  • @three-dimensionalglitch2869

    What makes this even scary and darker is that the 3 dragons we encounter in BOTW could be the actual 3 goddesses (Din, Nayru, and Farore) who were once Hylian and ate the stones which turned them into mindless dragons.

    • @jesterfairy3845
      @jesterfairy3845 Před rokem +233

      I actually thought they could have been Zonai, seeing as they come from the sky and their design is more animalistic. But I love how the dragon lore in this game implies how they came to exist.

    • @solomon9655
      @solomon9655 Před rokem +140

      I thought this too but I'll add some details: I think the founding 3 Zonai might be the goddesses. Rauru and Mineru seem to imply they are the only Zonai that stayed in what is now Hyrule while all the others vanished mysteriously. Ganondorf said the Zonai were treated as gods but it's clear they are just people. Mineru speaks of the forbidden transformation with a passion that implies first-hand account. There are 3 new "dragon" armor sets in Hebra, Faron, and Eldin, all of which are heavily Zonai in appearance and have the horns of their respective dragons. I think these armor sets are the actual clothes the goddesses wore when they were Zonai and they conducted a ceremony before becoming dragons. I like this new lore a lot because it humanizes the gods in an interesting way. If the old lore of the goddesses is even half true, we can now interpret it as 3 Zonai women that discovered this land and terraformed it to be a paradise before leaving (technically dying). This ceremony may have somehow created the Triforce (?)... There was a nation of Zonai that eventually vanished, leaving 2 behind possibly as stewards. Sorry these are scattered thoughts but a lot of this seems to be implied which is really neat.

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 Před rokem +59

      No way the dragons are the _omnipotent_ Golden Goddesses as their power is way above Ganondorf's and Demise himself to be easily threathened by either's magic. If the dragons are indeed human they're probably the 3 Oracles from the Oracle games who only _share_ the names of the Goddesses without being the Goddesses themselves.

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 Před rokem +22

      @@solomon9655 That doesn't make any sense considering the Golden Goddesses created the _Triforce_ which has the power to defy even DEATH ITSELF as seen at the end of A Link to the Past. ¿You telling me the 3 deities who CREATED the _Universe_ and then left a relic containing their omnipotent power were mortal dragon women...? @@javiervasquez625 dude I think it's pretty clear Botw and Totk take place in an entirely new continuity where the triforce doesn't seem to be a thing. The goddesses are probably still a thing, but the dragons sharing names was probably an invention of the people. The game seems to suggest pretty heavily that the dragons are connected to the Zonai in some way. Her shaking hands desperately reaching for the sword as she lurches forward, probably panicking at the thought that she may not hold on to her humanity long enough to grab it. Feeling her eyes become thoughtless, inhuman, bloodshot as she screams out to Link. Her last plea is not begging for her own life, only of her fear that she may be cursed to a life as a mindless immortal flying for all eternity alone in the skies, and that it might still not be enough.

    12:02 this part, this part right here is so heartbreaking. Zelda sacrifices her mind -her humanity (you know, the Hylian equivalent) so she could live long enough for Link to find her.
    The way she seems to almost follow Link during gameplay, even if mainly in the form of cutscenes and how after Link retrieves the Master Sword Zelda flies beside a Sky Island seemingly to ensure he lands safely gives me the impression that even though she is no longer who she once was, her morals and her care for Link and Hyrule in general remains intact.
    Even if that care is no longer conscious, it is buried so deep within her soul that despite her sacrifice she still knows.
    That though she no longer remembers Link she still knows his role.
    Though she does not remember Hyrule, nor her life before, not the reason why she made her sacrifice to begin with, not even her own name, she still knows.
    Just in case anyone doesn’t get what I mean: the “knowing” thing I mentioned above does not mean I think Zelda can still think the way she used to. She no longer has a mind as complex (ya know, once a sapient individual but basically giving up her sapience to become a dragon and all) so this “knowing” is not conscious. It’s more primal, sort of like a primal fear but as a primal sense of knowing, not conscious but she “knows” anyway. She cannot truly comprehend it anymore but she knows nonetheless.

      I had a similar headcanon regarding Dragon!Zelda - if Link can somehow remember all of his fighting skills after nearly dying and then sleeping in the Shrine of Resurrection for 100 years, it's wholly possible that Zelda retained some remnant of her love for Link and Hyrule even after she was transformed into a dragon. However, I also think that she may also assist/follow Link because she's influenced/guided/vaguely remembers her self-assigned duty to heal and protect the Master Sword until its wielder reclaims it; basically, when Link manages to hold onto the sword long enough, the dragon realizes that this is the sword's owner and has a sense to protect him (if only because he's now carrying the sword she was protecting for the last several centuries).
      I also had a theory that you actually have some measure of control over your Draconified form in the first moment or two after your body transforms. Maybe Zelda used that instant to channel her memories into the Dragon's Tears she scattered around Hyrule, not only so Link could understand what he needed to do next, but so her newly-mindless dragon form could sense some "echo" of its power (assuming using the Tears to view memories leaves a residual "echo" of power or something) and recognize Link as someone important.

    • @immagical7036
      @immagical7036 Před rokem +5

      @@mattshinde3614 oh yeah, when she was flying up right after she transformed she absolutely still remembered who she was before even if only for a few moments it would’ve been enough for the weight of what she’d had to do to crash down on her. I reckon that is probably the reason why she cried in the first place. If her “Hylian-ilaty” had ceased as soon as she transformed I doubt she would have cried. I really like your theory on Zelda’s connection to the Tears too

    • @mattshinde3614
      @mattshinde3614 Před rokem +5

      @@immagical7036 Another possibility (depending on how Draconification works, which I don't wholly understand, admittedly) is that Zelda, ever the "tech geek," figured out how to use her newfound dragon power to "program" her new body with certain instructions, like "protect the Master Sword unless somebody manages to hold onto it for X amount of time" or "release Dragon Tear containing memory of me turning into a dragon after someone collects all of the other Dragon Tears." Of course, she only had so long to do so before her consciousness faded, but you can easily interpret her tears as being equal parts a means to tell her story to Link in the future...and a way to give her champion/friend/possible lover?/etc. what she thinks will be her final farewell and apology that they'll never see each other again.
      On a related note, my theory/headcanon about Draconification users having a moment of control over their new bodies is semi-supported by Ganondorf's use of the art. Notice how, as soon as his new Demon Dragon body takes shape, he IMMEDIATELY snatches Link up in his jaws before heading to the surface? It might be accidental or just coincidence (assuming that Link is the closest being to the newborn dragon), but I can't help but interpret it as Ganondorf's last conscious act as himself being to target the one who just humiliated him in battle and ensure that he'll have a front-row seat (so to speak) of the Demon Dragon's blind rampage across Hyrule.

      @mattshinde3614 Před rokem +10

      The neat thing about the final battle and Dragon!Zelda in general is that you can interpret her present-day actions in a number of ways, depending on how much you believe the talk about Draconification completely destroying one's sense of self. Maybe she's operating on pure instincts; maybe there's some semblance of her mind left in there; maybe she used the brief moment between "gaining insane dragon power" and "losing conscious thought" to engrave her last wishes upon her new body's mind; maybe collecting the Dragon Tears gives Link some kind of "aura" that the Light Dragon recognizes as its own? It's hard to say for sure.

    • @mr.barcode3186
      @mr.barcode3186 Před rokem +6

      @@mattshinde3614 that's pretty similar to the way I interpreted it. The dragons may not have the mind or memories of the people they once were, but they do have their souls. I believe that whatever a person's strongest desire is, that becomes the dragon's instinct. Ergo, the Light Dragon knew to keep the Master Sword safe, and she knew to help Link defeat the Demon Dragon despite having no memory of who she was.
      The same can be said for the Demon Dragon; he was acting on his ultimate desire to conquer Hyrule, and nothing else. Rather fittingly, the Demon Dragon was sort of a perfected form of Calamity Ganon.

    • @davidcrawford5324
      @davidcrawford5324 Před rokem +1

      Yeah no not really...the second that the opening events in TOTK took place and Zelda was transported back in time to the era of the Imprisoning War, the events in the BOTW timeline as we knew it ceased to exist and an alternate timeline was created. It's essentially the same thing that happened in BTTF 2 when Biff managed to use the DeLorean to give his younger self that sports almanac in 1955. As soon as he was given that book and went to start winning bets to become rich, the timeline was drastically altered.
      The ONLY way that the BOTW timeline would remain unchanged was if Zelda had not found or interacted with the secret stone that was found with Rauru's arm in the opening scene of the game

    • @davidcrawford5324
      @davidcrawford5324 Před rokem +1

      @@nikosarris2765 Not a dimension...timeline. The Imprisoning War occurred when the kingdom of Hyrule was in it's infancy under the rule of their very first king, Rauru. Zelda was magically transported to that era in Hyrule's history via the secret stone she and Link discovered during the opening cut-scene at the beginning of the game.
      She ended up as a dragon in the current timeline to give Link back the fully restored and much stronger Master sword. She knew she would not live long enough to imbue the sword with enough sacred power that was needed to restore and strengthen it as it heals VERY slowly over a vast amount of time (We learned this in BOTW during the 100 years that transpired between when they were attacked and his sword broke the 1st time while defending Zelda and is killed, to when he wakes up in the resurrection chamber on the Great Plateau) so she made the decision to irrevocably transform herself into an immortal dragon in order to accomplish her otherwise impossible task.
