- Song: What You Keep Alive
Artist: RED
Album: of Beauty and Rage
Track: 10
Video by: Ethelia Jumper
Lyrics:
You should be afraid of me
Pain is the promise I will keep
I am the whisper in the dark
I am the scream when you fall
And you will feel the pain, you’ll see
And I will bring the pain you need
You keep me alive (so I can hurt you)
You need me inside (I’m what you keep alive)
You picked me up, you watched me shine, like a razor in your hand
And when I cut beneath your skin, you want it all again
I am the call in the night
I am the truth behind your lie
And now you’ll feel the pain, you’ll see
You keep me alive (so I can hurt you)
You need me inside (I’m what you keep alive)
Turning, the knife is turning now
I can’t pay this ransom (my love, my enemy)
Does any hope remain (I’m swimming in your veins)
My love, my enemy (now you can’t escape)
I can feel you in my veins (the pain is on its way)
And now it’s too late (now I’m letting go)
You should’ve run away (I’ll watch you suffocate)
Now you can’t escape
I am the dark and I am awake
(Suffocate)
Waking, the nightmare bleeds, over
I’ll fight you, your darkness, feeding
I keep you alive (so I can hurt you)
I lift the knife (I’m what you keep alive)
Now you can’t escape (suffocate, suffocate)
You will feel the pain (suffocate, suffocate) - Hudba
One of the best songs by one of the best christian rock bands. Red knows how to make a masterpiece
Despite Red's christians roots I have always loved this band.. This song is like being hit full on by a freight train, the music, the lyrics, the instrumentation, the vocals, just WOW
It's because they refuse to be radio friendly. There is only one song I can think of by them that has gotten a radio edit and that is faceless. (It's absolute trash compared to the original)
@@seanathonhooper Gone was pretty radio friendly but it seems like they're going back to their roots with The Evening Hate.
@@katatonic5672 I somehow completely forgot about Gone typing that comment
Sean Hoops well, only a few songs on Gone are radio-friendly. The title track is definitely radio-friendly, but besides it and the Sia cover I can’t think of any radio-friendly song.
Who knew Christian music can be this good lol I like them in concert now I'm a fan
this is probably the most threatening songs from red, i love it!
Love this song. Perfectly captures the darkness of depression.
It's like my demons are talking to me😰 chills...😍
Falling Sky, Shadow and Soul, and What You Keep Alive are by far my favorite songs from this album. 2nd only to Let Go
What about Impostor??
My favorite song in this album.
Hey u
+firefoxinator101 Hey
Same
This album makes me think of jack the ripper times for some reason I think cause I started listing to the album when I first started reading about the case over a year and half ago
first time i heard this track it just blew me away. the lyrics are hard and the music is so perfect! lost will always be my number 1, but this is also very special
Mrs Gamer I agree. Feed the machine is my personal favorite but lost and this song are in my top 10
@@alexandernunez109 Let's be real feed the machine is always in the top lmao
This song is very dark!
My Favorite Song
I AM...THE DARK...AND I AM AWAAAAKE!
Read my comment up above and you will realize the truth for if you have not seen me then you can't be the dark my friend
Tom Cruise There is no comment of yours above mine and you don't know me. Begone and do not bother me with such foolishness
Yeah I just Jizzed my pants at that part
thats pretty messed up bro
That's my favorite line, apart from the rest of the lines in bridge
To me it is drug addiction that is the beast in this song. I hate what this song represents to me but it also helps me to understand my sons addiction.
I'm glad you're trying to understand your son and help him. I hope everything goes okay :)
i hope your son is doing better now ,wow though.....im not used to seeing a parent worry for there son about a drug addiction before (some of the bad people in my family actually support it so they can get more)..thats why pretty much most of my crazy family is gonna die from in...probably 5-10 more years+a few severe alcholics it made them all insane literally....if they r even lucky..well ill tell ya this advice...the only thing that can really stop him from doing that stuff (if he is still doing it) is himself..he has to want to stop doing that stuff on his own......rehab or staying in prizon for several years did not help any of my family but i guess everyones different.
It's about any form of addiction, but probably applies most to depression.
FUCK YEAH I DIDNT KNOW THAT THEY'VE RELEASED A NEW ALBUM THANK YOU ETHELIA. RED FOREVER
It was released back in February. I am so happy they're using their sound from Innocence and Instinct,my favorite of their albums, even though I love all of them.
When you have a dark side, and your partner loves you no matter what...the sword keeps cutting them...keeps breaking their heart.
Those dislikes were obviously by accident
Just the Australians
No. There are at least 3 mistakes. And I'm not the native speaker. I'm really respectful for the band, but the lyrics like this are disrespectful. There are more many means in a single word that we can hear.
So far, this has got to be my favorite album of theirs, and not just because another favorite artist of mine is collaborating with them.
Thanks for uploading!
They difintly have a unquie and creative style in my opinion I think they are a really good group
Which other artist collaborated with them? (Sorry my mind just went blank) :)
Conner Terry Blue Stahli and pretty much every song on his channel was done by himself :)
This song is underrated
This sounds powerful, sounds like good theme song for Iron Fist, because is a character that posesses both the light and the darkness, and what keeps him alive is his intern chi, and also a perfect theme song for Gargoyles, I never watched them, but I searched them through the internet and they look awesome!!
Tay go deep with thare words in this song
Never has there been a song that I could relate to more than this one.
If my depression was a song.
This sounds like my depression saying this
this song may be describing different souls
I think he's talking from 2 perspectives. The Demon within him and him self. In the Bridge, The Screams and Growls are the Demon and his normal voice is himself.
The struggle against sin in the believer's life.
I love this band so much.
4:08
my ......my enemy.
So does any one else hear like in the back ground at 0:20 a person saying, I can hardly breath?
You got to listen carefully.
Or is that just me?
Wow your right it is there and some other words but they are faint so you have to really pay attention to it in the beginning of the song
Mauricio MC Right!
I hear that too but I don't know what it is.
you can also hear hitlers voice
After re listening to the song after I read your comments, it does make sense what your saying.
@clint Brooks. Or I see what your saying.
1:11 Pain is the promise I will keep
Bravo
🎸 great Song
"I left the knife", please. He does that before, you should feel it.
I'm in love with 5:04
This song is me...
Isn't it "You Gave Me Life" ? I read the lyrics on RED's official webpage and it isn't until the final verse where he sings "I Keep You Alive"
Looking at the lyrics It almost seems like its from Depressions point of view? Or is it just me
Samantha Schwertley I see it more as speaking about an uncontrollable rage within someone’s own heart.
I see it like you too because I know what it is
Why does this song remind me of self harm? 😭 Maybe it is the part about the razor...
the song is very interesting, it is played from two point of views, the first is from the view point of a demon, i.e the razor. then once the knife turns the lead singer takes on the role of the victim. The back singer becomes the demon.
@@micah-jonathancole2063 or someone really tired of the BS.
Don't really care for the vocals in this song but I'm in love with the instrumentals! :D
+ProdigalNinja I think the vocals really make this song come alive (pun intended). Especially in the second half.
After coming back to this a year later, I like the vocals more than I did then. It's just sluggish or something.
l love this songs because I get argr a lot
You're fucking 12, the fuck out of here.
@@ThunderTwat
hey hey hey!!.. just because someone's young doesn't mean they can't like this type of music..
@@TELEK1NET1C And judging by your comment, I concluded that not everyone that ISNT young has the brain capacity to get the punchline in what i said to him. Let me dumb it down to you. What the fuck does he get to be angry about all the time when he's fucking 12 years old? His mom made him wear clothes that he doesn't like that much?
@@ThunderTwat, depression, I was diagnosed with depression when I was 13 years old and now I'm 18 and I still have it, so shut up, a kid can perfectly suffer and have this kind of problems although it shouldn't be and it's sad but it happens, I'm not talking about him but it wasn't for you to bahave like that, here the only one without brain cells is you, it seems that your mother didn't educate you well, I'm sorry for you
Anyone else think of Mal? (If you did, you know the Mal I am talking about.)
Firefly's Mal?
inception Mal?
Neko tato total drama?
shit's fuckin epic
Just like as maniac song..
This was always like my least favorite song on this album cause it's one of the best albums of all time in my opinion. This song now is in my head it's still a great song I just think the rest in this cd are better but all of the sudden this one is on my head so it's so hard to pick each song is a little bit better than the other so my.least favorite song from this band is still a good song just like breaking Benjamin bands that cant make bad songs
Shiki vs. Rio in Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners), anyone? It's in the last movie (#7) if anyone's interested...
lol i love those movies, pretty cool to see someone linking them with my favorite band
It reminds me of Amara.
Amara? Anybody...
No idea why KSI listens to this with the type of music he makes. Maybe he doesn't even like what he makes, it just brings in the bills.
Faze bloo anyone?
I just wanna know how this is "christian"?
It's about the things that we keep alive inside us when we know we shouldn't. A Christian life is a life-long struggle with the sin inside of us.
+The Red Layer That's very true. Our Christian walk is a constant negotiation between our "Spirit man" and our "Flesh man". At the same time, we need to know that we have a mediator between the two, which is Jesus. We must know that Jesus is bigger than our mistakes and that He's the solution. I just wanted to add that little bit.
DrChadPlus
RED themselves were proud to quote that they're Christian, and that's the reason they are doing what they're doing. Just because they are a Christian Band doesn't mean that all of their songs convey strong messages about God; sometimes you have to dig deeper.
+Mirrored Whisper they have never actually wrote a song specifically about God either which is good
lesbian Duck Yes they have but people can take it other ways. Lost, Breathe, Take Me Over just to name a few
Am I the only one who hears Hitler in the intro?
I feel like killing some of the people that need to be hurt in this world to these songs form red and this one is my chosen tool of punishment and so torture hahaha lol
now think is that your flesh or spirit talking would God or RED approve of you using this beautiful christian song to hurt people
just a thought
Zach Renshaw I must agree with you. I don't exactly feel entirely comfortable with that response and I'm the least likely to publicly voice my disapproval.
what on earth are you talking about?
so. this is either about an abusive relationship
about god being evil
or about suicidal tendencies
all of which fit these lyrics.
In any case it wouldn't be about God being evil but about the Devil himself who is the evil being since God isn't the evil being and this is a Christian band
Not my type of music this is a dare to listen to it so dislike
Faze bloo anyone?
yesssss
