My first player was a kids Imperial Play Time. My favorite TT is my Technics SL D2 but it was used and non functioning when I got it and needed a new cart/stylus which cost 3x more than I paid for the TT. My #2 favorite is my new Crosley Cruiser Deluxe. I also have a TT SL-B2 and a Montgomery Wards all in one unit that I simply refuse to play any records on. I'd let the Cruiser touch my vinyls before I would let the Wards unit touch them.
First player was a ION Profile LP. Which actually wasn't as bad as everyone told me it was.
Favorite turntable is a Cybernet CP200. Found at the dump, pulled it from the trash. Disassembled, cleaned it up, tested and replaced cartridge with an Ortofon Omega 1e cartridge (didnt know if it would work, wanted to not spend alot on it). Abd now it's an amazing piece.
My first record record player was a monophonic suitcase record from the Symphonic budget brand. It was not near as nice as the suitcase record players of today. My mother saved Green Stamps for several months to get it. I was as happy as could be. I could now talk to the other kids about records. Records were a big thing to young teens back then. That was in the summer of 1967 when I was 12. A lot of times we have to start with something basic and work our way up. We learn to appreciate things more. At least we used to.
Can you replace the cartridge if you needed or wanted to ?
My Granddaughter is 15 yrs old and is working her first job in a grocery store. Last year she saved her money and bought me a Crosley combination old time radio turntable with a built-in CD player. I have it sitting between the Sansui AU-717 amp I'm using as my pre and my hand-built tube amp and Technics turntable that feed into my Klipsch Heritage series speakers. She got it because she wanted me to have some way to play my 78's. She is an angel.

I'll agree with this. I bought a C100 (a Technics 1200 clone) for its feature to affordability ratio, and I've been thoroughly impressed with it. The construction is on the cheaper side, but for the money, it's a fantastic turntable.

@darealdsisaac Thier good tables are built by Pro Ject or Hanpin. If they have a magnetic cartridge then that should be OK as well. With that said if your spending 30 bucks on new reissues then the red cartridge are not going anywhere near mine.
Black Wax I’m a music lover first and an audiophile second, I enjoyed my music on an old BSR deck (almost as terrible as a Crossley Cruiser) when I was 9 years old... I’ve amassed a significant collection of records since then and having a five figure system to play them on is a worthwhile investment in my opinion.

Never liked Hi fi snobs. It's great seeing younger people getting into music with their Crosleys just like I did with my little mono player back in the 70s.
If you want fine quality turntables then look up Electrohome Premium on CZcams. They are a thousand times better than Crosley.

Highly doubtful. I hate hipsters, but shitty tt's from the 70's are still cheap. The verdict is in and with the internet you can find out what is the best of the best and why, THEN over pay for it on Ebay. Won't happen with the amount of these they pump out. Also these won't work well, if at all, in 20 years.

When I started collecting vinyl I did a lot of research and ended up with a AT LP60 for less than $100. It was a great first record player. Then, once I hit owning over 100 records I started shopping around for a serious turntable and dropped over $750 on a much nicer one. But that was 2 years into the hobby. I would never encourage someone to spend anything more than $100 if you're just getting started. Spend on my records!!

I started with a crosley suitcase turntable in 2011 and it got me into the whole record collecting and appreciation, you’ve got to start somewhere and decide of its for you. I now have a technics sl 1200 mk2, ortofon 2m bronze and I look back on the early days having fun with the crosley
Came here for a review for this piece, as I'm trying to get started in vinyl. I'm a musician of near 30 years and finally want a set up of my own. And I have to say, this was the most pleasant, unbiased review of literally any musical product I've considered purchasing. And I've purchased a lot. Thank you.
Very good - very sensible as always. I would go a bit further and say that if all you can afford is the very cheapest entry level turntable (from any manufacturer), if the alternative is not listen to vinyl at all, then go ahead and get one. Sure, it won't sound as good as a more expensive turntable; it may eventually damage your records at some point, but that logic (expensive things are usually better than cheaper ones) applies to most things in life. Some people correctly say you can get a second hand turntable with better specifications that an entry level new one, but many of us are nervous of buying used gear when you don't know what you're doing. If you buy a new anything and it doesn't work as advertised, the seller has to replace or refund, which is not always the case with second hand items. The only one who has to enjoy or love your system is you - well said!
I have the Crosley Rochester, got it 10 years ago. I moved around like a nomad for a couple years about 5 years ago and I always lugged that heavy baby with me. It never broke and still plays perfectly. Slight static when I first turn it on but doesn’t happen again unless I adjust the volume.

When I grew up I wasnt audio spoiled and options were limited.
I had a cassette player and cheap headphones that hurt your ears due to the fact that the padding came off.

I initially got into collecting records when one of my old teachers gave me one of his turntables when he retired. It was a Crosley Cruiser Executive. It got me really into collecting and it was fun. It was also free for me lmao. Then recently I started being more active on forums and CZcams, and I became ashamed of my starter turntable. Today (15th of September) was my birthday. I was informed by my parents that they ordered me the turntable I’ve been wanting. A u-Turn Orbit. I’m incredibly excited, but after watching this video, I’m a bit ashamed of myself for feeling dumb and embarrassed of my starter turntable. The audiophiles really ruined it for me for a while, and I appreciate this video. I was just 11 when I got that record player, it served me well. Thank you for cleaning my self-shame. There’s nothing I should’ve been ashamed of.
I've a Rega Planar 2 since 1996 and it's superb!
It was good to see someone clean a record the right way, from the outer edge to the inner following the grooves. also, that speed change is the same as the Rega range.

That Vinyl Guy Vinyleyezz is the worst channel I’ve seen so far. Here’s my opinion. There’s nothing new in his videos and he over-fragments everything to get more money so watching the channel is very annoying. At the same time other channels can tell you all the basics in one video without Vinyleyezz’s smug and self fart sniffing.

I unsubscribed that guy long time ago. Doesn't give interesting information that much much like this guy does. Why give a personal feedback and hate to something you haven't tried? It's like basing the looks, price, what you've read on the internet and what other just said. I haven't own a Crosley but I'm open minded. Everything has a reason and maybe crosley are selling and targetting some type of people, the budget and purpose. How can we eliminate hate from the world if we are doing, practicing and tolerating hate?

I love this dude! Watched all of his videos and so far I agree with everyone of them! When I first got into vinyl I didn't even have a turntable, everyone told me not to buy a Crosley Cruiser but I did anyway because I wasn't sure that this hobby was one I fully wanted to pursue as of yet, I wanted to just get something to get a feel of the water understand how all of this worked and then from there I would upgrade my system if I felt like it was something I wanted to do, I'm glad to say that it is something I wanted to do and something I have done and I do not regret buying a Crosley whatsoever even though I no longer use it LOL

My first turntable was actually one of these suitcase style turntables, although it wasn’t by Crosley. (I believe it was Victrola.) The thing was terrible and I gave it away the exact same day I got it. The thing skipped on every record I played and had a very uneven speed.
...But you know what? It actually made me anticipate my second upgrade (The AT-LP60) that much more. I was excited to finally get to listen to my records and experience them the right way.
So while I suppose you could say my experience with these types of turntables wasn’t the best, it actually helped in the long run. It made me realize that this was going to me a hobby that I’d enjoy. So for that, I have to give it applause.
@Cristo Morales you actually don't have to spend that much money. You can easily find a used technics turntable for like 80-120€ and it will actually be better than a new modern one for 200€
@Cristo Morales Go for a rega p1. The best around its price, easily the best begginer turntable. It was my first turntable and upgraded to p6 to p8.
I would say the U Turn is the best starting TT for beginners. Customizable, affordable, and decent aesthetic. You can change cartridges and it sounds just fine. Enough quality to provoke a deeper interest in vinyl and not shitty to the point it will turn people off.
Though my Mom's 1970 Panasonic/National console stereo is old but still unbelievably sounds good upto this moment...anyway thank you for sharing your thought s about your own Crosley turntables☺

THIS IS my FIRST TURNTABLE. We got it on sale January and worked from there to set up a nice new home system(s).
I broke my Audiotechnic needle and they just sent me one when I called. I HAVE THIS C6 and I am sticking to the company.
I do HATE the platter and mat, but mine has a speed selection on the top. It wasn't working correctly, so they just sent me a new one. I simply (ha ha) had to pack it up nicley and send it back to them first.
The 2 minute blutooth at power up before shut-off messes with my Sony STR-DH790 receiver sometimes. ugh.

You are absolutely right. We have a tendency evaluate other people based on the things they can afford to buy. If all you can afford in a record player is a Crosley Cruiser then get to play your records until you can afford better. Selling better turntables at a reasonable price is a good move for the Crosley brand image. At that price point the manufacturer can afford to include a speed change switch and on/off switch on the front. Just an opinion from videos in the past. I don't know Crosley makes the products they sell. A lot of today's electronics are made by overseas manufacturers that makes products for many companies so companies that sell turntables and other gear may not actually manufacture their products.
Crosley has since upgraded these with a top mount speed switch on the 2022 models

Hell yeah dude. I have one portable I use for traveling. It’s fine. Some other guy on CZcams proved that the swingarm weight on Crosley cruiser doesn’t hurt your records anyway.

You know what? I just bought a Cruiser. I already collect, and I have a fairly sturdy setup. I bought it so I could listen to records while cleaning/doing schoolwork/taking it to a friend's house/doing things that require me to be away from my main setup. It sounds...exactly like how you'd expect. lol But there's a charm to it, it looks beautiful, and I bought it for the portability and to make tedious tasks like cleaning and doing research for master's level courses a little more enjoyable. And it does just that. It's not audiophile grade, but it has a charm to it and serves its purpose. I had a turntable no better than this when I first started collecting, and my records play fine.
In those cases i just listen digitally

I came across one of these yesterday on the clearance isle at Walmart. It's the newer version with the speed selector switch on the plinth. My old Optimus LAB1000 has developed a squeak and I just don't have the spare cash to buy the Fluance RT85 that I want at the moment.... but I could easily handle the $96 Wally World wanted for this C6. After watching this video I decided to give it a shot. I was surprised at heavy the platter was when I took it out of the box, and it does look pretty nice. I did have to make a ground wire to connect it to my Denon receivers' phono input, but that was easy. Overall, it sounds better than the old Optimus and will definitely keep me happy till I can get what I really want. Thank you.
I just got a Optimus LAB1000 from my Dad's estate. It has the Audio Technica needle and stock cart. Should I be worried it will harm my records? Or should I put it in storage and buy something better? It sounds fine to me. Thank you in advance for your reply.

In the UK I purchased a Brand new Ricahtec Suitcase player for £37 , and it plays great , plays the records I want to play , yes I know it's not as good as a Record player and speakers costing 7-8 times as much , but I don't care , I love it and enjoy using it

I have a late model C6 with a cheaper matte black finish I recently got new off Ebay for $98 and it was fine as is - but then I went back on ebay for some upgrades. I added a nice heavy silicone rubber mat made by Ywhomal and upgraded the stock conical stylus to a number 4211-DE Pfanstiehl elliptical stylus listed for the C6's AT3600L cartridge and the sound is even better and tracking seems better as well. I was already pleased with the C6 as-is, but between the nice rubber mat for better damping of the platter and record and the elliptical stylus upgrade im now -very- pleased with my C6, my only other addition is a small platter weight about a half pound - its the familar style black aluminum with a bubble level and strobe markings on top. My ONLY gripe is I wish it was auto stop but it doesnt have that feature and I knew that when I bought it and im still very pleased. I highly suggest the elliptical stylus upgrade and platter mat, really adds to the listening enjoyment.
I got the crosley c6 turntable and I was so excited. It is my first record player. My friend and I finally got it to work and as we were looking up videos to set it up we were tripping out because we saw all these vids and posts talking about how crosleys screw up your records. But thats just the cheap suitcase ones that dont have a counterweight. I sighed a breath of relief. Also, we were going to get the victrola all in one record player and Im so glad we didnt. We joked saying it would prob scratch our records and eat our cassettes.

I just got mine today and i’ve seen a lot of people saying they scratch the records as you said, but how has yours been? did they get scratched?
If you can find a good 80's model that works and is operational go that route. But if you don't want to tinker with old hardware, you're on a budget or just want to get started with vinyl to see if it's something you like then Crosley is a great option. I know this may come as a surprise to some but there are more people without record players than working 80's turntables.
I bought the Crosley C6 while waiting for my Fluance RT-81 to get shipped due to Covid back order .
The Crosley was $99 at Walmart , cheaply made but it did work and sounded ok first what it is. After playing it for maybe 3 hours of use the music sounded a few RPM to slow , with no way to adjust the speed this thing became useless.
Didn't bother me as I never intended to keep it anyways and just returned it.
It's always about the music. My first turntable was a general electric all metal portable with fold out speakers. It got me started into the world of music and jazz. I played my miles davis kind of blue, bill evans portrait in jazz and dave brubecks time out. That was in the early sixties. In later years i had oracle, vandersteen, audio research, smeV etc...like you said it starts by enjoying your music and your system!
Just snatched two of these from Walmart on clearance for $31.00 each... Christmas presents for sure :-)

Great video but I'm surprised Audio Technica wasn't mentioned. I picked up a LP60 model for around 125 bucks and that was my first player. It worked like a dream and it had a much easier way to switch speed settings.
Crosley does make some good starter tables but I'd still put my money on AT.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews Amazon has the Audio Technica LP-60 without blue tooth for $89 and has them on sale occasionally for $79. My guess is that the innards are very similar to the Crosley that you reviewed in the above video. I can't wrap my head around the concept of running vinyl through blue tooth, but that's me. My guess is that the guts of the LP-60 are the same as the Crosley in your video. The additional cost went into the plinth and making it look a bit cooler. I have a LP-120 as my primary turntable and love it. When I have some extra cash, I may delve into a more sophisticated turntable, probably vintage, but for now, I couldn't be happier.

Crosley's version of the AT-LP60 is the new T400. The C6 model shown in this video does not share any parts with the AT-LP60, except for the cartridge it uses.

When I started getting into vinyl 2 years ago, i bought the cheap suitcase ones. after some more research and saving, I found the crosley T150 turntable that comes with a lot of good features for a £150 turntable that includes speakers.
Recently i swapped out the speakers for the edifier 1280db, and the noticeable change was instant and breath-taking. It proves that you can get good turntables from crosley for a decent price.
However tonight i ordered the LP120x, so I'll be interested to see if i can hear any differences between the two players.
I wish more vinyl youtubers looked into the T150, I'm curious to know what they think of it
I have the Crosley DJ-100 that comes with the 1/2” audio technica cartridge/stylus ..adjustable tonearm, etc, pitch, led tracking light, direct drive ..and I love it ..hooked up to a late 80s early 90s pioneer component system and vs120 speakers and sound is amazing ..I’ll upgrade this cartridge when I need to..but sound is very clear, highs, lows and mids ..I grew up with Sony, technics, and audio technica with my father and this reminds me of back in the day ..this was a bday present from my gf and I love the look and style, and the weight and build is solid.! Nothing feels cheap on this guy at all.!!

Got a $30 Crosley and played Eagles on it last night. First turntable experience. Only con was the sound quality from the budget built in speakers. Happy with the $30 i spent. Would love a US made turntable for my future collection
Kudos to you, Sir. This video and the content in it is totally accurate and I appreciate you going against the snobby grain of “audiophiles” in recommending folks who have or want Crosley to be proud of it instead of hiding in shame as some would prefer. People forget that there are some who can not justify spending hundreds or more on music equipment. Those who enjoy their entry level turntables and second hand units from thrift stores are no less vinyl enthusiasts than those with high end components. Again; thank you!

People fail to give them due credit.
Why you ask?
Because these suitcase units regardless of brand had a massive hand in the current lp boom.
Think about it.. a few years ago when these came out and was a holiday promo for box stores they caught on..
By doing so they turned a new generation onto viynl and hifi in general.
Later they was available year round not just seasonally and kids and ild timers alike started picking them up.
Which meant they needed albums to play on them .
Now most people who got serious upgraded and thats that.
But either way they was the spark behind the latest boom
I was one of the people who cautioned against Crosley. However, let me state a couple things:
1. For years and years, Crosley offered _only_ plastic record players with ceramic cartridges. When you say Crosley, that's what usually comes to mind. The magnetic cartridge turntables are relatively new and are certainly suitable for "hi-fi" use.
2. To this day when you see a Crosley record player in stores, it's generally one of the cheap retro models. People need to know there's a difference.
I applaud Crosley's move upmarket. I'd like to banish those plastic record players forever, not because of how they sound (buy whatever you're happy with) but because they're hard on records.
1. Crosley has been selling record players with a magnetic cartridge for over a decade now. 2. Victrola has taken over the low-end retail market; Crosley is already selling the T150 at Barnes & Noble and the T400 at Target, both of which use the same AT3600 magnetic cartridge as this turntable. 3. Even the ceramic-cartridge ones aren't as hard on records as you might think; tests have shown only minor wear after playing a record *100 times* on one of them, which is far more than most people will ever play the same record before they get tired of it.

You said that so perfectly. You would have thought Crosley would have offered a high grade suitcase model with a magnetic cartridge and anti scating. How much extra could that have really cost? Reminds me when just about every console stereo had a ceramic cartridge back in the 1960's and 1970's and people paid hundreds of dollars for those. Lucky my Sylvania console stereo has a magnetic cartridge...and an 8 track player! Magnavox was the biggest offender. Charging old people $1000 for a beautiful wood cabinet console stereo only to employ a ceramic cartridge.
My C6 has a speed control rocker switch on the left top corner, got mine recently from ebay its the brand new walmart version without the gloss finish for $98 and free shipping and overall my only complaint is the lack of an sntiskate setting, but it seems to work as good as I can expect for what it is. Overall im impressed for an entry level, im 62 and ive got some pretty nice stuff from back in the day like a Harman kardon T40, but it was much more expensive. One thing I was extremely impressed with was how heavy the platter is-!!! The thing is a friggin door stop, lots of weight and mass, id rather have a rubber mat instead of felt but thats easily changed -- my verdict even as one who owns vintabe tables this is a great entry level choice especially if you get one for $98 off ebay brand new like I did, its a bargain in todays world.

This is a fine model of any of the crosley I ever had to deal with . I have the c6 model with the 33 to 45 rpm switch and it has blue tooth connectivity which i do not use . I prefer my line out but she isn’t bad at all
They actually changed ur first criticism with newer models now they added a switch that changes speeds so you don’t need to remove the platter! This was the only “good” turntable I could find in my area and I love it!

Amen to this video! I've collected all kinds of players: new, restored, expensive antique vintage players, etc. Crosley is simply a budget player...and so what? My first turntable was an LP12 , eventually had ittok tone arm and asaka cartridge . that was back in the 80's . long story short I now have a rega planar 8 with apheta 3 cartridge .
I just bought my 3rd turntable in my lifetime. All 3 have been Technics. My last Technics I bought in 1984 still works fine a SL-QX300. I had plenty of substandard record players before I made it to my 1st technics. Hopefully the new people coming in will stay with it and move up to better quality equipment and enjoy spinning records!! I finally got a SL1200GR. Enjoy the journey!!
When I got into the whole record experience I had a ION USB turntable that was giving to me by a friend. Ease of use on that table, to this day was unmatched👍. No setup required. Plug and play. It didn't sound bad. But I got tired of everyone that saw it telling me how it was killing records with it's "tons" of grams on the record surface. Which when measured was 5.2g.
I bought the Crossley C6B BK as my first real turntable and immediately hated it. It was a pain in the butt to set up. Literally the tone arm kept floating back towards the rest. Got my level out and shim the feet, leveled completely. Still towards the rest. Check the weight on the stylus. It said 3.5g in the manual. That's where it was set.
Frustrated I put it away. Bought a used turntable on OfferUp. Yup, got something completely different. Was the same table. But the picture must have been way older. Duct tape all over the plinth. Oh and this is how I found out TT's don't ship well! Back to the ION. Ahh, ease of use.
One day walking through Target with the wife. Sat a black and gold TT. No model number. Said Heyday. As it turns out, (been discontinued) It has a cousin at BestBuy under the Insignia name. The Crossley fails at missing Antiskate adjustments. This one has Antiskate. Now, for $99 it is what it is. But, again. Easier to set up and use. Also, built in Preamp sounds better than the Crossley. So fast forward and I now have 2 systems needlessly setup side by side. A complete Cybernet system with direct drive record player which I fixed up (the disaster I ordered on OfferUp), and a Technics SL-220 I found in my parents basement. Must have been left by my brother. That one was a basket case as well. I fixed that one too. I love both by the way.
So back to the Crossley. I hate spending money on things that don't work correct. So I put it across the bench pulled it apart to figure out, WHAT is going on with it. Well, here it is.
Tamper proof glue, rubbery stuff, dripped right over the spindle on the pivot of the tone arm. The glue was pulling the arm backwards towards the rest. I scraped that off. Installed a VM95C and set the tracking to 2.0g.. Double checked my setup and gave it a spin. This is when I realized the preamp sucks. I got a Bellari VP29 preamp for Christmas. So I hooked it up to the Technics and put my Pro-Ject Phono Box on the Crossley. Finally, fixed!
This got me thinking about the world of Audiophiles and their, It's my answer and only mine mentality. The Crossley I bought was a nightmare. The only thing that kept me listening through this nightmare was the Ion USB. Otherwise, I would never gotten into, or where I am now. My brother now has the Ion USB. Has asked for a recommendation on a cheap table. I told him Fluance RT80 or UTurn Obit Basic. That was my journey. And it truly sucked!
Tell them the truth!!! maintain your budget even if we all love vinyl!

I was always under the impression that when the cartridge has way more to do with sound that the turntable. Turntables are an interface, record caring, noise limiting device. I've never been able to A-B turntables with the same cartridge by ear unless they were separated in price by double their cost. But ... I could be wrong.
Order of importance affecting sound quality:
1. Turntable itself
2. Tone arm
3. Cartridge
4. Cabling

Great video. And they make much better turntables as well. Just avoid the suitcase models and you'll be fine. Not that they'll destroy your records, but because you can get such better tables for just a bit more. Audiophiles forget that not everyone is an audiophile. I've been critically listening to music for decades and I thank GOD every day that I am NOT one. All that said, FOR ME the sweet spot is in the 250-300 dollar range. That's good enough for me.
im a record player noob, i got a crosley c6b. i didn't know i needed speakers for it. it has a switch to change the speed on it . i didn't know there were record player snobs out there
A lot of people in the comments calling people snobs for wanting to hear a good frequency response. Frequency response is what matters, for example a 65 dollar pair of Phillips shp9500 headphones stomp on most 300 dollar headphones on the market because most don't have a flat frequency response. If there was a 65 dollar turntable that had a flat frequency response I'd prefer it over a 300 dollar turntable one that did not. Most would agree if they sat down and took the time to study different types of frequency responses by switching back and forth between them. People think they're a "bass head" until they understand the detail they lose, then they understand they'll understand the meaning of "muddy". I don't want to lose base, I just don't want it to overpower anything else, I want it at the same volume as the mids and highs.

I appreciate this video, as well as your previous ones. For Christmas a long time ago my parents got me a Sony home entertainment system (which incidentally had an 8-track player). The joy I felt receiving it, and subsequently buying LPs, was later matched by the shame I felt when I brought this turntable to college. College was my first exposure to audiophile snobbery.

Tbf this was more of a review of the stock AT cart that comes with the turntable itself. My mindset is that if it had a counterweight, antiskate, and a standard mount needle headshell, you got a great turntable. The sound relies way more in the quality of the needle/cartridge.
