This review convinced me to get a t400 ( in gray though). Sounds awsome I bought some monster gold plated RCA cables for it and that helped it out evan more. Thanks for the great reviews!!
Enjoy!
I bought this because of your recommendations. Very happy with it! Plus I had a Walmart gift card and paid only 30.00 out of pocket. Got the grey one. Score! Thanks. Keep safe.
Good to hear!
Looks a fab bit of kit....Great video...Nice and simple to understand for anyone getting into this hobby,,,Well,an update on our situation.....The Next All in one unit arrived (Schuman) and just for a pleasant change it was in as good a condition as the ones you open,on your vids..It also works great and is semi automatic turntable with DAB Radio. The Cartridge looks different to the standard red ones normally in these units..Its Grey and a different shape and to my ears gives a great playback. There`s also a basic Equaliser which is helpful....So FINALLY,after many disappointments we have an all in one that we are happy with..Just praying it will now last..especially the tape player ...As always..Love your videos when i get to watch them...Going to get the new 6 in 1 Victrola for the bedroom next....Had that had a DAB Radio..my wife wanted the DAB,We would have had that purchased for downstairs... certainly like the 1950`S look to it,and the way the dial lights up....Cheers for now..Ade
Sounds awesome thank you for the update and for your kind words as always! I’m glad you got your situation sorted! Cheers
hello mr. record-ology, I liked the design and style of this turntable and being fully automatic is even better. the sound seemed pretty decent and even though it is a crosley which I think has improved over the years I would consider buying one of these myself, thanks for another informative review, rob
So I just bought this and can't figure out why I'm getting no sound
That record player looks like a pretty good little unit and it sounds really good as well and keep on spinning that vinyl Record-ology!!!
Thank you!
@@Recordology you're very welcome!!!
Looks like Crosley is upping its game and offering a better selection for people who want more than their typical, often poorly received suitcase models. Glad they're branching out. I believe their higher end models are actually Crosley branded Pro-ject turntables. Great going, Crosley!
The C10 and C20 were developed with Pro-ject. Also take a look at their own mid range units like the C100, C200, R8 and so on....
The front buttons of the Crosley is the same as my Teac PA866 turntable inwhich I've owned since 1995.
Hey there. Thank you for the review on this model.
I am a new subscriber to your channel, and I’d like to ask if you could please elaborate a bit more on certain KEY things for each reviewed unit.
For example, for this particular unit, it would have been helpful for you to reveal how you got sound to emit from the unit - since it does not come with its own speakers.
Were you hooked into wired speakers? Were the speakers self-powered or were they Bluetooth enabled?
Do you ever measure the weight of the stylus/tonearm in order to establish whether they are well balanced to 2.5g (typical) so as not to damage vinyl, etc.?
These little details matter, and I believe to be important in making smart purchasing decisions.
Your thoughts?
These are good record players
That looks like the same basic Hanpin underpinnings as used on the AT LP-60/60x, Aiwa, Sony and I think Denon entry level models, they’ve alright for what they cost... my friend brought an Aiwa variant to me change the belt and stylus, I was surprised how good it sounded when plugged into a Linn active system (which is incredibly revealing of anything you plug into it).
You can chalk that great sound down to the integrated Audio Technica AT3600L cartridge and its unique fat ABS/carbon stylus cantilever. Some of the best tonality, voicing, balance and SLAM to be found at any price. 10+ years ago I came across one of these Hanpin LP60 variants, a Nexxtech LAB-1100-sold at The Source stores in Canada. It's a cheap turntable, sure, but the CARTRIDGE was what left me in such shock and awe when I plugged it into my hifi. I have been a 3600L fan for life.
The AT3600L has found a cult following among the esoteric audiophiles at AudioKarma-a cult following which itself has exploded into the mainstream-and one much-deserved. It's a low compliance cartridge, meaning it realizes its fullest potential on medium-high mass tonearms-and yet it's still shocking how GREAT it sounds on the LP60 tonearm, which is LOW-MASS!
If you need to replace the belt, you will have to take the platter off again. The controls are similar to the Audio-Technica LP-60.
I think the shape of that 45 adapter is supposed to be a letter "C" for Crosley. BTW you have a really clean kitchen!
Lol thank you!
This should sound good through my 1991 Realistic receiver and 1990 Onkyo speakers.
Nice brother of AT LP60/Marantz TT5005/Denon DP 29F with more professional-looking headshell. Nice try mr. Crosley! Looks good.
Hello! I just got this in the same colour, however I’m having problems with the sound. I have plugged in two speakers and it still doesn’t have much noise. Is there a certain type of speaker required? Thanks!
Neat it looks up to par with the Audio Technica LP 60. Also did you get to check out the mini turntable by MPK or Music Public Kingdom model TT251. I just got mine in the mail today and it is a lot of fun to use the only thing I had to do was oil the motor a bit because there was some wow and flutter on the 33 speed. Once I oiled it it works like a charm. I will be putting a better speaker inside since I have some soldering skills :)
Very cool. Did they send you a sample?
Nope I just bought it with my own money on Amazon for $30. It is still worth my purchase. I have been listening to quite a few of my 45's using the headphone out. I also replaced the needle with a better diamond one. Good news is I measured the tracking force with my digital scale and it tracks at a low 4 grams which is ideal for the chuo denshi cartridges. I also made a USB adapter so I can power it with a cellphone external battery brick so it is a true battery portable. :)
Wow good job!
Thanks. I might make a video of it after the mods so you can hear for yourself if it is a model you would ever pick up and play with. As a 45 collector myself I find it a neat retro and useful tool for listening to a box of 45's on my lunch break using the headphone out. :)
Once I replace the internal speaker with a better sounding one It might become a portable I will play on the deck or at picnics in nice weather :)
Any clue on how to adjust speed with what is available underneath? My t400 spins at 34 rpm. I clocked it and it definitely is noticeable on most lps I play. Graaacias 🤙🏻
Look for speed trip pots underneath....
Help mine the needle keep going up && down it won't stay on the record..why??
That 45 RPM adapter design reminds me of a Superhero insignia.
looks like Crosley has raised their game, but there are comparable turntables in similar price range but this might be a good starter for someone new to vinyl?
I would agree.
Super cool! I'm getting a turn table next month!
I still want a Crosley record changer.
If I could suggest....
The Crosley Stack-o-Matic is long out of production. Crosley licensed a BSR design (the same basic design they made from like 1968 until the mid-1980s), and adapted it for belt drive with a DC motor. I.e.; NOT the best example of a changer, and the ones you'll find now are used.
Since you'll be getting a cost-cutter version of a BSR anyway, why not consider just getting a real BSR? The originals were built very reliable and are insanely easy to service, had reliable AC synchronous motors, and most of them came with flip styluses (just flip the stylus over for 78s!). You can usually get one for around $70 in good condition on fleabay. Get one from the early 1970s and odds are it'll be far superior to Crosley's version of it.
Just a suggestion.
I GOT IT I LOVE IT
Awesome!
Hey Record-ology, you still have this particular turntable by Crosley the Crosley T400 Automatic Turntable? I like this one and the Collegiate, C3, C6, and the Spinnerette. I recently just purchased one of this same model T400 and same exact color the White Turntable from a eBay seller for $42.00 plus shipping $12.99 altogether full total $54.99. It was special offer on it. So I said what the Hell and go for it. Lol.
Awesome enjoy!
@@Recordology Thanks Record-ology! Have a great week!
It is a shame they do not supply this with an AT-VM95C as it is cheap but can also be upgraded to a much higher level.
am i gonna need a speaker? Or it had a built in speakers?
Hi! Thanks for this great review. Do I need a separate speaker/sound bar to amp up the sound?
Thank you! No this unit does not have speakers. But its a good little unit.
@@Recordology so do i need speakers? because mines super quiet
@@ashaholthaus2850 Yes, you need speakers and an amplifier (either a separate amp, or one built into your speakers). As a general rule, I recommend you avoid turntables with built in speakers anyway.
So how do you adjust the volume on this? I have the t-400 but it sounds really low... am I just placing the needle incorrectly?
Check the preamp / line switch on the back.
I guess the lady at the beginning of your video was having a bad day or wasn't a fan of that record but totally agree with her lol
😂 That lady who broke that record is from some movie where she's angry about something. I forget what movie and why she got mad.
Hi, is the same at Audio Technica LP60 and is clon Aiwa's music system turntables.
Actually NOT a clone. Very different when seen side by side. I will do a VS. show on this topic soon.
Did you plug in the turntable into some speakers for it to sound like that?
Good question - yes I did - powered speakers or a stereo are required.
@@Recordology So you do have to have to have it connected to speakers correct? There is no built in speaker????
Tim Crim Correct
I have the same record player but when I plug it in it makes really high pitched noise! Helpp! (i have speakers hooked up)
This turntable is very close to a Pioneer PL-990.
Hey Record-ology, Good News! I got my hands on the Crosley T400 and was delivered by FedEx today! It's in good condition and all. But the only downside is? That I think I damaged one of my favorite David Bowie records ☹️ by accident? I checked the tracking force on the stylus from the cartridge that supposed to be the accurate 3.5 grams of tracking force. But it went above as 4.4 grams and it was skipping? The back of the tonearm is only controlled by a spring. I wish Crosley would have specialize a counterweight with this Turntable? How was you able to play the records just fine without any issues? Any ideas? Let me know. I will buy another David Bowie Station To Station LP on the RCA label.
Interesting. I’m not sure other than mine Seemed to work fine. You mentioned that it went above 4.4 do you know how much higher?
@@Recordology Hi Record-ology, Thanks for the reply! I mean when I checked the Tracking Force with the Guage it actually said 4.45 highlighted. The record player works well and function like it supposed to. It only skips the 1st track and sometimes on the 2nd track as well 🤔? I didn't buy the T409 directly from Crosley? I bought it from a decent seller from eBay about 3 days ago and got it 3 days later. Which was today. Maybe I can e-mail Crosley and get some advice on how the spring can be adjusted? When you got yours last year. You never had no issues or skips playing your records? Thanks again. Keep spinning those records and I will be sure to donate to your channel. It's lit 🔥💯.
I think you measured the weight wrong you’re supposed to measure the stylus pressure at the same level as it would sit on a record because the higher you raise the stylus the more the spring pushes it down
I found the FCC report for the T400 turntable: fccid.io/2ANXU-T400D It is manufactured by Jiayinking (JYK) and appears to be a copy of the Hanpin mechanism used by Audio-Technica. The T400D is a version of it with Bluetooth output that hasn't been released yet.
The mechanisms are identical.
can you use this without speakers?
When i play it why is the music so low, how do i make it louder
how do you skip a song and will it break when i move it, please respond and nice vid
Pressing the cue button will raise the tone arm so you can rotate it to the song you want. No damage will be done.
what type of speakers did you use?
my wife just bought me this and i’m having a hard time finding some speakers
I recommend the Crosley s100's
Whats the tracking Force?
Hey nice vid. Probably a beginner question but, on that exact slipmat for the t400, mine like yours has the design and some rougher debossed material. can i flip it over and use the other felt side as it is more flat without that rough material? Thanks!!
Yes that should be fine.
Can any record with no counter weight bring problems eventually for the vinyl records?
All depends on the tracking force. This one like many use a spring loaded counterbalance.
finally, crosley rebranded audio technica or technics design besides these suitcases ones. (we know why suitcases is not so good but the real problem is the lid of the suitcase rubbing against the record.)
Why does mines volume so low and how do i turn it up?
What speakers do you recommend for the Crosley that has 2 aux ports
We haven't reviewed too many speakers yet. I do like the PreSonus Eris 4.5 however….they are wonderful. amzn.to/2X6P73v
Where is the on off switch? Great unboxing vid ❤
There actually isnt one!
looks like a Hanpin FU 700 (AT LP60, Aiwa PX E850 etc...) but with some differences, is this still a Hanpin turntable?
I believe so.
Can someone tell me if this has built in speakers. Or can it connect to a Bluetooth speaker. I think I may have to return it for those reasons. I need those features
No built in speakers....this has to be connected to a stereo or powered speakers.
Does this have an amp inside it? Or just the preamp?
Just a preamp.....
my volume on my mine doesnt play loud so i have no clue what to do
The arm onn my new t400 lands on the edge of the record not on the grooves. Is there an adjustment I can make or should I send it back?
Hey welcome to the channel! Thanks for commenting! Unfortunately we are not setup to handle tech support inquiries on equipment we review. Our recommendation is to checkout our older videos or to contact the manufacturer. Have a great day!
@@Recordology ok
Do you have external speakers plugged into this?
Yes - there are none onboard.
Where are the speakers at on that thing? Do I have to buy separate speakers ?
Requires powered speakers….
I think this is very similar to the Audio Technica LP60.
Yes it is! And in fact we did a side-by-side comparison video.
Record-ology Nice! I’ll have to check it out.
what kind of speakers could i use with it?
I have the same question!
Is this better than the Crosley cruiser deluxe? Or do they have the same problems ?
This is better but requires speakers.....
@@Recordology will it make no sound at all without a separate speaker or will it be quiet
So I’m completely new to the vinyl game. My girlfriend just got me the Crosley t400 and i don’t know how to operate it. Do I need to purchase speakers for it? Or does it work with out them? I don’t see any speaker holes so I’m assuming you do. But am not sure. Can anyone help? Lol
Welcome to the wonderful world of vinyl! Correct the T 400 does require external speakers that are either self powered or are connected through an amplifier/receiver.
Where can we get your shirt? I love it.
Thank you! I got that at Old Navy.
So it does not have a built in speaker?
Correct....
This looks to be for the most part, a clone of the previous generation AT-LP60. And that's not a bad thing.
Until you get them side by side! P.S. Show coming on that exact topic in the future!
This is basically a 1 to 1 replica of an lp60
Actually they share internals (some) but they are quite different otherwise!
@@Recordology ok, while ur here, Lp60 or house of marley stir it up, not considering price
What is the spacer for?
Playing 45s
Just got my unit and it won't turn on. Am I missing a power button or is my unit DOA?
Hmmm call Crosley.....should power on right away.
@@Recordology Thanks for the reply. Returned to Amazon, replacement is on the way!
Sir, how many ur """ TURNTABLE""" u have???🎅
Crosley... now made by Audio Technica rebadged as Crosley.
Lol no. Crosley and Audio Technica always made by Hanpin Turntables.
Just plugged mine I can barely hear the music 🎵....
Requires powered speakers or a stereo with a line input.
Mines Bluetooth function but having hard time pairing it
Did you figure it out I need help
Plz respond, is it affordable, and does it ruin my records 😟🙏
It is affordable and it will NOT ruin your records!
@@Recordology thank you🕺👍
@@Recordology one more question, is this better than the crosley cruiser and how do you restart a song, thank you
yeah how do you restart a song
@@dcac4959 you restart a song by picking up the tone arm and moving it back to the beginning
"Very lightweight so it's easy to get in and out of places." This is NOT a portable table. If you want that, get a suitcase style. Ideally, you want a heavy plinth to reduce vibration.
He means if you move it to a new house or room, its easy to move it.
No tracking force or anti skating adjustment? Guess that's expected for a POS Crosley.
It's all preset just like the AT-LP60.
@@Recordology So no changing to a different cartridge.
@@scharkalvin On this one, you CAN change the cartridge. But since tracking and anti-skate are preset at approx 3.5g, you'll need a cartridge that works within that range.
Scharkalvin This is a beginners turntable not a high end component turntable so you won’t get an adjustable counter weight or replaceable cartridge but for the money it’s a great turntable for someone just starting out
But Crowley turntables have a bad reputation, I hope this turntable is durable.
Mine is not loud help
Make sure the switch on the back is set to line level.....
What do you have it connected too?
@@Recordology we have to connect it to a speaker?
@@rosario2172368 It has to be an amplified speaker (or an aux-in of a stereo system), and in most cases you will need the output of the turntable set to LINE. If you have it connected to a PHONO input of a stereo, set the switch on the back of the turntable to PHONO.
Audio technica design copy
Except I don't think that design is an Audio-Technica original. These type turntables are made by a company called Hanpin.
picked this up for 6 bucks.
I don't get it why do I need a speaker and this guy doesn't. If I need to buy one I'm just returning this
I had speakers off camera.
Audio technica has saved crosley's
Actually not made by AT.
@@Recordology It's obviously based on the same design as the AT-LP60 though.
@@purplesabbath9057 The basic design dates back to the 1980s, I believe, and was sold under many different names with various cosmetic variations. The nice thing about this particular iteration is you have the option to go with a different cartridge, though you'll have to stick with one that works with about 3.5g, since that's what the tracking and anti-skate are factory set for and non-adjustable.
I dislike those "c" clips.
They can be hard to get back on.
This isn't much of a review, more of an instruction manual.
if anyone’s selling a crosley t400 in white reply here, i’m willing to buy 😭
can you use this without speakers?
