The fact that Ganon more than doubles his own health bar, knows how to do perfect dodges, summons shadow clones of himself, and literally deletes your heart count is absolutely perfect. It really solidifies how sadistic he is, and if there's one thing truly sadistic villains never do, it's put up a fair fight. God, nearly everything about this entire fight is perfection.
His first two forms act as a dark mirror of Link’s own combat style. Similar animations, mechanics, and everything, even flurry rushing you. The way he mocks you in the first phase if you get hit is so Ganondorf. He obviously didn’t even think he’d have to try.
The second phase only builds on the mirror with him able to dodge you mid flurry rush now, swat away arrows and REMOVE ENTIRE HEART CANISTERS. Combined with the music you can really feel the threat you’re facing.
Then, of course, the spectacle that is the final phase. The music being a mix of TOTK’s main theme, the dragon music, and Ganon’s theme is beautiful, all while riding on Zelda’s back. No better way to payoff the past two games.

Then when the fight started back up I said out loud “Oh they weren’t kidding.” Then he turned into a dragon. He actually ate the stone and turned into a dragon. And Zelda came out of nowhere and it became a dragon boss battle in the sky.
This game is one of the best I’ve ever played, and this might be the best ending to a video game I’ve ever seen. This was truly worth the wait, and it exceeded all expectations for me.

Yes! This was the Ganondorf I was hoping to see in Tears of the Kingdom. A pure evil, demon king bent on total destruction and conquest and not a misguided anti-hero.
For years, people tried to make Ganondorf a tragic villain: "He was trying to help his people" "Calamity Ganon was ruthlessly experimented on" "Ganondorf and his people were slaves" "Ganondorf is actually the hero from 10,000 year ago" "Ganondorf wants to free himself from the curse."
No, he's just pure evil, who willingly manipulated, hurt, and killed even the people he was meant to lead and protect. He had one very minor moment of self-reflection in the Wind Waker, which was more about his own jealously than anything else. In games and movies today, it's more refreshing than ever to just have a villain be simply evil and nothing more; villains and their missions have been romanticized to death at this point. It's nice to just have a villain so evil that we feel nothing but satisfaction when they get destroyed, like in this game.

    • @falconboi9126
      @falconboi9126 Před rokem +48

I think subtext is important with stuff like this, and that whatever approach you choose should match the villain you're trying to create. I really enjoy both approaches to crafting antagonists but find that there can quickly be a disconnect if the idea is handled incorrectly.
For example villains like Demise, Sauron or Buu should be written as pure evil because they each embody evil to varying extents in their universe. Demon magic in Zelda is clearly associated with corruption and evil so to be the god of demons Demise naturally has to be only evil himself. Sauron was created by his universes embodiment of evil to spread more evil so ofcourse he's gonna be completely evil. Buu is the literal embodying of evil since time immemorial, nuff said.
On the other hand you have villains like the Joss cut of Justice League's Steppenwolf, who is completely evil for no good reason. There's no context for his lust for battle or signifier that he wasn't just born and decided to be evil just for fun, which doesn't make sense.
This Ganondorf for me is easily the most entertaining and badass version of the character on screen, i love all his lines and i adore the way he looks, but from a character perspective he sadly falls into the latter category. It's important to remember that wether by destiny, some curse or nothing Ganondorf ascended to the role of Demon King, it's a title he earned, as such he wasn't and cannot always have been pure evil, there must have been a motivation there at some point, and that's what people kling to with scenes like in windwaker or the implications about his upbringing in OOT and TP

@@falconboi9126 lorewise Ganondorf is ultimately an incarnation of Demise
the reason that Ganondorf will always be evil (regardless of the differences between any individual version/incarnation of him) is because 1, he kinda *is* Demise (who already fits within group 1 as you said) and 2, his entire existence is all just the result of a curse by Demise that all of Link and Zelda's future reincarnations would always have their lives plagued by an incarnation of Demise's hatred for them (that being Ganon/Ganondorf). some versions might find a more sympathetic ideal or motivation during their individual lives but all versions of Ganondorf have a pure evil core existing primarily to antagonize Link and Zelda. anything beyond that core purpose is just extra baggage picked up by a particular version.

Demon King breaks the rules. He flurry rushes your flurry rushes. He has a health bar that extends to the right edge of the screen. His gloom projectiles don't just gray out your health bar, but delete it outright. It's really effective at making the player feel the pressure Link probably would. @@cantremember6794 I do believe his spear is more specifically a naginata, which is the Japanese variant of the guandao. Still, I am in agreement: Ganondorf in this game is absolutely inspired by an Oni. The horns, the kanabo, his designation as a Demon King (Maou)... The only way it would be more Oni would be if he was wearing tiger-striped underwear.

I just finished TOTK. I like how Nintendo just brought the difficulty of BOTW to extreme with their new mechanics. The gloom effect stops you from spamming full restore meals. The anti flurry rush of Ganondorf adds another level of difficulty. I got used to the sages so when I reached the part of the chamber where they can't be summoned, i was terrified. XD
Also, there are a lot of stuff to complete post game.

My Final thoughts about Tears of the Kingdom.
I love all the new features they added, I like how we can fuse stuff to make them even more OP! I love how we can create anything we want! I love the rewind ability so much! It's saved me so many times! I like how we can just wall breach/ teleport to the top of some stuff by the phase through ability!
I loved the shrines! I love how they're not all copy & paste! They're very unique & very original! You can go from figuring out how to cross a quick sand field to being stripped of everything and proving your worth!
Seeing the First King of Hyrule Rauru & The First Queen Sonia after Zelda gets teleported back to beginning of the Hyrule Kingdom was crazy!
Seeing what lead up to the great war! Seeing Ganon leading the Gerudo, seeing the original Sages, seeing Zelda transforming into a Dragon, seeing all that was breathtaking and mind-blowing!
The Boss Fights were a mixture of Easy & Hard!
Imo the hardest boss fight for the sages was Queen Gibdo. All the other Gibdos were a pain to kill even with the lightning power!
The hardest temple in terms of activating all the switches was the Wind Temple.
I love how you can get all the original Amibo content and armor from side missions and from exploring the deep dark!
I loved the story telling! I love how some Characters actually grew up!
When I found out that Zelda was the Light Dragon, that was very unexpected!
Then the fight with Ganondorf. It blew my mind with how OP he was! I came in with about 1.5 rows of heart and he managed to bring me down to 3! He even managed to destroy the Hylian Shield! I barely took it out for the final fight & with a few attacks, he managed to break it and break some of my hearts!
Phase One: Very interesting, seeing him regain his strength and power.
Phase 2: That's when he started to get difficult! When I saw how big the healthbar was getting! His attacks hit like a truck & his ability to Dodge attacks like Link does was crazy to see.
Phase 3: Dark Beast Ganon 2.0 but way cooler! I can't believe Ganon became a Dragon and Zelda just zoomed towards us to help us fight Dragon Ganondorf. I love how when it's time to deal the killing blow, I'm not sure if the game forces the Master Sword or not, but using it, to deal the final blow was awesome!
Seeing the First King of Hyrule Rauru & The First Queen Sonia with Link, helping to turn Zelda back to Human was just epic!
If I could go in again blind, I'd do it as this was a great game!

I kinda like how the Demon Dragon isn’t technically the beast Ganon we’ve come to expect but you still just know that the dragon is Ganon because of the features it has like it’s nose being somewhat similar to that of a Boar’s and the colossal horns protruding from the skull of the beast and those eyes. Ganon is like a ghost appearing and disappearing at will taking the form of whatever it wants really. Ganon the beast in my mind is the curse of demise given form. A mindless monster that only seeks out destruction and the Demon Dragon certainly fits this description
