are not alone," a very brief, very personal-sounding reply to a post Rikard wrote 9 YEARS EARLIER!
Rikard had written "I find it very hard to fight the tears when listening to this one."
I am close to shedding a small tear myself. It is commonplace these days for total strangers to converse over CZcams about all kinds of topics over a relatively short time. We take that for granted. But in this case we have a very brief exchange of feelings spread over 9 years, ending with "You are not alone", again between total strangers. Remarkable, when you think about it.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody sings Tonerna better than the great JB!
one of the greatest voices ever.
The greatest.
The greatest.
It doesn't get any better.
And it never will.
Så vacker sång och text kram pia
'Googling around' I found this very apt paragraph;
Bjorling, like most tenors after Caruso but before Pavarotti, was relatively unknown to people who didn’t follow opera. Among opera fans though, he was and still is held in very high repute. His voice may have been the most beautiful of any tenor ever. He was a hybrid, a lyrico-spinto, with a small voice that nevertheless carried well. Like Pavarotti, he sang with great precision, always right on key and with extraordinary evenness of tone (one of the few tenors who sounded like a tenor on low notes).
My pleasure, Kitty. Glad you liked it. "Tonerna" is also one of my favorites of Jussi's. This song was recorded in 1957, but there is another version - recorded in 1936, I believe - and its been posted on you tube as well. Surprisingly the sound quality on that one isn't too bad, and it's well worth a listen.
Tack jättemycket för allt om Jussi och Sverige !!!
Pure perfection.
..just adore this song...especially in English ...Loved one, I bless ev'ry hour we share
helt fantastisk låt.
Absolutely first class.
Wonderful
A simple song that, like An die Musik," says it all, especially when sung by Great Jussi
100% yes
Hienosti Jussi laulaa.'
jag förstar att wallander.. Jussi Björlingâr bra
До обидного мало прожил, но это наследственное, увы.Сегодня поклонились его могиле и родных. Спасибо, что ты был! Русские.
Det var en sångare det, Jussi Björling
The mark of a true singer is when your heart and mind are pulled into the stories that they unfold to the audience. Jussi does this for me with every word he says. I find in particular that when he sings in his native language his voice transcends to an even more magical plain. I have a question: Jussi, his brothers and his father once sang a song at his mother Ester's graveside. It is called 'Still,oh still' by Geijer. If anyone has any more information about this song I would be grateful.
I found the Still och still as a poem in Google
@JennK625 What a wonderful comment. Thanks, Jenn. You surely have understood the soul of the lyrics and music. Jussi made this song his own, and it is easy to see/hear why, as he keeps us spellbound with thoose few short Swedish poetic lines - which he sings twice - for 3 ½ minutes. The last note he keeps alive, fluttering in the air, until his voice almost begins to tremble. Magic.
@Arlianor I think he might want to deliver what he was given from music to listeners..really feel he sang this song with his own heart fully, sincerely. This is my number one soothing song.
Thank you, Arlianor. I don't know many classical music, I always appreciate it that youtube users like you uploaded vids and introduce good songs, also their own country's music. ;)
I belive. There are Angels singing..
Bare helt utrolig vakkert.
Den beste av alle må være Jussi.
Får tårer i øjnene.
Vilken bra lår
I have a studio version from February 1959 that I taped from the CBC here in Canada. The DJ was the late Clyde Gilmour. He did Jag langtar dig at that time too. I have that too.
Hyvää Jussia !
Svenska och Italienska språket ger en straffspark till öppna och varma vokaler för dom med talang. Den varmaste var Hr Björling.
Thanks that helps alot!! Iam looking into it.
BLEV SÅ STARKT BERÖRD AV DETTA ATT JAG SÅLEDES SKREV LÅTEN ...TONERNA I MIG ...TACK VARE DETTA
Lovely
The King.
The King of tenors! ❤
Hieno taiteilija. Jussilahan oli suomalainen isoäiti. Tästä juuri "Jussi" nimikin tulee.

Lyrics
En grandiös tolkning även av finska tenor Veikko Tyrväinen
Jussi was a Finnish origin. His grandmother moved
from Finland in the 19`s century.
Just like me. My grandmother was also from Finland.
Jussi is my ancestor, He was swedish. But I see Finland almost as the same country
The most beautiful sounds the human voice has ever made.
Without doubt! Beloved Jussi Wish he lived in our times that we could have had the priviledge of hearing him in person! My personal favourite!
@@ramonavandermerwe1159I know a few who have.
They say recordings arent even comparable...
Wonderful
A voice so warm, loving, full of tender expression. To me Jussi is unique, the one and only. ❤ ☼
I cried when I first listened to this song, though I didn't know the lyric. This song in short length has all - from anguish to release from it, comforts, peace and freedom. Almost every anguish night, I listen to this song by Jussi Bjorling. Definitely this power comes from combination of his interpretation and song itself, and I think it can work to anyone speaking in other languages.
Dear J Kim, I only can subline what you was writing: I watched a criminal film and sbd let us hear jussi with this incredible beautiful song - I was alone with a bottle of Barolo and I must cry caused of its amazing feeling, great voice, sentiments, timbre and so on...
Voce divina. Regalo di un Dio meraviglioso e buono che da all'umanità un regalo del genere. Intima e cordialissima quanto spettacolare. La sua voce è siderea come il suo grande popolo. Grazie o Svezia
First time i listened i cried, so much feelings from the voice
The singer of the century (1900- 2000)
A huge statement, but I think I might agree.
Well said! I agree 100%
Great translation, Kitty. I especially like the word "Fly" as it is the word used in the poem, and by Jussi. The way he lets that last "Fly" fly away is sheer magic. Wouldn't have been quite the same if he'd used "Escape".
BTW, Kitty, have you checked out the other version of "Tonerna", the original, with the original music composed by the poet. It has very kindly been added to this song as a video response, by Meyerbeer? His site is a real haven for operabuffs.
I was born in the same town

Jussi Björling var ännu bättre när han sjöng på Svenska.
Hey he sing as a swed, thats means in Swedisch
Hey from CX
I will gladly share them both. However, they are both on cassette tape and I haven't any idea how to transfer them onto CZcams. Any ideas on how to do this? I'm all ears Kitty!
Or anyone else who reads this!
I'm swedish but I can barely hear anything he says, but its still so beautiful!
det beror på att du är förmodligen döv,....eller hur
I think that's partly because you've (just assuming here) listened to more pop music than you have classical. Pop music and opera music alike require the singers to modify their voices, and it's only logical that we understand pop singers better given that it was long since opera was listened to as pop music. That, and the fact that pop singers are miked, mixed and edited helps them get the words across in a way that is more like everyday speech. /rant
