- Our fourth and final day here in South Dakota. We link up with Mason and Jacob to hit some new property. Between hiking and riding the quads, we end up finding bunch of sheds and a couple of our better sets! Thank you to everyone we met on this trip for your hospitality and good times. Mason is my grandson. He`s a great outdoorsman. Very conscious about everything. He attends a Conservation Camp in the Summer. A very good hunter and trapper. Hence "Trapper Mason". :)
I would pay those boys to take me shed hunting on there land .
That would make an awesome vacation for me and the wife .
Im sure there are people out there that are guides and will take you on the re land to do some shed hunting and they prolly have a hunting camp you can stay at with your wife i guarantee it i think its cool how diverse there land is they have big whitetail and mule deer its insane

When you found that turtle shell i giggled a bit because I have looked for sheds this year and randomely found 2 turtle shells on 2 different properties.

If you keep turtle shells , rub them lightly with cooking oil , that way the scales won't dry up and come lose .
I've got one from over twenty years ago still in good shape, before I learned that trick they would only last a couple years .

South Dakota prairie antlers don’t get to dark and lots of land owners here pay people to come out and pick up sheds to get them outa the fields so they don’t pick them up in there equipment tires you guys should definitely come back next year and come back for archery

Fence lines are a gold mine. When they jump the fence and land, the jar will normally knock any antlers loose. They are my first place to look.
We have many turtles here in South Dakota. It's so cool that you found a shell tho!

5:26 its a painted turtle. There are a lot of turtles here in sd. They come up out of the ponds and rivers to lay their eggs and when they can't make it back to the water they get killed
That turtle find is interesting. Was up phesant and coyote hunting last year near my home town in northern montana and was in the middle of about a 4 mile hike and found a turtle shell about the same size in the middle of a high praire bench. Still wonder what he was doing out there

I know where I live in South Dakota we have multiple turtle species but I do not know about up in northern South Dakota
Most I’ve found in one day was 16 on some of my private land. Not a farm just a few thousand acres haha.
