- Hey guys!! This is a video showing you how to execute a relearn procedure in case you are experiencing rough or high idle issues. Ive heard complaints of people having idle issues after replacing their batter, alternator, or throttle body.
You FORGOT to tell them make sure a/c is off that nothing is on. In the relearn mode. But Great Video. God Bless

wow..after 1 yr ago when this video was made, little did i know this solve my camry's low idle engine (almost died and terrible engine shaking, alway have to put some pressure on the gas to maintain comfortable engine idle) been driving like this since a yr ago.thanks a million man. You save me from a mechanic ripoff telling me to replace throttle body/mass airflow sensor a while ago.
Currently 11 degrees and snowing here in Massachusetts. Replaced my battery. Measured voltage with car running saw it dropping. PANICKED! Replaced alternator outside in the dark (should have diagnosed better from the beginning). Fired it up, measured voltage, all good but noticed unusually low idle. Next day fired it up, voltage dropping after few minutes and idle rpms dropping to stall. FREAKING OUT! All day cleaning connection points scratching my head. Came upon your video. YOU SAVED THE DAY! THANKYOU!

@@RodriguezRepairs My problem with my 2007 Toyota Yaris is that when I start it idles at 2000 RPM and even after it warms up the idle does not go down, what do I do? I thought there was a Idle adjustment on top of the throttle body bu there is not. any suggestions?

Run a few shots of mass airflow sensor cleaner through the air flow sensor.
Let each shot be at least 5 seconds or longer and then let it air dry for about a half hour.
Once it's dry go ahead and replace it.
It's easy to find and take off.
Only use mass air flow cleaner.
Also, replace the fuel filter and blow out your air filter or replace it.

Hey i just replaced the motor on my car and I’m doing the idle reset on a 06 4 banger just wondering what’s your idle time for your car after the reset?
I had the alternator changed last month to my 08 RAV4. When I got it back the idle was very rough almost to a stall. I just tried this relearn procedure and around 3 minutes while idling in drive with the parking brake set, the engine rpm went up and I heard the change occur. I drove it after 5 minutes of the relearn procedure and it runs perfect. I wasn’t able to make it idle rough at all and it idles nice. I’m amazed! Thank you for sharing this.
I had disconnected the battery and my Camry began running rough. The relearn procedure fixed the issue. Thank you.
Just had the battery replaced in my ‘03 Camry and was experiencing low idle rpm leading to the engine stalling. Tried this and let it idle for about 15 minutes, it worked like a charm! Thanks!

This is exactly what my AAA guy did today to my 2011 Toyota Rav 4. After my dead battery was replaced, I drove my car but it started shaking while on idle and then the car wouldn't drive while in the middle of a stop light after idling too long. AAA did these steps to fix the idle issue but I couldn't remember them. Glad to have this video for future reference.

This video is still helping ppl out. I have been dealing with low idle for a month after disconnecting my battery on my 2010 RAV4. It would run 500rpm at idle, not enough to stall but enough to sound and feel like it wanted to. And running the A\C only brought the revs up to 600-700. It sounded and felt rough. How long did you have the problem before the fix here?
So Mr. Rodriguez, I wanted to thank you for this video. My car was running at 20 mph without pressing the gas pedal. It was also going in reverse at 20 mph without pressing the gas pedal. And it was down to 8.8 miles per gallon. I had read and read and searched and searched and watched dozens of videos about Throttle bodies, TPS, IAC, MAF Repairs and replacements. But I was not sure that any of those were the problem. Anyways, my mechanic had cleaned the air filter and some other things but the problem still existed. Then I saw your video and I tried it this morning and eureka! My 2006 Toyota RAV4 no idols at 700 RPM which is exactly where it supposed to be and it was still move but it will not go up the hill and it is working perfect. Someone had told me to check the IAC and that’s what I was doing when I found your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you

Dale mine just started doing the same thing a couple days ago. Idling high enough I can hear it and accelerating way more than it should while I’m not pressing the gas pedal. Really hoping after work I give this a try and it works!!

That's great news, Brad Carter!! I received the same info about vacuum leaks.....and also about the PCV valve
1AZ-FSE engine here ~ removed the "throttle body", cleaned, and fitted back, and it started acting crazy revving on high (1.5k+). didnt block the coolant hoses, manifold started smoking; got me worried!!

I've done this on a couple of 07 Camrys. Did the idle relearn on one recently and it kept stalling out because it was idling so low. It finally quit stalling and the idle was fine. I've never had one constantly stall like that.
Worked perfectly on my wife's 09 Scion xB, as you said I started having issues after replacing the alternator

I had the same problem in my RAV4 after changing the battery and this trick worked perfectly. Only that you have to switch it on and off quite fast, before the initial auto check is made. Thanks for the help!!!

I relearn my lexus is250 2008 model by just drive it around 5km in highway with ac on it relearned itself, now driving great again!
Never disconnect the battery when it’s unnecessary.

Thanks for the fix ! I had the battery changed at an auto parts store like 6 months ago and the Camry was idling low while stopped and in gear , I thought I was going to need a tune up since the fuel system is electronic, never thought about a reset , thanks for the info and posting 👍🏼

Had to replace the battery (also changed the starter motor as I thought that’s was the problem) and on restart, the car kept stalling! which shouldn’t happen on an auto. After replacing generator for my 2007 Camry, it had rough low RPM, idling at around 500. After some driving it was throwing P0138 and P0606, and was stuck at rough idle. Resetting codes would make them back as soon as I try to drive. After resetting the codes, and then following this procedure, it seems to be good, and no codes so far. Fingers crossed. Thank you for this great video, took me a bit of searching until I stumbled on it! Was ready to start ordering O2 sensor and maybe even scrapping my car, as buying new ECU in addition to generator would be too much.

This is such a great video i had this problem where i was idling so low and i would stall when i stop i took it to a shop spent $250 because they fixed somthing else but it some how fixed it and then it was idling bad again after i disconnected my battery so i watched this video and it fixed it mad respect man
I've watched other videos & they start the vehicle on the second ignition cycle but it didn't work. I notice you start the vehicle on the third cycle. I'm going to try this way. Replaced the battery & its been a week. The idle still too low & stalling. Thumb up the vid.

Im about to do this on my 07 avalon. After new plugs, air filter, cleaned maf and pcv replacement i figured why not.

How do u do it on a 2009 corolla 1.8 with manual transmission?
I did relearn then the day after it seems to have same problem again I can't get it to idle long enough for the relearn. Then after trying n trying n even holding the gas pedal under 1000 rpm, still not holding my idel. Then I gave up n tried again about half hour later n it idel good. Now if I put in park for a relearn, she died. Before this, I had my alternator warning light was blinking. Could it be my battery is bad that it is making the ECU unit have to relearn n reset from time to time? I do have corrosion out of my terminal and the battery is 3 years old. Plus my car is only going 50mph up the hill, no power. If I push it to 60, she vibrates bad. Help?

I recently changed my 2009 Toyota Auris' car battery and had no issues whatsoever. When turning the ignition key, the car turned on in a second. No idling issues.

If there is no issues with your Camry after you replaced your battery then you should be fine.

My Camry’08 was fully maintained in UAE by my great son recently. However, afterwards I’ve noticed a high & rough idle (over 1.5 RPM at start-up).
Your very video has given me hope to get it back to its previous excellent condition.

Hey there! Thanks so much for watching! Regarding your question, the process is completely different. It depends from make or model. Some transmission relearns can be done manually but some require a scan tool. Most transmission relearns are done initially after replacing the transmission or the control module. Why do you think you need a trans relearn?

My Camry is the same as the one in your video in here.
Regarding the transmission question, I hear some short noise when it changes from 1st to 2nd (only)… It is like late or refusing to change for about 2 seconds! Transmission oil has been changed last year; and it is normal level-wise & viscosity & color.

The transmission slips even after changing half of the transmission fluid and all engine& tranny mounts, especially in the 3rd gear (auto- transmission). It is 14 years old car with 300K km on it, is there a way to salvage the transmission or any hope to fix the slipping issue?

my battery got stolen, they broke my hood latch, so i kept taking my hattery out so it would not get stolen, when i would put my battery in the idle was running rough for about 10 minutes...just got the latch fixed but hesitant in keeping the battery in over night.. can i do this every night?, .

My wife’s 2008 Camry XLE only idles high first thing in the morning it seems. During normal driving it’s perfectly fine. She did have a new battery installed recently. Could the issue be a leak somewhere as opposed to having the car relearn idle?
Its perfectly normal for a vehicle to idle high on cold start. The idle air control valve opens allowing air to enter the throttle body to maintain the car on high idle for a short period of time
What if my vehicle has a manual transmission how do I do the relearn
When you put it into drive and "leave it" like you said, do you take your foot off the break pedal or keep applying the brake pedal?
you release you foot off the brake pedal. Make sure you apply the parking brake!

I just did this on 2009 Kruger and is idling at around 600 instead of 900. Fingers crossed it has fixed it
How does it respond when you put it in gear? idle?
Rodriguez Repairs nothing special. I had to wait five minutes so mucked about on Facebook and other stuff. After the five minutes it was idling slower and I went for a drive and the tacho was lower than before. When I got back I let it idle in garage and noticed it was lower. To be honest I was surprised. Fuel is normally about 11.5/100k and after last refill is 14.4. I’ve noticed it seems to be revving more in last few months so thought I would google it

Thanks Bud I had no clue this was the issue now I know 😂😂 . Question for you though. My alternator is only putting out 13.3 volts when it should be putting out 13.6 which tells me the voltage regulator may be going bad. What are your thoughts on this?
Its putting out 13.3V with all accessory loads on (AC, radio, headlights etc)?
What do you do when your Toyota Camry is a manual transmission? You can’t put it in gear
you didn't mention but i assume you can't touch the brake pedal? otherwise no need to mess with the parking brake.
The brake should not be pressed. But make sure you apply the parking brake!
My car just had a transmission flush recently and I start to notice at cold start my rpms goes up to 1500, 1600. Never happened before over the years going higher than 1300. I tried what you showed in the video, but it's still going up to 1500 or 1600 at cold start. Is there anything else could be done to lower it?
do the rpms eventually lower to spec? like 750-850?

Step 1. Turn the key tothe on position but do not start it
Step 2. You press your gas pedal in slowly all the way down, wait a second then release
Step 3. Take your key out
Step 4. Start your car now

I had low idle/stall when warm - cleaned the TB, and now idle is high.
Hopefully this will sort it out.
Probably going to need to do it a couple of times.
Noticed the air filter is filthy.
And one of the air intake box bolts is missing.
Update: Idle is still high.
Mind you that's a big improvement over where it was previously, dying not just at lights, but during low speed turns as well, which is the worst time for power steering to go away.

it all depends the symptoms you are experiencing, if they similar to the ones explained in this video, then yes, try this procedure and see if it corrects your issue!!

When you put to emergency brake and shift it to Drive, do you release the brake and let the Emergency brake stop the car for you?
yes that is correct, so you have to make sure your parking brake is fully functional

In. 2009 Toyota Venza 4 cylinder fwd 1.7L setting the parking brake alone will not allow me to put the car in drive. The sticks started feature will not allow it. This technique is a major failure!
Did you keep the Brake depressed while it was running 5 minutes? Or just leave the Emergency Brake on?
Note sure if this is related to what my car is doing but I think I have a throttle response lag on my 07 Camry. I hit the gas pedal quick and it has a delay for about 2 seconds then it revs up. It doesn’t respond right away. Any suggestions or ideas on what it might be? I appreciate it if. Thank you
Hey D Boy, do you have any check engine codes? Id so, what are they? If you have access to a scan tool, see the live data for the throttle % and response. You could be having a faulty throttle body.

If this goes unfixed for a couple days, can it produce Code: P0505?
yes it could cause a idle code, like idle too high, or idle out of range, or erratic idle. Now those codes can also be caused by other issues too, its no always caused by not doing the idle relearn

for manuel transmissions, you have to use a bidirectional scan tool for the relearn

this method cannot be used on a manual transmission. The relearn will have to be done with a scan tool.

My AC clutch keeps cycling after battery change which makes it idle roughly when AC is on. Took it to the mechanic the last time and he reset this with a computer. Is there a way to fix this without the computer?

Rodriguez Repairs it did not have that issue before before the battery was disconnected. The first time it happened was with a battery change a couple of months ago. This time I removed the battery to replace the starter and it did it again. Took it to the mechanic today and he was able to fix it with a scanner. He didn’t charge me anything to do it because it only took him a few minutes so, it wasn’t a big inconvenience. I just don’t want to have to take it to the mechanic every time I disconnect my battery. He wasn’t aware of a way to reset it without a scanner though.
